At the begining right after you open the blue door and kill the demon's go to the edge of where the stair's (don't hit the hidden switch to lower the stair's) start and look to your left or right toward's the sky and you'll see black under the mountain's.

I just also noticed how it even has kind of a quake 2 like feel, only its actually sprites, but quake 2 came out b4 this, maybe thsi game was built off that.

i think this game wasn't made for fun, rather to show pure evil. quake 2 was more like a scifi warfare without colors, very cool but still not as evil as D64. Doom 3 hadn't such a dark soundtrack like D64 but was still very cool.

I prefer Doom on playstation. That was the first doom i ever saw my Dad play when i was about 8. I like the sounds better so obviously i like the sounds in Doom 64. I've gotta say though i think this is a good game, but i think the graphics are a little too good and it doesn't really remind me of doom other than the music and sounds.

That's exactly what they intended to do. They referenced they were trying to "make it seem fresh". And you're right, this game scares me so much. Now I'm glad it won't emulate. The distorted baby crying makes it so scary, along with the background music and the way they assort things. This game is the harder core type...

Yeah, there was some serious creepiness in many of the original Doom 2 levels (especially 26-30 with that eerie as heck music), even in some of the original Doom levels. And PSX doom is creepy as all hell, especially the Mansion level.

But yeah, I see where you're getting at, the whole atmosphere of Doom64 is just engineered to be wickedly, jarringly creepy. That's the main trademark.

@burra007 Was it really underrated? It was easily my top 5 favourite games on N64, First probably being Goldeneye lol. Doom64 took the "creepiness" to a whole new level, Even Doom3 wasn't as creepy as Doom64 and the doom3 graphics at the time were incredible.

N64, PSX and 3DO are the best Doom Soundtracks. I also liked the Music in the SNES Version a lot.

I like the PC ported version "The Absolution." Reason being that you can actually look up as opposed to the game just aiming for you. That, and if you want to shoot an enemy thats right above you, you can't in the N64 version. Other than the whole look thing, this game still owns your soul.

Well, seeings as doom64 got it's sfx's and music from PSX doom, I would have to say the psx doom is still ten times better then d64 will ever be. But that's just my opinion.

The very first time when I played this game (I never played any doom games before) I shit my pants when I got the Gatling gun in level 2 (or 3, I don't remember) and all those purple demons came to you, then I went back to the lift and drove up with it and suddenly there stood a zombie right before me. I was damn scared.

I could not agree more with you! It has got to be the best doom there is. The music is more intense and the graphics are beautiful. It would be wicked if they re-made Ultimate doom, doom2 and final doom using the same graphics engine as doom 64. Also having the same music and lighting affects. But maybe add one or two more weapons to make it a little more interesting. ALSO thanks for posting the video mate!
