Just saw AIC recently in Boston, Ma. Truly amazing. I knew Jerry would just crush live...and he did. William, was not only a great performer, but vocally on all the tunes...he just ruled...old and new tunes.. I've been a huge fan and follower of AIC, and Jerry's solo stuff...and this is AIC. Yah, Layne is missed, but William just crushes all the songs. He was amazing. It's nice to see Jerryy so happy on stage. He has always been a huge influence to me. Always will be. No JERRY no Chains!

Jerry also sung almost every single song to complete that distinct tone you recognize. Layne was the voice that screamed and carried their name into the ages, but Jerry was the mastermind behind the scenes. You still have three major elements to Alice in Chains, Sean, Mike, and Jerry. Did you have a problem with the dog album? That was mostly Jerry, Sean, and Mike.

Another reason the new album will suck: Jerry can't write a great song without Layne in the band; Layne was his muse and vice versa, although Layne could write kickass lyrics without Cantrell (Above 1995). I don't think any of Cantrell's solo songs are good, no great riffs, no supreme solos. And all the band members have changed so much now, they are not the same persons they were in the 90s. Final question: Would you still listen to Nirvana with Courtney Love, Grohl and Novoselic?

I think there's no point arguing about who was the heart and soul of AIC, because it is really the combination. I mean look at Mad Season, it's very good, but not the same thing as AIC. The same goes for Jerry and his solo stuff. Now the both of them together, that was the shit.The same goes for McCarteny and Lennon, the combination was the real thing, I think most bands are about the chemistry between members.

I was there that night! That place is a great place to see a show, Cains? is that the name of it? It was the unplugged concert and DuVall is pretty good, you can't replace a Layne Staley but this guy was really good IMO.

William, was not only a great performer, but vocally on all the tunes...he just ruled...old and new. I was blown away, seriously. I've been a huge fan and follower of AIC, and Jerry's solo stuff...and this is AIC. Yah, Layne is missed, but William just crushes all the songs. He was amazing. It's nice to see Jerryy so happy on stage. He has always been a huge influence to me. Always will be.

Jerry also sung almost every single song to complete that distinct tone you recognize. Layne was the voice that screamed and carried their name into the ages, but Jerry was the mastermind behind the scenes. You still have three major elements to Alice in Chains, Sean, Mike, and Jerry. I heard Jerry's song on the Twisted Willy comp before he put his first solo one out, I remember thinking, "if he puts out a solo album and it sounds this sincere, I hope the production values and the lyrics are NEW." Buying all the old albums by them is completely the right thing to do, but will you buy their new album? In all of their songs Layne sang at least a small part, but every song. Another reason the new album will suck: Jerry can't write a great song without Layne in the band; Layne was his muse and vice versa, although Layne could write kickass lyrics without Cantrell (Above 1995). I don't think any of Cantrell's solo songs are good, no great riffs, no supreme solos. And all the band members have changed so much now, they are not the same persons they were in the 90s. Final question: Would you still listen to Nirvana with Courtney Love, Grohl and Novoselic?

Maybe on the new stuff he'll do better. I'll buy the album but if it sucks I'm selling it back. I'm sure the music will be amazing, because the band's still there, but Will's voice is too weak and I just don't know how they're going to make it sound good.

i was actually at this show and i thought the lead singer was pretty damn good. he sounded like Layne and looked like Lenny nice combo it's all about Jerry anyhow long live Alice.

I think there's no point arguing about who was the heart and soul of AIC, because it is really the combination. I mean look at Mad Season, it's very good, but not the same thing as AIC. The same goes for Jerry and his solo stuff. Now the both of them together, that was the shit.The same goes for McCarteny and Lennon, the combination was the real thing, I think most bands are about the chemistry between members.

The music of alice in chains was and still is amazing. to match two magnificent voices harmonize together like layne and jerry. Unfortunately layne is now dead gone. Look at all of alice in chains accomlishments. they gained respect to so many people. I love there music and am influenced by layne jerry mike and the bass player can't remeber his name but anyway, theres no whos better than who. who wrote more songs, who cares. the org.AIC is dead. but the new alice in chains is beginning. first of all, without JERRY the world would have never known the name Layne Staley. OF COURSE he was the best because people like that will never, ever be again; only imitated. there will never be another Cobain, Hendrix, Lennon, Layne, etc... get over it people, they're DEAD. they were who they were and that is why the world loved them, but they will forever be etched in music history for a reason: NO ONE is like them. i am thankful for that although i am sad that they all are no more...

odviously layne was better. i saw them in concert in the summer though and they were incredible. AIC is my favorite band Layne was the heart and soul of the band but they are still insane. Gods of Grunge

The band got better and better as Jerry wrote less and less. Layne, Sean, and the Mikes had their fair share of writing, as well, and the band would not be the same without all four of them.
The band would not have been the same at all with a different singer, that's for sure.

Jerry, Sean, and Mike have every right to move on and continue as a band with Jerry or someone else on lead vocals. But they should do it under a different name and put AIC to rest along with Layne.

theyre not trying to bring a copy of Layne's voice. Jerry chose DuVall as a replacement not because he sounds like Layne but because he likes his voice. Its the skill that matters not whether you can live up to a martyr in music or not.
I mean think about it: if DuVall's only goal was to be as close-sounding to Layne, then he certainly wouldnt have been picked. Jerry isn't deaf!

I'm sorry but William Duvall only sounds remotely like Layne Staley and I'm being generous. Whats more, if you go listen to Duvall in HIS band, "Comes With the Fall", he sounds a lot different than when he's trying to imitate Layne. To me, he sounds generic and the comment about him sounding like a 9yr. old caroling is a lot more accurate than the comments about him sounding like Layne. Plus he's the clone of Anderson Varejao.

you need to see them live...then youll notice that duvall has a great voice and while he is and never will "layne" he is a good replacement. Layne is gone now...they have to move on like so many other bands have had to in the past

I was there that night! That place is a great place to see a show, Cains? is that the name of it? It was the unplugged concert and DuVall is pretty good, you can't replace a Layne Staley but this guy was really good IMO.

This new singer is ok I guess. I think Cantrell could have scouted around and got someone much closer sounding to Layne. You know what? If he didnt want to sound too close to Layne then shame on him! Layne IS ALICE IN CHAINS so get the best of the best to sound like the best of the best! I dont know why Cantrell settled for second best. Its definately not to honour Layne.

I respect your opinion however I must say I just saw them last night in Detroit and that new singer carries on the spirit of Layne and the show absolutely rocked..I've been to many concerts and very few rocked like this one..I seen AIC back in the day I am 37yrs old.Cantrell has to settle for second best Layne killed himself with drugs and the new singer was awesome!!!

It is very sad that Layne Staley died the way that he did, but Jerry wrote the majority of the songs on the album. Jerry was just as much of AIC as was Layne. To put down Jerry and the rest of the crew keeping the music alive for all of the "no telling how many fans" would be a insult to them. I'm not cutting you down inboxj, but I believe that they are just honoring what they have done since the beginning.

There is no Alice in chains without Layne Staley, Him and Jerry to me were the best singing combo ever!, If the remaining band wanted to keep going on together why not change their name?.
