I can't help it.... I just LOVE this song ( always have )...it is a great song, but nobody has done it any better than Janis . We miss you Janis... we loved you " back then "... and we still love you today .
@iiwatcher Perhaps she didn't mean "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" but the point I was making is that when the majority feel they have nothing left to lose then revolution, solution or not, is the outcome. But that may be a good thing since according to Thomas Jefferson without generational revolution crime and corruption will overcome.
Most of the time a person has to realize that death is right around the corner before anything can be done about it.Janis never knew what hit her,she never saw it coming.I saw it coming and was able to evade it with some help from good people.
Sounds AMAZING! Hey, Check out THE SUBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE. An amazing duo who wrote a song called Dead Peasant Uprising. CHECK THIS SONG OUT!!! This song has been taking Americans back to an inspired view of the working class and the 99%. Many have revered this as an anthem for the 99%. Google em'...treat yourself and enjoy!!!
Joplin was one ugly chick. BUT...there was something about her. A beauty that transcended her looks. That woman had soul. I know women, and I bet you dimes to dollars she was a damn good fuck. I would have hit it long and hard & treated her good. What a tragic figure--she only wanted to be loved. But her music lives on. And she does have love, always. We love you Janice! Rock on!
Mr Fangole .So wrong. I lived it. San Fran, NY, Joplin. All of it. The only reason it happened is due to the lack of parental direction, morals and structure. There was no leadership. Children could set there own direction but to where? Drugs and alchohol? Yeah and I did it all. There is a better way. I promise. I know. Jesus Christ, get to know him.
i never got this song untill now. not on the level she meant it. I was her boby mcgee. I never got married again. at least i can say that. damn, i'm a bitch.
For those of you who don't know or have been living in a cave, the reason Bobby left her was that he caught her making love to another woman in Salinas, California. Yep, Janice swung both ways. Seems that Janice didn't tell Bobby all of her deepest, darkest secrets. Opps!
Hello youtube, this is Jewels, I am new to youtube, but not to music. I just started my channel, and while I may be young, I admire this generation of music. I am a singer myself and I play the acoustic. If anyone here watching this video, would like to hear an unknown voice sing this song, please check me out. I wouldn't ask of anyone's time, if I believe it was being wasted. Nobody may even see this comment, then again they may, so I want to thank anybody who takes the time to view me. -Jewels
Port Arthur Texas...land of little country snob geeks who didn't realize the only person that'll ever come from that sorry place was Janis! Thanks for nothing!
My father was a huge fan of joplin's, often singing this song off key and out of tone. He died 6 days ago and we played this song at his funeral. "Freedoms just another word for nothin' left to loose" There's truth in those lyrics.
God forgive the motherfuckers from Janis Joplins childhood (& every moron in between ) who convinced her she was ughly Poor girl she allowed those imbeciles to define who she was She saw herself only thru their eyes ( the eyes of ignorant one dimensional rednecks ) HOW TRAGIC that Janis didnt realise she was always better than them .....from birth to death
@ZEITGEISTism if those people hadn't teased her like that she might not have been who she was...she always sang from the painful side of her soul...the part where she felt like no one understood who she was...if it hadn't been for them...we would not have had the beautiful music that she shared with us...that music came from pain...always remember that!!! Rip beautiful lady!!!
@pimpintrae Puppets can't see through their filters. She was magnificent, whole. Drugs irrelevant, consequence of wild ecstatic abandon of Life. Gave us all she had, though this wasn't her finest performance of this ballad, being somewhat of a self-imitation. Blessings on that lady. Much greater, quieter things are ahead for her in future lives...JUST as full. Blessings.
she was beautyiful and talented. A real artist. Like jim Morrison and Hendrix. We don't have that kind of artistry much these days....what a shame. But real art never dies. Gonna go home, smoke a joint and raise my glass for good old washioned peace, love and rock'n'roll!
I saw her perform in Chicago and I admired the drug lifestyle then.I've had a chance to live two lives in one lifetime since then, one life using and abusing and one life clean and sober. Not too many people get the chance I've had and I'm greatful.Ah!Those were exciting times back in the day,it's a miracle I survived. She didn't,life is fragile.
@winslynn I hear you I lived both too but I was born in the 60's , I was addicted to alot of stuff had the strength to quit cold turkey and lived and happy to be alive alot of my friends died using.
what a beautiful woman with such talent..to be consumed with excess of drugs, sex and too much rock! she lives on in her music but her early death was a loss to all.
Hey Janis, how are things in Rock 'n' Roll and Blues Heaven? You are the epitome of who our generation was, however the majority sold out. Those of us remaining either stayed the course in our attempt to recreate the past, or strayed down the path of drug and alcohol abuse! Makes me sick to think about all the wasted talent, vision and time, too bad there aren't do-overs available.
She was sooo HER! I loved her then and I love her now! She sure made an impact on women in the music world and showed us girls we can do whatever the hell we want to!!! Love you Janis!!!
Janis was only on this earth a short time... I am one who admired and appreciated her during that time. She was a talent way B/4 her time , and misunderstood. But once you hear that voice. and her story telling through song.....you were hooked........On Joplin.......KC
@lifebdrop1 I assume you were one of the free love, hippie era folks who eventually made sure that parents of today can not discipline their children... but no matter what you write, she screamed like a banshee for most of her songs... really did like the bacteria/culture comment, very clever
What a f*!%$ng awesome voice. Anyone who is so shallow that they comment about her looks needs to figure out why they listen to music. I see a beautiful woman with a talent I could only dream of, Janis you are one of the legends.
To live in a generation that was driven by peace and love. We saw the world change because of will, rock & roll, sex and drugs. The bond that was felt by an entire generation is reflected in this single song, a song that speaks of the souls and spirit of the people who struggled to understand the miseries of those times. My soul is touched every time I hear this, a feeling that sends a shiver down my spine to rattle my simple reality.
@MrFangole Haha it wasn't all that holy--Good times to be an upper class/upper middle class white who could do whatever the fuck you wanted. Now they're called business men and yuppies, lolz. You're romanticizing the shit out of those times and that generation, man. But I understand why...
You'all really think that Janis or Buddy or Johnny The Man Cash or any of the other people that God touched with His hand give a rat's ass whether or not we download these works of Americana? F no. John Denver and John Lennon are smokin weed and writin tunes as we speak, sayin Peace Brothers. Just Imagine
Why do worthless "celebrities" get to be mentioned on real music pages? What did they ever do to deserve it? Maybe if we all stopped writing their names everywhere and start spreading the big names instead, the world would get to listen to some real music.
Come on people, let's weed out Youtube and keep it clean :D
I'm 18 and I get told all the time that this song was before my time. Janis was before my time. The music revolution was before my time. FUCK YOU BRO. NOT MY FAULT IM STUCK IN THIS SOUL-LESS HABITUAL, JUDGMENTAL CENTURY. May you stay a timeless legend Janis <3
There will always be critics to everything. They try to hurt everyone else's joy in life. I personally don't care about what anyone else says about this song or about Janis, she was strong, and she faltered due to the burden of life. She helps me get through tough times, as she is a champion for people who know what it is like to be down and out. As long as I am alive, there will always be a Janis Joplin vinyl record in my house.
@ramonrobalino this song most certainly does not suck u fckn retard....."inbread pig"? god u must b the inbred pigfucker . janis is, was, and always will b the queen so hw abt u jst stick to fckn the farting pigs u no count motherfucker b/c u sure the fck dnt knw shit abt good music....BITCH!!!
of course it's kristofferson's song. you could say it's roger miller's song because he recorded it first. but everybody and their brother (or sister) recorded it including kristofferson himself. but what janis did was take a VERY country song and give it a huge blues/ soul feel that is the biggest reason i like the song. it make me think she could take the lamest, most boring song in the world and bring a tear to you eye with it.
@mamasaredneck you are so right, and your line 'she still lives within all who love her' is exactly true for me. I don't need to add any more to that-you summed it up very well! ☺
There will never be another Janice she was awesome and she still lives within all who love her :-) I love her music and her she had soul wen she sang she put all into it!!
@mpbsmithaa Wow. That says alot about your taste in music. Janis, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett have all shit more talent than Lady Ga Ga will ever have. I will lump her in with who I like.
@Cap285 My taste in music? It's incredibly wide and varied. In other words I'm an open-minded individual.
Unfortunately, however, the subject of talent has little or nothing to do with music taste. I can, for example, laude many death metal drummers for their incredible ability - even though most death metal sounds like shit to me.
Similarly, we should be able to acknowledge that - irregardless of our preferences - Lady Gaga displays pleasing vocal characteristics like vibrato and range.
@mpbsmithaa Yak, yakety, yak. She's still just the Madonna of the 21st century, uses shock value for publicity and is a douche. What you call 'pleasing' I call a screeching cat. And I'd sure as hell trade her and all those people I saw at that awards show two weeks ago to have Richard Wright back.

