Riders of Rohan are bravest guys in LOTR.In whole history there were no braver than Poles. We always fought against massive armies of dark evil from east Mogols-Russian and Turks. We always were outnumbered even 12 times and almost always won! (battle of Klushino 1610) Alexander the Great won being 5 times outnumbered only. Injured, captured soldiers russians tortured cutting off noses and ears, gouging out eyes, etc just like orks do. West europeans wars were games for boys scouts
rohan is based on anglo saxons, gondor on rome, the haradrim based on tribes of kiribati and of the aztecs, the easterlings are mongols/samurai/persian immortals, and the uruk-hai are based on spartans
400 polish winged hussars and armored cavalry in 1694 near village Hodów fought 6 hours vs.40,000 mongolian cavalry! 1 vs.100.Mongols couldnt defet polish cavalry and fled battlefield. Poles lost finally circa 40 KIA's men including commanding officer. All those brave men who survive were couple times injured. Poles have killed circa 2000-3000 of enemys, story like from LOTR.
Cinematic GOLD!!!!!!!!!! In bits crying here.......this is what makes epic movies, when tears are brought to eyes at powerful moments, not when something sad happens. This kind stuff puts an actual lump in your throat!!
I mean, Tolkien wouldnt be pleased seeing his story turning into this. No hard feelings to the movies. So much stuff has been left out. But I guess they did the best out of it. Splitting the story into ten parts a 3 hours, few would do that.. Sometimes I think of the possibility
@crushni Tolkien referred to Lord of the Rings as the "unfilmable triology", and taking that into consideration, I think Jackson did an incredible job. While certain details have been omitted, the general feel and theme has been captured to such an extent that I disagree with you, I think Tolkien would be quite pleased, particularly with the Rohirrim.
@CEShannVfB Yeah, I see your points. This omnipresent feeling of the movies, the feeling that you're a part of something epic. Although, people who knew Tolkien claimed that he would not like the movies. This was because Tolkien was a perfectionist, so leaving out alot of those sidestories wouldn't be successful. But as I stated before; They did the best out of it, and I understand that it would take too much effort and time to make the films complete. Anyways, I'm happy with the result
This video is great indeed and I read some ppl's comments asking why would a normal person dislike this video, well the responce can be with two ways : He's not normal or he haven't watched the film so the only thing he can see is some fantasy and a big bullshit with some strange creatures and people fighting with them :p Well,if I haven't watched the film I'd dislike it...Oh,wait,I'd watch the film or don't know :p but that's the reason,I'm sure in it
Look at the light-brown horse in 3:45 ^^ It just killed like 10 orcs for 2 seconds ^^ And yes, agreed this is the most exciting part of the film, the best one :]

@Gottmituns1610 Actually he means Saxons who conquer the British Isles. And Tolkien really besed Rohirrims on them. But I can understand you why you think about Rohirrims as Poles. Both cultures were very strongly conected with horses. And just compare Battle of Minas Tirith with Battle of Vienna.
@ImperialGuard9001 I dont know. Maybe. I dont really think any nation from Tolkiens literature is exact represtentation of some real country. He may take some elements from different nations and mix them together. And as Rohan may be similar to Poland or Hungary, Gondor may be similar to Holy Roman Empire in some way :)
@Kretek Gondor doesnt look very HRE to me. At all. Now if you go to Warhammer Empire is diretcly based on Holy Roman Empire. Altough thats true he still based many of his people and lore on actual mythologies and history and thank God he did so. But sometimes is hard to tell he did amazing job creating the legendarium but Numenor can sound like Atlantis.Eru Iluvitar like our God but his "angels" are so powerfull the Valar that look more like Paganistic European gods.Etc.
@ImperialGuard9001 Yes, I know about Empire in Warhammer. Kislev was based mainly on Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Russia. You dont see any similarities betwen Gondor and HRE, for me Gondor is mix of Byzanium and HRE. And what you mean by "our God". Its a little bit rude to assume that everyone believe in your god, or in any god whatsoever. Just saying.
