New things in Reno since Oct. 2011 They opened up the V15 casino which use to be the fidgeraldz or whatever the name was, But it has the worlds larget rock climb you can pretty much rock climb the whole front of the building and let me tell you that is on tall casino. scary shit to do but mad respect for anyone who trys it. I so miss Reno! I live in North Carolina now and totally HATE it. The people in the south east are so rude if you are not from here, but it seems like they love the illegal Mexicans! I was laid-off from my job while a Mexican got to keep theirs! It was hell where I worked here in North Carolina, I needed to have a translator where I worked because I was the only one who spoke English! If I could, I would move back to Reno in a heartbeat!

I was in Reno last night and took off today, it is kinda empty but for bums and a few tourists. I'd go there for the cheap rooms.

I wish they would take all that money, and clean up the original part of town, the strip, the river area, even mid town where the Parklane Mall use to be (at one time around 2000 that use to be my favorite part of town - sad that a lot of it is gone, the rest is dirty.)

All the small hotels/motels that surrounded the Downtown Reno casinos that USED to be hopping have, for all intents, DIED.

Those that haven't closed or been turned into weekly/monthly residents are closed and their death is almost guaranteed as the Circus/SilverLegacy/Eldorado complex is offering such cheap rooms the surrounding hotels/motels CANNOT compete!

Downtown NEEDS to find an alternative to death by DYING casinos!

Downtown Reno IS in trouble!

Reno WAS doing well based on the CA gamblers... the advent of the Indian casinos in CA began the death of Downtown Reno.

The casinos on the west side of Virginia St. such as Sundowner and Flamingo (don't know how Sand's Regency is making it) have kicked it.

The Circus/SilverLegacy/Eldorado complex appear to be OK cause of the shopping complexes on the 2nd floors but, UNLESS SOMETHING CHANGES Harrahs IS a goner and it needs to be seen with Calneva.

I lived in Reno for 10 plus years. Left last summer. Sick of the snow. Colder than hell a good part of the time! Has the worst unemployment in the nation, and a huge homeless problem. Walk down Virginia street, with the druggies, drunks and destitute smelling PEE along your vacation stroll.

@bambang303378 Yes, the Peppermill! They have for the last 2 or 3 years been adding on and remodeling to make it what it is today, a Resort.

I just asked my friend to has lived in Reno her whole life thus far, and she said, "The Peppermill!" She also, just stayed there recently on an offer they received, and they loved it!!

I have stayed many many times at Harrah's, always been happy!

@barbaralaketahoe , the wife and I have only had one bad experiance at The Peppermill, when we booked in 4 months in advance, and they were doing some huge renovations. We got placed in a room very close to the construction, and the paint fumes were overwhelming, even to me! ( And I painted cars for 26 years in Carson City (Kustom Kreations for one place.)

ANyway, they upgraded us to a better oder free room at no extra charge, and the food in all there eateries was great.

Won $700, too!

I shot some video in the first stage of remodeling, but I never got that video up, and the last time I was there I was shocked at how much bigger the remodeling had gotten. Hopefully they are done with all that mess!!

Reno is pretty dead downtown when its no tourist season. In the summer when all of the big events (hot aug and rib cook off) are happening and it's not cold outside there are alot more people. Reno is a really fun place to live. We are very close to Cali and we have great outdoor activities....not just casinos. I loved living here!!

It depends on who you are talking to. Long timers are very devoted. If you are there just to live a party life, not so good, because you can get caught up in all the trappings. But if you are living a family life, and enjoy everything that the Sierras have to offer it can be wonderful! Carson City & Tahoe are close by, and are really beautiful!!

Im a student and living here is great, you can walk downtown and feel safe just by yourself, and the coolest thing is that everything is so close to each other and you still get a feeling of being in a big city!

I think Reno looks really nice, and the people (from experience) are nicer and more polite than elsewhere.
