I can't believe my parents allowed me to read this story when I was young!! VERY disturbing undertones at work... This story, and it's author, should be put away!
i used to read the book when i was little and it was a very old copy so it had a distinct old book smell
i still remember that smell, and i still associate it with milk. when i was little i was allergic to milk, and little kids have weird thought processes so my 4 year old brain assumed milk smelled like old books. i wonder where that book is.
Maurice is amazing :) I love his interview where he says people ask "Why didn't you do a Wild Things 2? Wild Things 1 was such a success!" he responds "Go to hell! Go to hell. I'm not a whore. I don't do those things."
Colbert turned my attention to this story. Maurice Sendak is totally insane... Would I share this story with my kids? A tough call... it's quite mystical though...
@enderandpeter Colbert turned my attention to this too! I also looked up Chicken soup with rice. I'd read that to my kids probably not this one til they're a bit older though. When I was 5 I found this book & showed it to my mom because I thought it was dirty for showing the boy naked & I was not aware of different private parts so it did bring up some interesting questions. Also I did bug my mom about having cake for breakfast for a while as well lol
is it just me or is this making a holocaust reference? like the chefs look like hitler, they put him in an oven, he looks quite jewish, and there were stars on his plane..
Just wondering is their supposed to be a connection to the holocaust since the Chef's look a little like hitler and put mickey in an oven? Just wondering
@daiomarisan Sorry, it's just that i've heard sendak himself say that it is supposed to be related to the holocaust. I understand they are supposed to be more oliver hardy like characters though.
Yeah, the face was modeled on Oliver Hardy; but the hitler mustaches and baking the kid in the oven is a reference to the holocaust; Sendak was the child of Jewish Immigrants and his father's entire extended family was murdered during WWII.
There was a big controversy when a school took this out of the library. Honestly, there is nothing sexual about it. It is just the body. there is this huge taboo against being nude that is simply not even rational. The video is perfectly fine.
My little sister came home from school today and said she watched some cartoon movie with a naked man, and it showed his "parts" And Apparently this is it...hmm...
Oh aren't we all feeling morally righteous today?. It's a friggin children's book alright, get over it. I found it quite enjoyable as a child as many others certainly did as well.
when people see something surreal and don't want to think about its meaning always point the drug factor.....that's not even irrelevant; the importance is the result. they call it LSD when it is just imagination which is lacking nowadays. Maurice Sendak is an amazing artist! something rare and "en peligro de extincion".
The three pedophile bakers tried to make a cake out of the boy, but he kept escaping, so they settled for the next best thing; they baked the cake with milk he swam naked in. Gotcha.
@daiomarisan Ohhhhh. YOU'RE a pedophile. This being apparently the only video you've commented on since you joined, not to mention those comments are about repressing the people who pointed out the nudity.
The character is around 3-4 years old. As a general rule, toddler nudity is considered more acceptable on TV than pre-pubescent/pubescent child nudity.
Thank you so much for putting this up. Can you believe this is book is banned in some places? I remember reading it when i was a child, and watching it now I love the innocence of it. Thank you :)
I loved this when I was a kid it holds memories also. But I realize this cartoon skit is a result of too much LSD lol. I didn't know what drugs were back then
my mates at school stumbled across this while looking up something and told me about so i decided to watch it a bit wierd and a bit surrieal but something a kid woukd like
THIS IS AWESOME!!!! BUT I GOT HERE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CLASSIC OF OUR CHILDHOOD... IT WAS A HALLOWEEN CARTOON THAT WOULD BE PLAYED IN SCHOOL ALONG WITH OTHERS ON HALLOWEEN... I THINK IT WAS ANIMATED FROM A BOOK...I THOUGHT IT WAS MAURICE SENDAK...MAYBE I WAS WRONG... IT WAS TWO LITTLE KIDS WITH THEIR GRANDFATHER WHO TELLS THEM A STORY OR SOMETHING ABOUT HALLOWEEN. A CARTOON. AGAIN, I THINK IT WAS MADE FROM A BOOK OR BOOKS OF A WELL KNOWN CHILDREN'S AUTHOR.
Man this brings back memories. I remember watching this VHS tape in my room as a kid, I don't know how many times. The tape also had "Chicken N Rice" "Where the Wild Things Are" and a couple more. Maybe "The 3 little piggies" I think.
@cordsman My young 3 year old cousin got a DVD for her birthday. With "Where the wild things are", "In the night kitchen", "Pierre", "Chicken Soup with rice", "Alligators all around", and "One was Johnny".
I bet everybody is asking what happened. Here’s my guess. 3 magical bakers at a hotel buy double the ingredients for the morning cake and then use the rest of the budget on a spell that would enlarge their kitchen and make it so only they can access it unless they bring someone else there. They accidently turn their milk bottle big too. With no more money they decide to use a spell to teleport some milk from the outside into the cake batter.
The spell backfires and transports a boy named Mickey staying at hotel into the batter after making him naked first. The bakers think that milk was put in the batter place it in the oven. Mickey pops out covered in cake, introduces himself, and then molds a plane out of magic dough. The bakers realize that Mickey can take their measuring cup and get the milk from the large bottle for them. They run over to him just when he flies off and yell milk for the morning cake.
Mickey then flies back and grabs the cup and then flies over the bottle. Knowing this is the only time he’ll get the chance, he dives to the bottom and skinny dips in the milk. He provides the happy bakers with the milk and they finish the cake. Before they leave, they cast a spell on Mickey that will take him back to his bed as well as clean him and clothe him. It takes a while for the spell to activate so Mickey decides to wait.
A moment before the spell activates Mickey stands up, puts the cup on his head and cries Cock a Doodle Doo. He then jumps off the bottle and the spell activates before he hits the ground and he goes back to sleep with a happy memory he'll never forget.
Is it possible for you to put up all of Maurice Sendak's childrens videos? I remember watching them, but because I don't remember titles or anything I can't search for them.
What tv program was this? I used to watch it but now I can't remember what it was