I lived in this revolution. We fought war. I believe the time has come again.
Now we need to fight greed, government corruption, and war.
I now understand what Jefferson meant about each generation should have a revolution.
Corruption and greed are just a couple of these battles.
Joplin was wrong that freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.
Revolution is the solution for the majority that have nothing left to lose.
As I thought then I do so now.

There will always be critics to everything. They try to hurt everyone else's joy in life. I personally don't care about what anyone else says about this song or about Janis, she was strong, and she faltered due to the burden of life. She helps me get through tough times, as she is a champion for people who know what it is like to be down and out. As long as I am alive, there will always be a Janis Joplin vinyl record in my house.

of course it's kristofferson's song. you could say it's roger miller's song because he recorded it first. but everybody and their brother (or sister) recorded it including kristofferson himself. but what janis did was take a VERY country song and give it a huge blues/ soul feel that is the biggest reason i like the song. it make me think she could take the lamest, most boring song in the world and bring a tear to you eye with it.

@mamasaredneck you are so right, and your line 'she still lives within all who love her' is exactly true for me. I don't need to add any more to that-you summed it up very well! ☺

We will trade you Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale for one Janis Joplin. We ask this in your name. Amen.
Respectfully yours, Cap

@Cap285 Don't lump Lady Gaga in with the rest of those. You may understandably dislike her style, but she actually has a whole lot of talent.
Which can't be said for the others.
mpbsmithaa 3 months ago
@mpbsmithaa Wow. That says alot about your taste in music. Janis, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett have all shit more talent than Lady Ga Ga will ever have. I will lump her in with who I like.
Cap285 3 months ago
@Cap285 My taste in music? It's incredibly wide and varied. In other words I'm an open-minded individual.
Unfortunately, however, the subject of talent has little or nothing to do with music taste. I can, for example, laude many death metal drummers for their incredible ability - even though most death metal sounds like shit to me.
Similarly, we should be able to acknowledge that - irregardless of our preferences - Lady Gaga displays pleasing vocal characteristics like vibrato and range.
mpbsmithaa 3 months ago
@mpbsmithaa Yak, yakety, yak. She's still just the Madonna of the 21st century, uses shock value for publicity and is a douche. What you call 'pleasing' I call a screeching cat. And I'd sure as hell trade her and all those people I saw at that awards show two weeks ago to have Richard Wright back.
Cap285 3 months ago
@Cap285 hell, i would trade the four of them for 1 more SONG like this (sung by Janis, written by Kris) credit where credit due
