@bernudysbrasileiro very true bud! but the second best thing when your landlocked in a place where the average lake wave is no higher than a squirrels paw, is to watch surf vids. Its amazing how much the body learns subconsciously through watching repeptitive motions. But you are absolutely right :)
learn how to skate ,its easier, there are thousands of sharks, germs, and a lot of mean locals, surfing could kill you! you dont want to drown do you???
@toyomore drowning is for people who don't know how to swim beside shark don't attack surfer if they are not bothered beside local are not mean if your not a kook but the germ part their every where not just the ocean
@bernudysbrasileiro it can't be as easy as going to a beach and try surfing for the first time ever, i really wanna learn to surf but i look on here so i know what i'm supposed to do,its better than screwing up in front of a bunch of random ppl
listen up buds the best way to get great at surfing is to surf everything and not to be picky with waves or conditons...my dad told me when i was a little kid,if a surfer can get good at surfing shitty waves cause thats what comes most then when he surfs in good waves he will be awesome at it......if you would like an example of this look at all east coast pro surfers and how there better then west coast pros...
@krittee123 balancing is semi.... i have poor balance and ive been surfing all my life....placement is everything in surfing ...were you are on the wave were you are on the board.
It seems for me that i had a problem catching waves. all last summer i caught nothing and then i relized that the problem was that my feet were up in the air and not flat on the board. its all about balancing your weight so when the wave comes it can catch your weight and take you with it.
Can someone help me im having trouble turning. I paddle correctly towards the wave but when its ready to turn it takes me like 30 seconds and i get tipped over someone hel
@XxEzpezimen18xX haha i hope not because im 15 and i got my first surfboard yesterday, cant wait to give it a go next weekend, but iv been skating for 2 years now, hopefully that will give me a little head start in balance :D
@nativepimp08 definitely xD I went surfing for the first time like 2 weeks ago and there was just wave upon wave battering us when we were going out, but once your out there and you've caught one standing up just come naturally :]
I'm 6'4" and my uncle gave me a longboard as my first board. I've only attempted surfing a couple times so far and I suck ass. It's embarrassing to go out there with my friends and I find it really difficult when there are alot of surfers out. They become a big distraction because I worry about crashing into them.
@brokenbmx13f NOT REALLY! its totally different, i skate and well there really is a huge difference! but in terms of style building well it will get to u faster if u know some skate
Great encouragement for us all. I too would like to learn on a boogieboard first.
It feels safer and also is a lot quicker to turn like a little skate board. But much harder. (longer board easier to learn with, go smaller as you feel comfortable)
if your starting off just get a long board with a soft top like an 8'0 or bigger. when you see the wave forming start paddling. once you feel the wave take you, do a quick push up and balance. it's just repetition.
Pay out for a couple of one to one lessons. Expensive but far better than board schools or trying to teach yourself. After that just practice practice practice.
woah steady but everyone starts like that no one catches there first wave i help out at a surf school in the summers and hes tryying to stand up if thats his first time go him!
when i learned how to surf i was on an 8 foot board and i just paddled out to the line up and road down the lie on my 2nd try. You learn faster if you start that way.
it depends how tall you are, but a genreral rule is to start bigger and decrease the size as you get better (if thats what you want to do, I prefer longboarding) Starting with a 8-9' foamie is best, then progress to the same size hard board. I hope this helps!
I'm lucky to have the natural instinct... my first time surfing I was cruising across the face and riding on the outside. I see other people having lots of trouble and I can't relate with them. I've taught 3 friends how to surf on 8-foot foamies and they are all the same way- my friend has been twice and he can already noseride.
im a retard because of where i live. yeah that makes great sense, but i bet that i could out surfboard or snowboard you any day, ive been snowboarding since i was 5 and im 22 now, ive been surfing since i was 6.
i go snowboarding weekly to the indoor slopes around here. i have travled the world to surf and snowboard in the best places available.
