What the Sri Lankan government done to Tamils has to be the biggest terrorist and should be called as State Terrorism. Sri Lankan government took their power and misused them. Sri Lankan Government controls the media in Sri Lanka and used that as an advantage to spread their propaganda.
As a Singhalese ethnic (the majority) and foreign government should try to distinguish between the causes (Sri Lankan war on Tamils) and effects (Tamils people struggle against the war).
Sri Lankan government like to have people believe this war against terrorism and would like to portray as Buddhist versus extremist but in reality the Buddhism is more scared religion are being tarnished by the group of people who claim to be Buddhist. The group of people are controlling the government behind the screen under the racist believe the whole Sri Lanka belongs to Buddhist not other minorities.
They consider Tamil who are Christian, Hindu, and Muslims as invaders that such should be chased out. According to the influential section of Sri Lankan Buddhist monks when Buddha died they believe the Buddha gave the whole Sri Lanka to the Singhalese Buddhist, and thus should be protect at all cause. They have been constantly demanding War against the Tamils and have even shot and killed former president husbands/father supporting the peace talk with the freedom fighter ( Tamil Tiger).
To begin with, there may be disagreement about exactly what is genocide but I believe many may agree that genocide involves some 'systematic' killings of one particular group or/attempts to achieve this.
1. First of all, the Tamils of Sri Lanka have been claiming there is genocide going on in Sri Lanka, against the Tamils, not recently but over the last 30 years or so. However, our conflict and the systematic killings against the Tamils by the repressive Sri Lankan government have been largely shielded from the outside world thanks to the extreme media blackout by the SL.
Not only do the vast majority of the Sinhalese outisde North East (where Tamils are majority) not have any clue about what is happening, but they have been constantly fed Sri Lankan gov't propaganda. The foreigners also get fed mostly the Sri Lankan gov't produced news since they have difficulty verifying and travelling to the actual conflict zone
2. There has been blockade of essential medical and food supplies including things such as penedol, torch batteries, polythene tarps, even baby milk powder, and again not just recently but throughout the conflict period. For Tamils, this has both long term and short term impacts. Long term being children not forming to thier full mental and physical capacity which would result in less and less adept people while in the short term they can simply die.
Of course, the SL gov't argues this is necessary to prevent Tigers from using them but this argument does not fare well if the gov't is genuinely concerned about Tamil civlians because this type of supply restriction always affects the civilian population more than Tigers (Tigers have thier own sea supply routes).
3. Restriction does not just go for goods but it also takes other forms such as restricting fishing activiities and agricultural activities by denying Tamils thier own lands. Again, the reasons given by this is that to limit Tigers presence in areas but as usual this only affects the civilians more than it limits the Tigers. The ulterior motive is denying Tamils thier own land and reducing them to margins to insignificant in numbers in the long term.
4. There have been laws created by the SL gov't that has had and continues to have detrimental effects on Tamils alone. For example, the Standardization of education, the removal and failure to implement properly the official language status for Tamil, to name just a few.
5. If you are a Tamil in Sri Lanka, you can be arrested without given due reason and held in detention without trial as long as SL authorities like to (thanks to the Emergency Regulations Act) and you would be lucky if one gets this treatment only. Nowdays, the Tamils are randomly arrested only to be found dumped by wayside. 'White van' roams through streets of Colombo engaging in abduction at will.
6. The Tamils' lands have been systematically colonized particularly in the Eastern parts like Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Ampara, where 30 years ago, the birth and death rates of both races were pretty much equal and the Tamils were majority (above 80 %). However, now, they have been reduced to 50% thanks to forced evictions, bombardments, and settelements of Sinhalese by the SL gov't.
7. Even Tamil areas' names have been systematically changed into Sinhala names. Many areas in the East have gone name changes once the Sinhalese army has taken control of them (for example, Manal Aaru in Tamil has been changed to Weli Oya in Sinahalese). It is beginning to happen Jaffna where army's writ has been running for a while.

It was said that the govenment of Sri Lanka agreed a ceasefire agreement and hence the A9 highway was opened which was under LTTE control in 2002 and then the SL gov violoated the agreement and captured the A9 highway for the first time since 1984.

...and my dear xoxoXAngieXoxox, they didnt come to this country to "ESCAPE" the war
becoz of the war and the false propaganda spread by the terrorists and pro-terrorist groups, they got this opportunity to get "refugee status" in countries like Canada, US, UK & Aus.
So, thanks to war in SL they can stay here as "refugees"
But now that SLArmy is liberating the civillians from terrorists, & when the war is over... I wonder what will happen to that refugee status they got.

If Canada dont take action against these terrorists who r staying on "refugee" status, with time to come, things will become worse for Canada.
Until NY 9/11 terrorism was someone elses problem; but now its proved that all terrorist organizations are linked to gether.
So, whether its AlQaeda or LTTE, terrorism is terrorism.
Coz today, its someone elses problem; but tomorrow it'll be your problem.

Right now the LTTE r holding civillians as hostages to save their own asses
The civillians kids died fighting for some silly eelam dream, their lives were ruined & dreams were shattered by ltte

These children do not value or respect their own lives or that of others. This video is pure unadulterad propaganda promoted by those who would benefit by chaos & unrest. Because people come2this country2ESCAPE the war. But if u come here & start ur war here by burning flags which DOES mean something2people, then Canada will only send u back. They do NOT need u 2bring the war from sri lanka here. It's different 2protest &2actually start a second small war between the tamils & the singhalese. U don't need more blood 2be spilled here 2, there's enough in sri lanka. Set ur protesting priorities straight or else ur going2escelate ur problem which I'm sure may happen

Dear fuck2slarmy, if the Canadians are giving arms to Sri Lanka to kill your people then shouldn't you leave Canada? They might even harm you if you stay there. I think the best country is tamil nadu where you will certainly be safe. Also please present your evidence when you are accusing someone.

I'm not sri lankan what so ever. But we live in Canada for a reason, the reason is to not bring war from other countries here. This was meant to be a peaceful place and if you think a flag is just fabric and it's ok to burn, then lets turn the tables on you. I don't agree with what's happening to Tamils in Sri Lanka but there are other ways to protest. DO NOT start your fight here go to Sri Lanka and continue the fight there, Canada has nothing to do with this. People come here for peace.
