really good fight, but if you ever try to make it more realistic you should try and 'aim' so each others bodies more - with this you're just smashing swords together and it's not very exciting...
LOL! Yeah that is REALLY fake. All you need to do is pick up the speed. The faster you do something the more genuine it seems. I choreographed a fight for my school(having done sport fencing, kendo and medieval swordsmanship), and we basically took a 2 minute fight and sped it up to the point where we were clocked at 40 seconds. THATS how you make it look impressive. If you're going to remain stationary make sure your blades are flashing damn fast, otherwise people pick it for fake easy as.
Making it super fast is also the best way to get someone seriously hurt. Anyone who has actual fight director certification will tell you this. Actor's are not stunt men, so don't try to get them killed.
i agree, speed is impressive, but very dangerous. a fight can be just as impressive if the speed is moderate, the intensity is high, and the actors are 100% committed. my friends got an A on their stage combat final and theirs wasn't really fast at all, just intense and believable.
Although some people find this a great form of fencing, I have to admit that I would disagree with them. I am a sport fencer. There you may at least hit the other in order to win the game or just for the fun of it. It only looks and sounds impressive, yes it takes some practice but for me it remains too fake to appreciate it.
must've been watching cadet world finals Haha. Don't worry, it's much more fun in local tournaments. Accept open trounaments with old people, cause they just bounce around and run into people
good knapps in the combat. but just some more friendly advice, for next time... Remember "reaction sells the illusion." my stage combat professor says that at least a million times a lesson. lol... great job on the fencing. We just started learning it... Perries are fun.... lol
Just so everybody knows...this is stage combat fencing - and we are still learning. It's not supposed to be perfect, nor that realistic - just convincing enough to dazzle an audience from far away. Besides, our final showed more improvement. But we're just beginners dammit!!
Nice knaps. Friendly advice. . . get much lower in your stances. Helps maintain balance and control should something go wrong in the fight. Also, if you can increase some speed between moves it allows the "tag" or "point" of each move to be highlighted that much more. I'm an old SAFD guy so thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, but you guys really looked great. I'm sure you rocked the final.
