Not the best version of this song, but it works. Do they get married? Let's just say pastry might get in the way. It's a brilliant song and not one to take on lightly, so well done to musicsinmyblood for doing it. I like the way you put singing/acting, because to me this song is as much about acting as singing - it's a true 'performance' songl And you have to completely inhabit the characters to be able to sing about killing and mincing people up for either revenge or profit!

Who would have guessed that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter have such good singing voices? That being said, I'm not entirely satisfied with Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal of Mrs. Lovett...I think she should have given the part a little more vivacity. Angela Lansbury...now *she* really made a wonderful Mrs. Lovett!

@jackXandXjill -- What's particularly interesting is the fact that if I'm not mistaken, both Sweeney Todd's and Mrs. Lovett's songs have been transposed to be slightly higher in pitch than the original score in order to accommodate the singers. The part of Sweeney Todd is actually written for a baritone or bass-baritone, but the man singing it sounds more like a tenor to me (compared to George Hearn, for example). Similarly Mrs. Lovett is written for either an alto or a mezzo.

JD and HBC may sound great here BUT they are only mouthing the words to the songs that they sung in a studio before they did the actual acting. The actual singing they did in the film was in a studio, where their voice was edited and cleaned. That is why they sound so good. When musicals are done on screen/film cleaning and editing voices in the studio happen for the actors when they sing, before they do any acting.