@Kretek True enough... Yes "our god" is big assumption but the monotheist God is indeed the most worshiped by the tree main abramaic religions. And since Tolkien was Catholic and made his novels in way that would fit Christianity Mythos even if doesnt show all in your face but in "disguised" way.And makes perfect sense.Tolkien Legendarium is in our world strange enougth but many many years ago.We can still visit the West Lands where the Elves and Valars live a anglo saxon did so.
@Kretek I would say Gondor is based off on Greco-Roman world now this are two great civilizations that streched for thousand of years. So not only on Classical Greek and Roman Periods but Medieval period aswell that is Byzantium. But I think Gondor himself shows this since its on decline period like Byzantium in late era.But still protects and sherish the old ways. Also their foundation and history comes with terms with Greco-Roman world Numenor as Atlantis.
Ironical tough the ancestors of Dunedain were more Germanic than anything else the Edain. As the Germanic they were Migrants from the East(the mystical path from East goes to West and west being the most ligth mythical and divine spot I love that Tolkien took that and added to his legendarium)their learned from a more "advanced" "tecnology" civ that were the Elves and added that to their own culture likewise the Germanic with Romans.
So somehow the Dunedain are more Germanic "Romanized" "more Civilezed" is very interesiting to see how things work in Middle Earth that would make sense in our world. Rohirim could be compared with Goths and their paths with Late Roman Empire such Rohan and Gondor did.And their mortal enemies the Dunlendings are like Kelts expeled from their own lands by Saxons just like Rohirim expel them and take Rohan as their land. And indeed the Rohirim have based AS culture and Dunlendings a keltic.
You can see from their names language and culture. But those that strive north eventualy became the Breelanders and they look indeed Keltish but more Medieval and Urbanized but their behaviors strike smilitaries with Rural Britain and they contact Hobbits that are the most representation of that rural Britain with all his innocence.Finaly those that "stay" more "north" where Rohirim came and are kinsmen of them the Dalesman have language based on Norse!Simply amazing Tolkien.
@Gottmituns1610 HAHAHA You guys realy dont like Russians. I would disagree altough you can find heroism in many European Peoples and Poles are no different but Rohan being based on Poland I doubt it. They were more based in ancient peoples especealy the Goths(Germanic Cavalary People) and Tolkien favorites the Anglo Saxons you can notice this in all things of Rohan from armor weapons to culture and language. The Proto-Rohirim had Gothic names this one had Anglo Saxon names!
@ImperialGuard9001 Shire is England according to Tolkien own words , no doubt. Geographically Rohan is on the east, borders Mordor. Far awey from UK.Names? For example ruling stewards of Gondor such as Boromir sounds similar to polish Dobromir, Krzesimir etc. ROHATYNA is the spear of polish armored cavalry. And besides who heard about anglo-saxon cavalry at all ? I heard about archers, long bows and similar stuff.
@Gottmituns1610 well tolkien himself said he moddelled rohan after the germans of the past ;) actually, german riders were feared for their efficiency aswell and as clearly depicted in the movie, the rohirim are mostly blond / germanic in appearance and dwell in halls similar to those in north myths ... i think the poles relate more to the easterlings - for they live in the east, have similar armor, red standards and lanceriders
@wingolf22 Oh mate, Rohan riders were good ones, remember? German i guess were nazguls, black big horses like famous german cavalry black dragons or black reiters used. In Europe only Russians and Germans are always on bad side.Besides polish people are 55 % blond haired , germans only circa 20%.Poles use smaller arabian horses like Rohan.
