Manufacturing sucks,I had been laid off every time I asked for raise.I know mill, lathe ,programing, setup,Mastercam, SolidworksAutocad,But in 2008 that didnt save my ass.Thatsw hy I am graduating from college now.NO BS machine Shop. There is no pride in Suck shops
Dear The Geek Group. I love the passion and enthusiasm you guys have for CAD - CAM manufacturing. Computer Numerical Control is the way of the future and it’s an ideology I fully support. I will show your video to my class and I look forward to your future posts. Keep up the great work. Aaron (Australia).
The problem is the misconception that anyone can run a CNC. I'm a certified Tool and Die Maker/CNC Programmer and with out some good knowledge on manual equipment you won't be a good CNC machinist. I teach manual machining at a community college and that course is part of the CNC course. Learning to make a part on a manual first is a must in my book to learn the concept and feel of things before programming and setting up a CNC.
monkeykid... yes it's possible but drill presses are not meant to support sideways preassure... it would only work in small detail cutting or in locating holes...
I have a old 9" South Bend lathe in my shop and I would be buggered without it!
I was an operator/trainee on Okuma NC machine centers for several years and it amazed me that somthing from the 1980's could spit out perfectly turned parts so quickly, not to mention they only cost a few grand to buy and set up!
Keep up the good work!, I look forward to the CNC lessons because I too will be buying one in the future, just for making widgets :D
when you upload a HD video to youtube, it's avail nearly instantly, but the rendering isn't quite on par right away, watch it again and you'll see the difference. It's a great quality and high end content video!
The general rule of thumb when you are buying a machine from Haas is that you never buy a large one from them unless it's a lathe or a gantry router.

We need 100,000 of these machines to even think about competing with China.
Renewable energy wouldn't hurt either.

@SIXSTRING63 Boy! How I second your comment! The "Art" of any machining is in the training and experience of the operator!
But, I've got this idea . . .(Smile)!

is it possible to turn a old drill press into a small cnc machine? it doesnt have to be pneumatic, maybe using small wheels to manually turn it?
