Just think about this saying: Freedom is a pretty word unless it's backed by force. To insure everyone is free, you have a system that prevents someone from taking over and hindering those freedoms. there's two ways for Peace, one; Peace by ignorance (it would be nice if this worked 10/10), and than forcing peace (this works 10/10, it just a question of how much time it'll take to accomplish it) Just something to think about, I would love it if your definition was realistic.

i don't think killing is necessary unless they themselves are killing, bean bags work fine, rubber bullets, salt shots.... i don't think going in now is pre-emptive. You would rather have the fight in your backyard or theirs? We can agree to disagree on whether its pre-emptive or not, but the fact is, when able to choose where the fight is fought, you won't ever choose your backyard to do it in. All we want is peace, and they want us dead.

i have to disagree with you. going in to get rid of a threat without any provocation is the very definition of pre-emptive war. i can understand wanting to avoid casualties at home and the need to want to protect oneself. but it's a very slippery slope and philosophically wrong. it'd be akin to being arrested for a crime you hadn't committed yet. mistakes are bound to happen and consequences could be horrible. i'm not saying there aren't exceptions but in general pre-emptive war is wrong.

No no you misread me, i don't think its pre-emptive strike, these terrorist have been working for years, the WTC were just the biggest and most open display they have done, so its not pre-emptive in my mind, i could be mistaking those other minor attacks from different terrorist, but i doubt it. I agree that a completely pre-emptive war is wrong, otherwise the world would always be at war, and that's just stupid.

ah i see. well terrorism is one of those iffy things when trying to do a pre-emptive strike. because the groups are made of people from different nationalities and different backgrounds it's hard to try and pin point a particular country or area to engage in a pre-emptive strike. but i agree if we do find them we should strike first.

oh they're definitely well funded. if not by governments by individuals with substantial wealth or influence with in it. i think if we have reasonable intelligence on the issue we should definitely demand these people be handed over and go through the proper channels ala UN. (joke as they are) but if that fails i'm not sure i wouldn't be against an operation to extradite those individuals to the US for trial.

I don't think that changing the tone of our wars is exactly changing the direction. If anything we have expanded the wars. I think Nobels are pointless and mean nothing anyway, but to give a prize that was for reducing standing armies and strategic attacks to someone who decided to bomb Pakistan - I was a liberal until I realized the democrats and the people who vote for them aren't serious about being anti-war.