@Gottmituns1610 uhm, im talking about germanic tribes, the ancestors of todays germany (and parts of polish population) btw, there is no good or bad side in reality ;) - tolkien didnt base the book on the ww like some think, he said so himself and he was a huge fan of the germans ... ;P
@wingolf22 But these tribes were not very brave. Poles won all the wars with Germany since10th century (1 vs.1) Rohirrims are brave and noble people. Just like Poles were. Always naive, always betrayed by the allies, always fighting for honour, always faithful to the oath.We saved Europe from Mongols,Turks, soviet russian scum (last time in 1919-21 war) We fought Mordor many, many times.
@Gottmituns1610 being german is practically the definition of being brave ... by the way, if poles won all wars - then why did the teutonic order expand german territory until far into the middle ages? germany brought christianity and culture to poland - one cant deny that.
and even if poles were all what u say (and i dont doubt there were a lot of brave man in ur history) tolkien as an anglo saxian was more drawn to germanic myths - because anglo saxians are germanic aswell ...
@wingolf22 The Teutonic Order was invited in 1226 to Poland. They received land and support from polish idiots. Polish rulers believed that teutons love Jesus, catholic church and all people. Naive (as usual) morons bought german PR.After Tannenberg 1410 victory (biggest medieval battle) poles couldnt destroy teutonic order for good becouse of opposition of the Pope. German PR and bribes worked again. Finally, Czechs christianized Poland
Not exactly. Tolkien's main contribution to linguistics was in the study of the Anglo Saxons. If you noticed, the armor, weapons, language, and culture of the Rohirrim is distinctly germanic. Where as the Poles developed from a predominately Slavonic culture. The Angles too were said to be great horse lords in the ancient scriptures. As for Mordor, it does not bear any resemblence to any culture, allegoricaly or symbolicly. Its more like Dante's Inferno.
@Bragithepoet Anglo-saxon era ended in 9-10 century.Which means they used short roman swords and chain mail armor. In LOTR movie rich Rohirrims have advanced 17th century plate armor. They almost have karacena armour (only richest poles used it in history). Those who wear chain mail have eastern look as polish armored cavalry, ROHAtyna (polish spear), polish round shields, short recurve bows! And when Anglo-Saxons defended civilisation, i have never heard?
@Bragithepoet Tolkien describes them as "squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes ... degraded and repulsive versions of the (to Europeans) least lovely Mongol-types".They are portrayed as miserable, crafty and vicious beings. Almost the same said US general Patton describing russians in 2ndWW.In movie they even have the same poleaxes as moscovian streltsy (riflemen) No doubts Russia is Mordor
@Gottmituns1610 I bet you get a lot of responses from butthurt people right now. Rohan is too awesome to be compared to any real-world country, people might get offended. I'm sure Tolkien got inspiration from Poland at some point though :)
They were given plate armor because it is a fantasy, not a direct history. In the books, if you've read them, it said that the Rohirrim were garbed in scale/cain mail. The Anglo Saxons of later history "Viking era lets say" forged their own weapons of a very distinct, Germanic craft. The movie reflects this if you'd notice.
no Idea if a question like this has been asked already! But do you guys think that the fact that makes this scene so powerful is down to the scene/words or the actual music?
I'm not sure what gives me goosebumps, the fact Rohan are riding to death or the violins haha
Just got done reading this chapter in the book and all though some parts were added and some left out and even where the speech took place and who said exactly what was obviously twisted around some FOR EFFECT. I still love this fucking scene and as I read the lines from the book I still finally had something, an image to compare it too. Thank you Peter Jackson and J.R.R. Tolkien!
A great scene. This sums up a common belief of most people a belief that aynthing good on this earth is worth fighting for that not even the fear of death can keep us from fighting for what we believe in!And despite our differences at the end we all want the same things and its that common belief that will always prevail over any evil on this earth. Rohan didn't have to come to Gondor's aid but they did!To fight for the common belief. This will always be the outcome whenever evil arises!
Peter Jackson said he wanted to make this scene similar to the French Charge at Waterloo in which the French army charged the British with 6,000 horses. I counted, there are only 5,876.
