Why so many? Do they break? I'm just about to pick up my new tv and hope it lasts fer a few years. Limited in my choice as it's a replacement for my worn out tv through insurance. means can only get from 1 store and they only have three 37" models. Can't fit bigger and don't want smaller also I hate motion blur and poor blacks.
Ok i have a 50 inch panasonic veirra plasma it is rated at 720p on the box but it can go to around 1080p apparently is that true? I also have been hesitant to play my 360 on it because of image retention/burn in should i be worried? My t.v has a game mode..is that ok to use for games?
if its a 720 i would think it would be able to upscale to 1080i but you need a 1080p tv to get it scaled to 1080p however 1080p tv's arnt actually running it pixel for pixel anyway bec you actually need 1200 pixels running down the screen for 1080 pixel for pix. and a game will be just the same as normal tv aslong as you dont leave the menu's on or somthing for extended amounts of time
These Panasonic sets have a 1080p processor even though they are only 720p, they can accept and display it, but it is only 720p on your screen.
As for 1080p, all you need is 1080 vertical lines of resolution thanks to the 1:1 dot mode that all current 1080p sets have, there are no comercial HDTVs that have a 1200p native resolution, there are PC monitors but a PC can actually output 1200 lines.
yeah well basicly its 1. taking the 1080p signal and converting it 2 1080i or its taking the 1080p signal and converting it 2 720p, also the 1200 pixel 1080 res, its hard 2 explain but its not that simple.. tv's dont have higher resolutions because the viewing distance covers up all fults and also they are making so much money from the 1080p gimick why bother spending money to make a better set when you can just market the lower res as better! its all money. btw nice panny
I don't know who told you that, but that is way off from the truth, a 1080p tv will run a 1080p signal in 1:1 dot mode. I've owned many 1080p HDTVs and all of them passed the 1:1 dot mode test patterns. (at least the LCDs did, the Plasma sets failed due to the Dither pattern that they use)
Go check out AVS forum, it is a science forum for HDTVs, you can learn anything you need to over there.
Really? Why? I mean I'm glad to hear that I won't be diminishing the clarity of the picture by getting a bigger TV but My Plasma is exactly 1080p (at 50") - is not even that enough?
if you look at it in the turms of res to size, it go's 1080 for 22" 1200 for 24" 1600 for 30" thats how it works mainly with monitors. with tv's you dont need a very sharp image and they can get away with alot more image problems like ghosting and noise.. mainly because with a tv you are ment 2 view it from a distance so this is coverd up and with a monitor you sit next to it so they cant cover this up. Also pendrag00n pc's can output past 1600 they just need 2 cables. and monitors run with hz
I have a panasonic PT52LCX66 lcd tv and I screwed up the picture settings and now all of the colors are off and the picture looks bad. Is there anyway to reset the picture settings to their factory defaults?
My Panasonic makes it too easy to reset the settings, there should be an option somewhere in the picture setting menu to restore the defaults. (unless you were tweaking the picture in the service menu, then you are probably out of luck)
can someone tell me what are the cons with gaming in a plasma instead of lcd? I really need to know becuase i can't yet decide which one I want. And yes I can control the lighting of the room but I do alot of gaming also. Help is appreciated!
Pros with plasma, higher motion resolution without the need for gimick motion tricks. Better shadow detail in general. Much cheaper per inch than comparable LCD units. A black screen will be evenly lit (LCD looks cloudy on a black screen)
Burn-in is a complete non issue these days and takes real abuse to cause (pause something for a week and leave it on screen and you might get some burn-in) so don't let that scare you away, and don't confuse image retention with burn-in.
This is the way i think: Plasmas r for watchibng movies, tv, and sports such as hockey, and are better in darker rooms.
LCDs, to me, are for gaming and brightly lit rooms. I'm going with a 42" Sony Bravia for my room this boxing day because my room is usually always bright and i'm either playing my ps3 and 360 (soon to also be a Wii), or im watching TV, i hardly ever watch movies tho.
You might want to avoid those 42 inch Sony models, they use Sharp LCD panels that aren't nearly as good as the panels in the 40 inch version. (which come from a Sony/Samsung joint venture)
Not very often, it apears rarely but it is there. The opening of Call of Duty 4's "Charlie Don't Surf" shows it the best of any scene I have found so far.
I lost this account due to the youtube google merge. This is my new profile. I now have a Sharp 70" LCD (732) for those interested.

Looks truly dreadful, then again uploading it in such low rez won't help.

It also doesn't help that this is over 3 years old at this point and I have owned many other HDTVs since.

I honestly think Halo 3 looks a bit like shit. Especially when compared to games like Assassin's Creed ...
