@zikkled They're called 'manuals' and use different sets of stops for different sounds. Since pipes are either on or off, you can't play harder to make it louder like you can on a piano, so instead you need different manuals set to different registrations to achieve dynamic contrast.

I saw the blue violin and, knowing a good deal about violins, expected to immediately cringe from awfulness. But it actually doesn't sound too bad. Most electric violins that people buy sound absolutely hideous, but this one doesn't.

@Zoesstuff There's absolutely no effects on anything in this song. Just a little reverb. It's very very raw. The choruses are doubled, that's what you're hearing.

@moodah I almost never plug it in. If you do, put a mute on the bridge (the rubber kind, not the metal kind) and get a good preamp. I would shoot for the Fishman G2 or something similar and use short cables. The sound wouldn't be appropriate for studio stuff but live it works nicely if you EQ it well.

@MikeLombardoMusic yeah I've got a really nice acoustic (he goes by the name George) that I absolutely love. He's my baby and present for sticking with violin for 15+ years, but now I'm branching out and starting to do more jazz and rock as opposed to straight classical, and I'm definitely hunting for something that would work well on stages and the like. For studio and recording wise I've got a pretty nice set up to use with my acoustic that works really well.

And that may be a cheap drum set and the piano doesn't look like much, but that organ looks pretty incredible compared to the one I have to play every Sunday. Were you an organist first, or pianist first? Did you find it hard to switch to the other instrument? Or did you learn both at the same time?

@LaurelRavenclaw It's a Rodgers from the early 70's and they tell me it was well over $100K at the time. It can break windows, which is awesome. I've played piano since I was 2, and I just learned organ this year.

And, yes, that piano makes me sad. I have a Yamaha G2 in my living room though :)
