Mormon Prophet Ezra Taft Benson should have been great friends with Kruschev. Both Benson and Kruschev forced large groups of people to follow them unquestioningly, blatantly disregarding reason and logic. Both of them sought to convert the world to their way of thinking. After all, Russia, China, Cuba, and most other communist countries freely chose to be communist. It is truly amazing how far away the LDS Church has strayed from the origins at the time of Joseph Smith Jr.,( Beck is a member and Benson I think was the Prophet). Smith received a "revelation" known as "The United Order of Enoch" that was an edict for all Mormons to pool all of their possessions and live a communalistic form of life, a form of socialism. This was not something they were supposed to try-out, it was a divine command. How phoney for Beck to be so appalled at this way of life.
Be mindful not to confuse the two. LDS "socialism" is quite different than the version Beck/Benson are condemning. For example, in the law of consecration (the official name) members were asked to voluntarily deed (consecrate) their property to the Church, and the church then would assign to each member a stewardship of that property. The members usually controlled completely the property delegated; his responsibilities were to manage the property and to generate an income from it.
Also, because the members were not faithful enough to live the law of consecration, the Lord instituted the Law of Tithing in it's stead; a law that has been enacted in the past. "It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by consecration, agreeable to his law, which he has given, that he may tithe his people..." (D&C 85:3) See also Malachi 3:8-18.

Ezra Taft Benson had a christian message one about peace and more importantly Jesus Christ. Kruschev's message was quite the opposite. You can't compare the two. Nobody is ever forced to join the LDS church however under a communistic government there is a lot of forcing going on. Again, these two are complete opposites.

The same criteria used to check McCain and Romneys eligibility, but SURPRISE SURPRISE THIS test was NOT applied to Obama AT ALL. Obamas has admitted his father was Kenyan, thus he cannot be a nbc, therefore is ineligible to be president of the US. As a qualification if 1 parent was a Citizen, they could confer citizenship, but his mother was too young to do this.

From what I have been able to discern, in my humble opinion, I believe there were differing levels of support for the Gospel plan....
1- Valiant souls who worked hard to persuade other's to choose/support it and Jesus Christ.
2-Those who believed, but did not necessarily engage actively in discussion, etc.
3- Those who did not embrace the plan fully, but could see the benefit of at least coming to earth to have a mortal body.
4- Those who supported Lucifer and were outright rebellious.

It is truly amazing how far away the LDS Church has strayed from the origins at the time of Joseph Smith Jr.,( Beck is a member and Benson I think was the Prophet). Smith received a "revelation" known as "The United Order of Enoch" that was an edict for all Mormons to pool all of their possessions and live a communalistic form of life, a form of socialism. This was not something they were supposed to try-out, it was a divine command. How phoney for Beck to be so appalled at this way of life.

Be mindful not to confuse the two. LDS "socialism" is quite different than the version Beck/Benson are condemning. For example, in the law of consecration (the official name) members were asked to voluntarily deed (consecrate) their property to the Church, and the church then would assign to each member a stewardship of that property. The members usually controlled completely the property delegated; his responsibilities were to manage the property and to generate an income from it.

Communism and democratic socialism are based upon Marxits tenets and fall under the social order called "Collectivism" My observation is that Leninists/Maoists/Communists immediate social change in the form or violent revolution whereas democratic/Fabian Socialists abohr violence and prefer subversive social reform, over time, as in America from 1913-now.

Collectivists believe that rights are granted by the state and so may be denied by the state (this to me is the defination of tyrrany) Individualists believe that rights are intrinsic to each individual to be PROTECTED by the state, as the state's proper function is surrogate to the people it governs.

Glenn Beck is nut job and so was Ezra Taft Benson. Their far right fear mongering is all they can offer. No real solutions for the middle class— only doom and gloom prophecies for those who wish to stop go back in time. But then I see this attitude common among many Mormons. Both Glenn Beck (the naive convert) and Ezra Taft Benson the reactionary LDS prophet (and John Birch society minion).
C'mon. Obama is not even in. Give him some time before passing judgement. At least Bush got that.

My comments were based on Glen Beck and ETBs record. I mean ETB thought the civil rights movement was a communist conspiracy. Really?? I know much of that was based on the racist doctrine of pre-1978 Mormonism but c'mon. These guys aren't rational— they deal in the currency of fear. Reactionary rhetoric only hinders progress.

Ezra Taft Benson called attention to the fact back in the days of the Civil Rights Movement that the Communist were using the movement to expand their propaganda. You can see this in the way liberals (really communist) are using the Civil Rights Movement to expand every one of their fringe ideas such as homosexual marriage and affirmative action (which is government telling private industry who they can and cannot hire, duh, that's communism)

8 years of George W. and look where we are. Bush's ideologies have screwed the US up in ways we haven't seen in a long time. Obama is no savior but I have a feeling he'll do far better than W.

Obama is already spending at a faster rate than Bush ever did. One year from now you'll be regretting Bush isn't still in office. The civil rights movement wasn't a communist plot, but it WAS the beginning of the end as far as political correctness is concerned, and yes--blacks WERE a cursed race, but aren't now.

I think blacks were held back but I don't know why. I am LDS, and I don't think blacks were less valiant premortally. Thinking that would go against basic LDS doctrines. Anybody alive on earth is here because he/she supported Jesus before being born.

Need to learn your doctrine better papabearbjf. I graduated from BYU and have taught Gospel Doctrine for some years.
Teachings of the prophets for about 100 years was that the blacks were less-valiant premortally. The church has never rescinded that teaching.
And in the pre-existence all that was required was *not* to have made a choice regarding the plan and you'd end up here. Only those who willfully rebelled went with Satan.

I've also taught Gospel Doctrine, but apparently I did it with the Spirit. There were no fence-sitters. That's been clearly taught since Joseph's time. There've been opinions expressed, but never doctrine promulgated that put blacks in unfavorable light, except that the Lord wouldn't permit them to hold the priesthood for some wise purpose only He knew/knows. Everyone made a choice, and that's church doctrine. By the way, there's nothing impressive about graduating from BYU.
