The reason Asuka says "Anta" instead of "Anata" is because it is common among lovers in Japan to say "anata" when referring to one another. "Anta" is common among peers and friends.
dood, this anime is the way to go! quite honestly, this anime does not stick out AT ALL!!! but once you watch it and actually decide to try it, it will most likely rock you're world. i didn't want to watch it, but tried it anyway, and it's one of my top 8!
@azumanga ... Do I detect some Haruhi-ism here? Same personality (in a way) pony tail, authoritative voice... And there's even a Kyon to go with it =P
@Nairat that's kinda generalizing it. if one takes haruhi to be the tsundere type and acknowledge that both kyon and tomoyo are deadpan snarkers, you've (kinda) got, in some way, a takahashi couple. which covers a lot of pairings. i spend too much time on tv tropes, but i might not have this fully correct.
First Kyou says "Anta", which is a more casual and colloquial way of saying "anata". It's very much used among peers, it's what I used the most while I was staying in Japan, except for the occasional "Omae" when I wanted to tease/mock friends.
Anata is used among lovers, and is only used by the wife. However, it only has the connotation of "Dear" depending on the context as well. Remember, Japanese is a very high-context language.
Osaka most of my stay, but I also moved to Tokyo for a while. It's indeed a beautiful country, I'd definitively recommend visiting once if you get the chance!
@Slaushster whoa! that is sooo cool! yea wen i graduate from senior year of high school, then my family and i r going to china, but they might let me go to japan since japan is on the way to china! i am sooo excited!!
Tsundere is a term in jap to describe characters like kyou...

Just goes to show that the maturity of anime fans as for today is going down and if this comment gets poor ratings, you guys just prove my point.

For what I have seen, Kyou always uses Anta. Meanwhile, Sunohara depends on who he is talking to; usually he uses omae but sometimes he uses anta.

jusuchin85 2 years ago
Hey jusuchin85, I'm not sure if you know much about the anta, but have you also notice that Sunohara Youhei refer Kyou as anta in the episode?
It some like
Kyou: No one cares about your hand just catch it.
Youhei: Arn't you(anta) being harsh?
Argh maybe I reading to much into this, but isn't anta used only among lovers even if its unformal?
monticrystal 2 years ago
its not only use for lovers... anta means "you" so it could be said to anyone ur talking to but it a rude way to refer to someone
joriscel 2 years ago
@jusuchin85 was that actually Asuka's voice actress?
Avankiri 1 year ago
I find it stange she says anata baka towards Youhei. Because in Japan they hardly use the words you, me and I.
If they do use anata(in which many japanese say its the formal way) its always between lovers.
So if Kyou does call Sunohara anata baka, she bascily calling him his lover who is an idoit.... 0_0
Am I'm right?
Japanese is so hard to translate.

Well...
First Kyou says "Anta", which is a more casual and colloquial way of saying "anata". It's very much used among peers, it's what I used the most while I was staying in Japan, except for the occasional "Omae" when I wanted to tease/mock friends.

its not anata baka, anata baka would mean idiot darling or sumthing like that, just wouldnt make sense... she said anta baka, are you an idiot.
correct me if im wrong.
Just4440 2 years ago
"Anata" means "you" and is also used to address your spouse, similar to "darling".
"Anta" is a more informal version of "anata" but it only means "you".
So, you are half-right.
