  • ...I went to this school :) and Mr.B was my music teacher haha IM SO PROUD!

  • Anyways the chorus is great congrats Mr.B and students!

  • I would have gone on stage and sing 'I want candy' with Johnny Depp, my hero playing the guitar, and PS22 chorus giving us some beat to 'wrap' up the show! Get it wrap up candy!

  • this is so beautiful to see children from different ethnics and backgrounds sing together in a very beautiful harmony and peace :') why can't we all learn from them? to love each other to make a beautiful harmony in the world..

this is simply amazing and it is very touching. i cried :"))))

  • To: alldownhill01: You sound very jaded. Considering all the comments I've seen about this performance, you're in a very small minority. Thank God! I think their voices are pure and they maintain their own individual personalities.Great blend of voices and probably the best performance of this great, academy-award-winning song. Even better than Judy Garland's version in the Wizard of Oz. It was the high point of the 2011 Oscars. Now alldownhill, why don't you go tear some wings off flies.

  • @CaptZephyr What are you upset about? Alldownhill01 didn't say anything to warrant that...

  • I LOVE THIS CHORUS!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Mr.B is too amazing. God Bless this group

I hope all of these kids dreams all come true. Keep on reaching for the stars all of you and you'll always have hope within you.... xo

  • It's amazing how inspiring children can be when they get a chance to express themselves through music. It's even harder to be that amazed with all the recent budget cuts for education. Keep going, kids. You guys are awesome.

  • Wow !!!! this song is like a breathe of fresh air to the world today. there are so many negatives events in life it's just great to see the children sing this song. It takes me all the way back to when ppl really seemed to enjoy life. We should listen to the children they are so transparent and real. BEAUTIFUL JOB GUYS <3<3

  • its funny watching this cause im 22. he was my music teacher when i was in ps 22. it was his first year teaching, man he is doing a great job....

  • What a wonderful example of love and hope. These kids show the entire world what can be done when we truly want to strive for it. BRAVO PS22 and MR. B!!

  • I was in that chorus 10 years ago... why couldn't waited a littttle bit longer to graduate? haha

  • The best moment of the night. They did an awesome job.

  • My cousin right in the center with the sparkled bow headband at 0:52.

  • @crabo897 well your cousin along with the kids were amazing last night

  • If anyone has any idea what a teacher does, this is it!!! Incredible!! This makes me cry 100 times over and over again.

  • Love the kids. Love the winners appearing together. Mixing the two -- a mess. I get the "aww" factor, but just an uncomfortable, awkward moment, just like so many others throughout the evening.

  • staten island pwns the other boroughs!!

    jk lol

  • A magical moment..

  • Absolutely fantastic, the kids, the song, the teacher...what an experience for them all!

  • This is a reason why the "Arts" are so important and NEEDED in our school systems across the country

  • Finally, something from Staten Island I can be proud of (other than guidos, of course...)

  • @1shadowfan guess u never heard of wu tang

Look as these children's faces. They are HAPPY, they are able to share the best of what we are!! Congratulations to PS22!! Way to go, way to go!

  • I had tears in my eyes when I watched them perform. What a great moment for these young children.

  • AWESOME JOB. I THINK THE KIDS DID A GREAT JOB. KEEP DREAMING

  • What a wonderful group of kids. Truly, one of the highlights of this year's Oscars.

  • Yes, the song is a classic and appropriate for this moment. Still I would have liked to see something that showed these kids full potential. They are awsome!!!!

  • @ 2:16 Anne Hathaway once again proves she is a "Woo Girl" LMAO

  • Love the Kids: Reminds me of Sister Act 2!

  • Well, I happen to think Over the Rainbow is one of the greatest songs of all time. You don't always have to be cool to be good. Awesome job PS22!

  • I love these kids. They sound great. What an experience. Reminds me when I was a kid and in the chorus. WOW!!!!! God bless them..

  • I love this kids. They sound great. What an experience. Reminds me when I was a kid and in the chorus. WOW!!!!! God bless them..

  • Kinda bummed they did Somewhere over the Rainbow, such a generic song... wish they'd have done something a little edgier and less kitchy/childish. That was their charm- they'd be jamming to Lady Gaga and Eminem! The Oscars infantilized them. Why bother flying them in from NYC, when a similar, less quirky choir coulda done the same from down the block? Though, this is a nice treat for them :)

  • @Sbeth85 very true, when i heard they were doing this song i was pretty bummed as well.

  • @Sbeth85 The song is appropriate for this . . . it's about having an imagination and dreaming big (which is exactly what the movies, directors, creators, writers and actors do). They use their imaginations . . . . just like kids! Keep dreaming big, kids!!!!!!

  • @jobhunt11 The song is fine, but is totally cliched, and you can tell it's not speaking to them at all. Watch the other vids. Maybe it's because they were nervous (big moment for them!!) but they're totally lacking their usual gusto.

I'm not a music expert, but there MUST be a song with comparable meaning that wasn't an oldie that they could have sung, that would have been more current and truly inspired them. This one is just too much before their time to have any meaning for them.

  • @Sbeth85 i totally agree with you..... well the whole show was ...boring....at least to me. they can do so much better songs ( i mean better from their expression and their feeling for music)

anyway... i hope those kids enjoyed the days in LA :)

  • @Sbeth85 This song inspires EVERYBODY! You will never find a song that is as remotely inspirational as over the rainbow! It may be cliched but it gives people a certain feeling inside them that not many songs do! It's a perfect song to sing at the oscars considering that it did win Best Original Song at the 1940 Academy Awards! And I think these kids did an amazing job! It's not easy singing in front of millions of people with some of hollywoods biggest stars in front and behind you!

  • @alldownhill01 I don't find Somewhere of the Rainbow inspirational- to me it's just tired. I think their rendition of Firework was inspirational and moving, check it out. They've performed w/ Matisyahu, Kylie Minogue, and many other celebrities- I don't know how star struck they were! Probably the unfamiliar territory and cheesy staging also got to them. Their whole schtick WAS the lack of stiff choreography. I feel like the organizers ruined it here. Little toy soldiers singing a cliched song.

  • @Sbeth85 I respect that. I just love that song soo much! It's my favorite! I see where you're coming from though. But can we at least agree that the song was part of a TRULY CLASSIC film that will never be forgotten and sung by the truly iconic legend Ms. Judy Garland who will also never be forgotten? I'll definitely check our their other performances, they're really good for 5th graders! Maybe they'll be there again someday!

  • @Sbeth85 that is y u stink these kids r amazing i know your jealous im in the chorus and im so happy i went

  • amazing is all that can be said!!!!! This teacher needs to be cloned and put in every school!

  • When I watched this on TV earlier, it just gave me goosebumps all over the place. But then when their director called the kids forward, & tonight's Oscar winners came out, I had tears in my eyes. I think that this year was the best Oscars ever.
