LOOOOOOL ok that slim a soup add shes just poured boiling water into the cup if you drank it as fast as she did you'd have 1st degree burns inside your mouth OUCH :S
The mid-80s advertising war between Banality and insanity. Pop ballads advertising chocolate and prancing housewives extolling diet whatevers struggle against inexplicable singing llamas, pointless CGI and a closing advert which flatly refuses to tell you what it's on about.
Grapjics like that (the swan add0 were as common as muck! at the time they were meant deliberately to give it a blocky feel and as i was 15 at the time i knew they were average and hardly atate of the art, they were merely modern at the time and people knew that!!one ad amongst many different cvariations on cgi ads...

Yes, the Swan advert is a spoof of the Dire Straits 1985 video, 'Money For Nothing'.

two old camels, Bob Saker and Clare Torry sang/spoke this one !

They got Clare Torry for the non-singing role? That's like hiring Yo-Yo Ma as a pianist.

1:14 That old woman looks like Richard Briers.
The Swan advert was a Dire Straits rip off.
That cup a soup advert was so camp.
That guy in the Dulux advert (not the Scottish one) was in I'm Still Alan Partridge.

'No mess I hope' Now thats an advertising classic!
Drinking slim a soup like that would burn your mouth off not to be attempted.
I really don't remember the Swan advert at all

Does the Kellogs advert suggest Snow White has seven kids... Hmmm. Wonder who the fathers are.
Also Swan advert is clear rip off of Dire Straights "MTV" video - even music is a mock-copy.... and no.. it looked rubbish then! :[

Im pretty sure the schoolgirl who stamps on the boys foot in the Easter Egg advert is Nicola Stapleton (Eastenders, Bad Girls)

I can't believe how blocky and angular the animation on the Swan ad is - but I bet people thought it was amazing and state-of-the-art at the time.

Thanks for putting this up.
The Swan ad looks like it borrows heavily from the dire straights video, Money for Nothing, even a similar guitar riff is played at the end.
I wouldn't trust that financial advisor on the advert, probably take your cash and run off to the Costa Del Sol, very shifty.
As for the Bank Dick. WTF?
superpacman1972 4 years ago
I was just about to say exactly the same thing about the Swan ad, but you beat me to it...
jonwilson 4 years ago
The Bank Dick is a famous film with WC Fields. Dick is an old word for a policeman or detective in America, so a bank dick is a bank guard.
Private Investigators used to be called "private dicks", believe it or not.

Even the CGI in Tron was better. And that was made 3 years before the ad.
I remember that Cup-a-soul ad with Christine Mckenna from Flambards...

Well done, agfa, it was, of course, the lovely Christine McKenna! Well spotted!
