That car in the parody was part of Chrysler's series of shoddily made "K-Cars." My father owned and regularly drove 2 of these in my life (These are true stories):

One (A 1989 Dodge Aries) caught fire in my front yard in 2 feet of snow in early 2004.

The other's (A 1987 Plymouth Reliant) cheap, cast steel camshaft snapped in 2 while he was driving it.

Truly, the Chrysler series of K-Cars were the "Plan 9 From Outer Space" of automobiles.
