I saw Richard perform last night. He did this song and it was as great as it was 10-years ago. This guy is just incredible! I wish we bought tickets for the second show, because I would have loved to see it again.....
OMG i get goose bumps and cry when I hear him start that song.THAT is the only version of that song that should be played. The original sounds sick if you hear it now. It's a shame that he refuses to play it anymore- I guess he is just sick of it. We DID talk him into playing it when we saw him in PHX on Valentines Day- I also heard someone hired him to play that song at their wedding- can you imagine? Saw Jonathan Butler sing that with hime once- ooh goose bumps again
What an Awesome!! version. You can tell Richard is feeling it in his heart and soul, the way he gets down on his knees. I would love to hear this live. Way to go guys.
You know, I've been a Richard Elliot fan for over 20 years now, and I think he "sounded" better back when this was recorded. It's not only his style that I liked more, but also his sound. His tone and projection is superb. Perhaps as a player he's gotten better, that's a given, but I STILL say he took a step back by switching saxes from Yamaha to LA sax, and different mouthpieces, too. His new found sound and style still leaves me wanting him to return to what he was back 20+ years ago.
Lasax sound is amazing. I had one soprano and I had two alto and one tenor. Very good intonation. The Barryngton Sax Alto by Lasax is little bit out tune the octaves. Yamaha is better at tone pitch, but the sound from Lasax is the better. I dont play YAS 875, but the YAS 62 is little bit better Lasax (only at the keys construction material).
Sim, sou Eu.

when a man isn't destroyed by a woman, all is possible :P
And this Sax player and this "when a man loves a woman" really sound like the original/popularized version (I'm searching this, but I only found remix and this) and THIS VERSION is seener then thoses fake or disfigured versions.... I love the 80,90 or that essence with real musician, real power, not only technology without FEELING!
I'ld like to be a musician and give songs like those,
What a performer!! And that sound, perfect!! That's my only knock to Richard was switching from Yamaha to LA sax, to me there is no comparison, the Yamaha has it all over the LA. Plus, he switched mouthpieces, this one being a Strathon, his new piece, I have no idea what it is, but I think he gave up a little, but that's just my opinion, obviously it hasn't hurt cd sales, he's bigger now than ever. Still, hands down the best saxman around, nobody emits the same character from the sax as him.
THIS is the way Richard should play this song EVERYTIME!!!!! Good Job except you cut off the last powerful note....but of the 3 videos out there yours is #1!!!!! I'm soooo glad you caught it on tape!!! Back when he juiced it up juuust enough!!!!! Thank you! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! Richard Smith on guitar is great too.
I love how at 3:50 he's just in the back going like it's heavy metal!
