haha i feel sorry for everyone who pays 60+ for a small ecosphere. i got mine for around $20. its not the real deal tho, it has a little rubber plug at the top, but otherwise it is exactly the same and i love it.
That's cool that you got one for less, but the "official" ones are sealed with no openings so that there's no chance that any external organisms or debris gets inside.
It's like... they live in their own contained world. Once alien invaders make their way into that "world", there's no telling what damage they may cause.
But no, there won't be any more animals that are visible to the naked eye. :(
But, if you notice this video is a few years old! That's a long time for these little dudes. In the wild, they'd have likely long since been swallowed up by the next larger animal.
If they all die then the bacteria consume the corpses and the algae consume the bacteria along with sunlight. When the algae dies the bacteria consume the algae... rinse and repeat forever.
I bought mine from Abundantearth (.com) for about US$80. I know it sounds like a lot for some shrimp; but when all the variables are considered, it is actually reasonable.
if you keep the right light balance and nutrient balance the eco sphere can remain functional for up to 20 years! The ones in the labs have lived that long.
i have one that my brother got me about 8 years ago...no lie, and There is still one little shrimp left in it, and has been for about 4 years.

So once all the shrimps have all died there's no more life in the ecosphere that is visible to see?
Erixxxxxx 3 years ago
Well sure there is: the algae! :D

What happens if they all die?
Erixxxxxx 3 years ago
If they all die then the bacteria consume the corpses and the algae consume the bacteria along with sunlight. When the algae dies the bacteria consume the algae... rinse and repeat forever.
That is the ubiquitous "circle of life". :)

BTW, only 1 remains alive :D

had my for three months and they died at a rate of about one a month emailed all companies involved and just got blanked 90 quid down the drain
tylervirgo 4 years ago
Hmmm only one of my 4 died, but that was very shorty after arriving. They are very particular little guys; and therefore, can die in a blink.
Mine, however, quickly "disposed" of the corpse and 3 are stil living happily in their "world".
Sorry for your loss. :(

Hey, you should show it in different angles and better focusing, it's very interesting.
eigio 4 years ago
The shripies are very small, and another angle doesn't show 'em. But, I should figure a way....
