  • I'd like to hunt down the five douchebags that disliked this and stomp them....

  • What year was this? Billy Joe always puts on a show. An original outlaw.

  • @john9944 According to the tape I have it's from October of 1979....Eddy would have been 17 here.

  • eddy at his best

  • This is a great song and Byron McKedy's cover of it is amazing.

  • This is a great song....

    Thanks for putting it on.,

  • There is no one like Eddy in this world.. Have seen many guitar players try... and miserably fail! Was able to see him play once... WILL NEVER forget it!

  • Thanks for posting this. Great song.

  • Thats the way its done

  • You know while Hollywood is in the Country Music stage, wouldnt a movie about Billy Joe be something. I would love to see it. I wonder if anyone has purchased the movie rights to his book?? Would love to see that movie.

  • @fmlytracer Jeff Bridges' character in Crazy Heart was partially based on Billie Joe Shaver.

  • Am I the last person on earth to notice the resemblance between a younger Billy Joe Shaver and a current Jeff Bridges?

  • eddy...i wish i could have him played in person..i love is riffs

  • @gwhite1969 Man I wish I could have seen him too. As an " I'm gonna be a player someday" there is absolutely no one's playing I admire more than his! What a loss.... My prayers go out to Billy.

  • PURE TEXAS!!!

  • Yes his tone is perfect unreal and we will never hear a country song like this ever again.

  • I damned LOVE how Billy throws his fingers up like he's finger-banging the Black Rose.

  • Please, can you send to my mail anpouch@seznam.cz song

I'm just an old chunk of coal from the same album?

If you want to send some song from me (and if I got

this song), type something. Thank you very much, František Dobrota.

  • Eddy was my first and greatest influence to become a lead guitar player!! He was the coolest of the cool!! When people ask who I try to play like, I just smile and think of seeing Eddy on Austin City Limits when I was just starting to play!!

  • @mattygeetarross Hey MAttygtrr you are a deffinately influenced by Eddie. See you at Goeheenville -- My Friend

  • @jpmoore64

Thanks Joe!! I'll take that Buddy!!

  • "Lord put a handle on a simple-headed man, help me leave that Black Rose alone."

  • R.I.P. EDDY,Best Of Luck Billy Joe,with the Court case,...Love All Your Guts!

  • BAD-ASS.

  • never could understand why more fame seemed to elude him

  • add to: Facebook: Elect Billy Joe Shaver to the Country Music Hall of Fame

  • Any guy who writes, sings and plays like that - and dresses like a lineman is ok in my book. I'd like to see him put Keith Urban in a headlock (just for fun)

  • @jazzredneck id pay good money to that!!!!!!!!!

  • Billy Joe Shaver is my favorite country singer

  • good stuff here. check out Billy Joe singing "If You don't Love Jesus Go to Hell" on my channel.

  • If you haven't see a show lately ... do, he really put on a show.

  • i was privileged enough in my life to be able to spend time with billy and his family. and i wish i was able to thank them for all there kindness. but i have lost all ties to there family through death. i never even knew how lucky i was!!!

  • @BJShaverman....I love the little tidbit of info...I did not know he was going to be a part of a great lineup like the "Outlaws"....wow good lookin out!

  • wow he would be great fit as one of the highway men

  • @kfc63822

The story goes that Billy was to be on the "OUTLAWS" album with Waylon, Jessie & Willie, but his wife Brenda laid the law down. She thought he'd got a wild enough reputation already without being labelled an outlaw. Happy new year to all readers.

  • i saw billy jo in rossburn manitoba, sweet.

  • wow, so young. love ya billy joe!

  • what year was this recorded? late 80's early 90's?

  • I saw Billy Joe at Eddies Attic the other night, he was awesome. His opening act, Ken Will Morton, was incredible too. Great show!

  • you are the man!

Im sorry I just got you in my ear....please stay there!

  • Kick ass song here

  • Billy/Eddy kick ass.

    RIP ED

  • Billy Joe Shaver is a king all in his own way

  • It's cool to see Eddy here and see the progression to the Unshaven record...MONSTER tone... his hybrid lead/rhythm playing is unmatched. If Nashville was in Texas, it would sound like Eddy. The most seamless musical blend of country, blues, and rock playing I've ever heard. Awesome.

  • @cridermusic, his ol' Daddy sure looked happy to be there with Eddy. I agree with you 100%, excellent comment.

  • This guy is the voice of the Squidbillies?

  • He did the theme song for it, yes.

  • Just the theme song. Unknown Henson Voices Early.

  • Damn. I just figured out what the Black Rose is. What a visual at the 39 second mark. kinda gross....

  • what is black rose?

  • varmitrifle - the song's about an inter-racial relationship

  • u said it nicer than i would've ,

  • Nothing gross about a black rose. I like Black, White, Yellow, Red, if you only like one color rose then you are probably racist and gay.

