Why do Erniels and Retief Goosen have such especially relaxing swings? What do they do thats so special? I wish I could know their secret. I want to know how they do it more than anything. I means alot to me that I could swing like that.
Not as much forcing with the body as some of the other players. Very much a body-supporting-true-swinging-motion kinda thing. (Cf. Mickelson and Couples.)
it really looks like rose at address. but i am 100% sure that is sean o'hair's swing. if you told me to guess who it was before he drew the club back, i would say rose, but that swing is 100% for sure sean o'hair.
I hear ya I am a technical freak. My coach tells me to stop working on my swing and just try to get a good score.
All these players are diff from 9 to 3. Some take the club inside some take the club outside. Some start with hips some with shoulders. Some set wrist cock early some set up late.
@VJT34 Agreed, obviously. I was responding to someone complimenting Justin Rose's swing, but that comment seems to have been removed. They seemed to have him confused with Sean O'Hair.
@bigeddielad Johan Edfords is the first golfer, but thats not who i'm referring to. New look youtube muddles the comments around. I was replying to someone who was complimenting Justin Rose's swing.

loads of pros do that; Nicklaus, Palmer, Fuzzy Zoeller, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els has started to with his driver, Bernhard Langer and countless more.
It basically is because these guys have a shallower downswing than backswing. Therfore they really attack the ball from the inside and placing the ball on the heel allows them to swing like this.
Quite a few pros put the ball on the toe; Paul Mcginley, Zach Johnson to name but a few.
oh undoubtedly, tiger beats half of the players in the field before he even hits a shot just due to his presence these days. However Immelman has actually beaten him, whilst having him breathe down his neck on a back 9. Theferore that mental ability coupled with a solid swing, could create a future for a great player
Too bad Immelman hasn't won many tournaments in the beginning of his career. The start Tiger had was really a boost that propelled him right to the to at the start.
i'm sorry, but your just wrong about appelby. His swing looks mechanical, look to els, immelman and o hair for the most natural and therefore best swings. Also, on what grounds are you comparing him to norman? Are you reffering to those majors which appelby has won or his non existent time as world #1
Immelman's swing is no where near natural. He tows his right toes in at address and painfully limits all the lower body action in the backswing. Then he rotates his body with all that he's got in the downswing. That kind of action requires a lot of discipline and body restriction.
Agreed, but Sean O' Hair isn't in this video. The Golfers, in order, are:Johan Edfors, Justin Rose, Stewart Cink, Reteif Goosen, Angel Cabrera, Stuart Appleby, Henrik Stenson, Trevor Immelman, Vijay Singh, David Howell (I Think?), Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald, Ernie Els (3 Times), and Tiger Woods. Maybe you thought that Henrik Stenson was Sean but just check his backswing plane with other videos. It's not Sean O' Hair.
I agree Apples' swing doesn't have the rhythmic flow of Els', but hardly anybody's does. I also like Immelman's and O'Hair's. Reread and you'll see I was talking about technical rightness and on-plane position.
Re Appleby v. '93 Norman, I was talking about similarity in the mechanical rightness and distinctive compactness of their swings. Had zip to do with record. Again, reread. As for needing major wins to validate an admirable swing, how many do Immelman and O'Hair have, smart guy?
At no point did compare immelman or o hair to world number ones, i simply stated that both players have natural swings and both have huge potential. As for 'Mr Bluski' and 'moo690' watch the video more closely it is O Hair. If you still can't tell from his obvious swing differences to rose, then read the 'about this video section'. Also learn to spell, it's Retief.
"At no point did I compare...I simply stated that both players have natural swings..."
Not sure I agree with "natural" (although both are very good, very useful), but yeah--I agree with you, the whole point of the vid and most of the discussion had to do with the quality and features of the swings, not the competitive record of the player. Obviously there's way more that goes into a player's record than his swing. Tiger was killing people long before he had one of the best swings on tour.
Well said. Tiger is the greatest mind in golf, since Nicklaus. Top four ever: Jones, Hogan, Nicklaus, Tiger. I'm not sure Nelson doesn't belong in there somewhere. (I love Snead, but he was a freakish natural talent who had more of a money-match mentality; not saying he wasn't super-tough, but just not quite to the steely level of Hogan, Nicklaus, or Tiger.)
I'm just wondering...does that username mean you've seen Comfort and Joy, the Scottish film (Bill Forsyth)?
Well, you oughta, esp. if you like subtle humor rather than the constant Farrelly-style barrage. It's a damn funny film for anybody with an attention span. The protagonist is a Glasgow DJ whose on-air name is "Dickie Bird." He has a kleptomaniac girlfriend, the story involves Mafia turf wars over ice cream truck territory, etc. It all makes sense when you watch it. Comfort & Joy, by Bill Forsyth (not the other movie of the same title).
"their thought processes would be incomparable to ours as amateurs"--Maybe, but I don't know. I think you'd find comparisons where people don't expect it. Like, you don't question for one millisecond your ability to get in your car and drive it somewhere, even though the physical actions and mental calculations are complex, certainly more complex--and potentially more dangerous--than a golf tournament. I think Tiger has that every day when he tees it up.
Psychologists call it self-efficacy, and he has it in spades--a total belief in himself that he doesn't have to drum up or contort himself into for one second. It's an almost casual certainty in the level of your performance.
Agreed. Appleby is so technically good it hurts (look how perfectly on-plane, for starters, including the clubface). Don't know what happened to him after that great run early in the season a couple of years ago, but I'd love to see him get into that challenging-for-#1 class. His swing here (and when he was on that run) reminds me of Norman's best action during his great period as #1; I'm thinking particularly of that last round of the '93 Open. Just nutted every shot.
Also, i reckon the longest person there is prob, stenson els cabrera, or obviously tiger at the end, but there all massive, immelman is pure lush, shame he cant win something again