Does it detract from the beautiful manliness of this scene, the knowledge that a lot of (if not most of) the extras in the Rohan Army were actually ladies?
When you see the orcs starts to flee, I get chills man.

@Gottmituns1610 well tolkien himself said he moddelled rohan after the germans of the past ;) actually, german riders were feared for their efficiency aswell and as clearly depicted in the movie, the rohirim are mostly blond / germanic in appearance and dwell in halls similar to those in north myths ... i think the poles relate more to the easterlings - for they live in the east, have similar armor, red standards and lanceriders
wingolf22 3 days ago
@wingolf22 Oh mate, Rohan riders were good ones, remember? German i guess were nazguls, black big horses like famous german cavalry black dragons or black reiters used. In Europe only Russians and Germans are always on bad side.Besides polish people are 55 % blond haired , germans only circa 20%.Poles use smaller arabian horses like Rohan.
Gottmituns1610 3 days ago
@Gottmituns1610 uhm, im talking about germanic tribes, the ancestors of todays germany (and parts of polish population) btw, there is no good or bad side in reality ;) - tolkien didnt base the book on the ww like some think, he said so himself and he was a huge fan of the germans ... ;P
wingolf22 3 days ago
@wingolf22 But these tribes were not very brave. Poles won all the wars with Germany since10th century (1 vs.1) Rohirrims are brave and noble people. Just like Poles were. Always naive, always betrayed by the allies, always fighting for honour, always faithful to the oath.We saved Europe from Mongols,Turks, soviet russian scum (last time in 1919-21 war) We fought Mordor many, many times.
Gottmituns1610 2 days ago
@Gottmituns1610 being german is practically the definition of being brave ... by the way, if poles won all wars - then why did the teutonic order expand german territory until far into the middle ages? germany brought christianity and culture to poland - one cant deny that.
and even if poles were all what u say (and i dont doubt there were a lot of brave man in ur history) tolkien as an anglo saxian was more drawn to germanic myths - because anglo saxians are germanic aswell ...
wingolf22 2 days ago
@wingolf22 The Teutonic Order was invited in 1226 to Poland. They received land and support from polish idiots. Polish rulers believed that teutons love Jesus, catholic church and all people. Naive (as usual) morons bought german PR.After Tannenberg 1410 victory (biggest medieval battle) poles couldnt destroy teutonic order for good becouse of opposition of the Pope. German PR and bribes worked again. Finally, Czechs christianized Poland
Gottmituns1610 1 day ago
@Gottmituns1610
Bragithepoet 1 day ago
@Bragithepoet Anglo-saxon era ended in 9-10 century.Which means they used short roman swords and chain mail armor. In LOTR movie rich Rohirrims have advanced 17th century plate armor. They almost have karacena armour (only richest poles used it in history). Those who wear chain mail have eastern look as polish armored cavalry, ROHAtyna (polish spear), polish round shields, short recurve bows! And when Anglo-Saxons defended civilisation, i have never heard?
Gottmituns1610 17 hours ago
@Bragithepoet Tolkien describes them as "squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes ... degraded and repulsive versions of the (to Europeans) least lovely Mongol-types".They are portrayed as miserable, crafty and vicious beings. Almost the same said US general Patton describing russians in 2ndWW.In movie they even have the same poleaxes as moscovian streltsy (riflemen) No doubts Russia is Mordor
Gottmituns1610 17 hours ago
@Gottmituns1610 I bet you get a lot of responses from butthurt people right now. Rohan is too awesome to be compared to any real-world country, people might get offended. I'm sure Tolkien got inspiration from Poland at some point though :)
TrayeZ02 1 day ago
@TrayeZ02 Outstanding and too awesome are elves warriors, strange demonic are nazguls etc.But Rohan riders are ordinary, realistic guys.
Gottmituns1610 17 hours ago
@Gottmituns1610

Does it actually matter?
