@CicconeYouth04 how is this disrespectful? they made a tribute to an artist they like. they are not mocking him or playing like shit. this is mars volta's version.
Love the original also, of course. But this version is simply awesome! It would be like translating the song into another core. Amazing! Totally Mars Volta, and yet, totally Nick Drake. Simply amazing.
@cutegirlkami96 Are you kidding me?? You must have only heard one guitar solo in your entire life then. That sucked, tbh. I love TMV, but most of their solos are pretty trash (Goliath, anyone? What the hell was that?). This is no exception.
Also, I agree with the notion down there that those sound effects behind Cedric's voice are awful and completely unnecessary :P
@RetinalHaemorrhage Well, you have a point. But I though the solo accompanied by the guitar in the background made it sound quite good. At least that's my point of veiw :3
Don't worry, I also believe the effects are pretty unnecessary.
@RetinalHaemorrhage it's not supossed to sound "nice" and "bluesy", if omar wanted he would just use pentatonic scales.. if you play guitar you would realize those nice sounding solos are actually easy to make.. i personally love alot of the solos omar makes.. but yeah there are a couple i don't like..
He just shows how he feels through the guitar, and it's kinda inapropiate in my taste to make a solo like someone as Gilmour would make in this song.. it would be just awkward..
@sebaba001 ....Yeah, but did I SAY any of that? Why are you telling me this? I do play the guitar, fyi. I know how it works. Save it for someone else.
And yes, some of Omar's solos are nice. He did some great stuff in De-Loused. But most of the stuff on Amp and Bedlam sound pretty bad. The one on this song is just "meh". Perhaps I overreacted. Ah well. I'm frankly surprised and pleased that they would do a cover of this song though.
@RetinalHaemorrhage The Amp solos are actually my favorite.. thing is, we both know omar is a good musician and he knows what he's doing, so liking or not liking it is a matter of taste, not something objective.. i personally do like most of them
I really don't know which version of the song is better. Of course Nick Drake wrote it, but this version stands shoulder to shoulder to the original in my book .
What an incredible cover; haven't listened to it in a year or so, and it's still as powerful as ever. I can see why Nick Drake fans might not be fans of it, but discovering it from a MV perspective, I think it surpasses the brilliant original.
its impossible to be better than the original, I know they didnt cover it to make it sound "better", but....no, I dont know how, but for me they just make it sound like a transition between two songs, more than a real song....I think noone even the best ones can match Nick Drakkes style as written before

q cancion ambas son increibles tanto la original como l cover de the mars volta pero las voces son distentas y le dan sentimientos y sensaciones distintas al escucharla, una cancion increible!! sin duda
singer songwriter Nick Drake, some of the most beautiful music you will ever hear. I recommend you check out his album Pink Moon if you liked this, it's simply wonderful.
i agree with the comment below. Ced's voice is fucking medicine. not even an instrument, medicine. it just makes me happy to hear artist i appreciate appreciating other artists.
They did different covers on different releases... ie. Australian, Japanese etc.
myspace /voltacommand
The covers are: sugarcubes (birthday), pink floyd (candy and a currant bun), nick drake (things behind the sun), the soft machines (memories), the circle jerks (back against the wall), and siouxsie and the banshees (pulled to bits)
Both the TMV cover and the actual song are both superb in their own way, the only difference is that Cedric's voice is more intelligible while Nick Drake's singing has more of a softer tone but it sounds like he mumbling the whole time...
suck my balls astralweeks9900. what the fuck do you know. Both versions are awesome in their own right. If you don't have anything nice to say shut the fuck up and dont listen to it

this is a really good version...
i love effects, but i wish MV would be just a bit more subtle sometimes, and leave a few holes here and there.

Basically, its the same guitar part (as Nick's), played in a more simplistic way, with vocals that sound much, much worse. C'mon...

@themarsvoltafan1215 Deloused in the Comatorium's cover (and all singles from it) were done by Storm Thorgerson, and so was Frances the Mute's.
Amputechture, The Bedlam In Goliath, and Octahedron's covers are all Jeff Jordan paintings.