  • Eddy is one of the main reasons I play guitar today! Got my '74 strat when I was 11 after seeing him on Austin City Limits!! Awesome!!

Similar tone to Steve Gaines! Rock On Eddy!

  • Eddy's tone was a little like Jerry Garcia's. Anyone else get that vibe?

  • No comparison. Jerry had the fame, Eddie had the chops. Get Shaver Live at Smith's Old Bar, and you'll here stuff that Garcia couldn't even dream about playing.

  • Lets not get carried away...Billy is great, no doubt but no Jerry Garcia. Jerry got old & tired but in the 70's those 30 minute solos are unmatchable. Eyes Of The World, Shakedown Street, Dark Star = real magic.

  • Yes it's a great clean tone but not thin. CLassic.

  • Eddy was the best country guitarist out there....and Bill Joe is a true country legend and legend. God Bless them both...

  • He's a deadly rhythm player too. Fingers (no pick) give me that sweet tone.

  • when I seen this guy play...all I remember it was billy joe shaver on austin city lights and the guitarist was hitting notes that rivaled anyone..20 plus years ago

WHATS HIS NAME? EDDIE _? what happened to him?

  • Eddie Shaver. See BJS video--Song For Eddie..

  • eddy was real young here, his playing PROGRESSED so much he was un touchable. THE BEST!!

  • We need some more beer up here.....Don't throw it Don't throw it!!

  • Eddy is the FUCKIN' BEST guitarist Ive ever heard in my life!

  • Amazing. Just got into Billie Joe Shaver this year. Thanks for posting this.

  • great to see one of my favorite country singers and writers.been listening to him since his first demo album

  • Silver wings of time by Billy Joe Shaver. Can anyone post this soong, would really appreciate. xaver

  • Eddy was the greatest. If anybody else has additional Eddy footage please bring it to YouTube.

  • Great clip. Eddy was such a tasty, restrained guitar picker, especially for that age. He is missed.

  • That is a very young Eddy. What a great talent. It is a shame he is not with us any more. R.I.P.

  • Is that Eddy playing lead?

  • Billy Joe is like the Energizer Bunny! He's a living legend who keeps going and going and going. God bless him -- he's a great one.

  • What a great sound he had. Straight playing ,and no phony tricks with pedals. ' Ya might want to see my "Shaver" portrait guitar on my site...... Jimmybusk dot com . 'Miss ya Eddy.,Never get tired of that live record from Smiths bar !

  • We really enjoyed your video of Billy Joe Shaver! Check out our Billy Joe Shaver videos out when you get a chance!

  • "A rose, by any other name, is yet a rose"...someone famous said that...was it shakespear????

    Great song and video!!

  • If Billy Joe shot a dude, then that dude needed shooting! Don't fuck with Billy Joe!

  • Amen, brother!

  • Nope, I wouldn't want to make Billy Joe mad.

    He's one fine man though.

    sasha

  • The Original Outlaw country singer, Rock-On Billy Joe!!

  • Wow he rocks!! I love Billie Joe. Post more please. I would love to see a "Try and Try AGain" video.

  • That's really , really good ! ... Thank you !!!

  • BJS is always great. Thanks for these lovely contributions.

  • It is so beautiful to see Billy Joe as he was when I first fell in love with his music. Very nostalgic for me.

    sashita

  • I Billy see this ...I think we all miss Eddie, Nothing but the best to Billy Joe

  • Billy Joe is a national treasure. Eddy was a hell of a guitarist, stupid way to die though. Why will this vid only play 20 seconds?

  • Billy Joe at his best !! Thanks for the post .

  • I have always loved Billy Joe. He's had such a hard life...God bless him

  • great to see Eddy......great Strat tone and chops.

  • Been a long time BJS fan, but never saw him in person 'til July 4th '05 at Willie's Picnic at Ft. Worth. I came especially to see him and I was not disappointed. Maybe it's just me, but you ain't seen sh*t until you see him live! I can just imagine seeing him and Eddie both... too bad. Even amongst the "Outlaw Country" fans, this guy is grossly underappreciated.

  • I agree 100%. I have seen him live, and he autographed my "Tramp on Your Street" CD. I think that is his BEST album. I remember I was standing in line to go into the concert, and someone said he was eating with his band down the road in a small cafe. I went in there, introduced myself, and told him that I was big fan. I will cherish that autograph.

  • Billy Joe Shaver is one of the BEST COUNTRY SINGERS. I love the way he sings a song. He is a GREAT SONGWRITER too. Its great to see him with his son Eddie in this clip. I love how Billy Joe is country to the bone, and his son rocked that guitar.

  • Seeing Eddy makes me cry! :(

  • Thank you Rspaceball!!! Eddy Shaver is one of my favorite guitarists and finding live footage of him and his dad is pretty rare. If you have more like this keep 'em coming!!!! Thanks a bunch!
