I love this movie and I just decided to see if someone happen to post it so I can watch it for free. I can still sing the songs like it was yesterday. Thank you so much for posting. I will share it with my sister and our kids.
I saw this movie once years ago and was enchanted by it. I found it on youtube and was thrilled to finally have the chance to watch it again... Until i bitterly realised it was a musical travesty of that otherwise magical movie. If someone out there could load the good version, you'd make a virtual slave out of me and i would include you in my prayers for a month... at least.
I hope the person who said Sony is releasing a DVD of this movie is correct. I can hardly wait. What took them so long. And WHY do I still have to wait until Christmas??
This should be a remake on the big screen... I casted Nicolas Cage, Kevin Kline, James Marsden, Naomi Watts, Cameron Diaz, Jason Scott Lee, Ken Wantabe
I agree with flamethrower it is a great movie. Too bad its not being sold. I'm watching it at this very moment, and I'm loving the theme song! I too saw this when I was very young in the 70's, so I thank you for uploading this movie. I've never seen the 30's version. Is it any good?
i am looking for this movie for years .... especially this is one of the movie by olivia hussey ... my forever juliet .... thank you very much for posting ... but ...
You can get a region free wide screen dvd of it on ebay. I just received mine and it has scenes and songs that were not in the theatrical release.
That title song flying over the mountains is so strong for me it keeps the whole movie afloat until the echoing of it at the end when the hero disappears over the horizan.
Michael York wants to escape this place where you do not grow old... sounds familiar? 3 years later he plays in Logan's Run. But the reason people don't grow old is quite different.
thinking about what is happening to our planet earth now, with all the issues we are facing today as climate change and all sorts, it reminds me of this movie that I've watched when I was just a little kid. Can we ever find a "lost horizon" nowadays?
This movie brought back wonderful memories when i was seven years old. I saw it in Syosset, long island with my father and older brothers. I was mystified by the story and loved the message of hope and peace for humanity despite our self destructive nature. I knew Peter Finch would make it back to Shangri La and his journey still haunts me thrity five years later.
When oh when is Columbia going to get off it's a** and release this classic on DVD already? Caught it once on TV (during a period when I was quite ill at home as a child) and have never forgotten it.

I've read about this in several books on bad movies/box office bombs but haven't been able to find it on video so thanks for posting this so I can judge it for myself.
So good that you posted this version of Lost Horizon. When I was 10, I closed the theatre in a small northern Iowa town after seeing the 1937 version over and over that day. I walked home in the snow that night, not on the sidewalk, but on the snow piled high on the sides. I was making my return to Shangri La. I'm still looking for it, and now suspect each of us will find it deep inside ourselves. So many messages in that movie. Thanks again.
@georgeburns80 i totally grooved on this flick when i saw it in the 1970's. later i saw the 1930's version with ronald coleman. it's available for viewing also at google movies. which version is "best"? does it matter? you say it all "I was making my return to Shangri La.I'm still looking for it, and now suspect each of us will find it deep inside ourselves"
I am grateful that you posted this 1973 version of Lost Horizon. I saw the 1937 version when it first came out. I was ten years old. I sat through many showings & left the theatre at closing. I was living in northern Iowa & it was in the middle of the winter, so I walked through the night to get home, but not on the side walk, on the snow piled on each side. I was on my way back to Shangri La. I'm still searching for it & suspect that it is inside of each of us. There are so many messages here.
Please, someone remake this -- WITHOUT the music.

The film's director, Charles Jarrott, has just passed. Do you think they played 'World is a Circle' at his funeral just to be cruel?

They added singing.
Why the hell did they do that? Yuck!!! Singing!!! From the 70's!!!!!
They need to redo this WITHOUT SINGING!!!!!
Oh, BTW, the novel is great. I rec you all give it a read.

Does the main theme from this remind anyone else of Stravinsky's the rite of spring before it gets crazy? The Bassoon part?

Two years after the release of this film, these airport images would be played out in Saigon. It's a strangely familiar visual.
