  • it was the one of worst decisions in the history that make this masterpiece demolished. :p

  • Around 6:00 the person sneaks inside

  • Deus ex feelings.

  • la ciudad esta murallada?alieeeeennnnnsssssssssssssss

  • Cause alieeeeeens

  • Directed by Paul Greengrass?

  • LVL: ASIANS

  • From what I read, it was not as dangerous as it seems. I don't know for sure. Either way, I still wish I could have visited it.

  • obra del maestro wall-E

  • fucking japaneses i mean chinese

  • This place is surreal.

  • Damn. Kowloon looks like a shithole.

  • NB: They walk though the city @ 6:00

  • I heard this place was ungoverned. That fights there are frequent

  • why so dense? it belonged to another country?

    thanks

  • @IronPump89 Actually it did belong to another country, it was a PRC enclave withing British Hong Kong.

  • i came here cause it was related to guildwars factions.

  • eu q achava q o complexo era feio !!!!!

  • I used to roam around this place in Shenmue II :)

  • it's just like a hell !!!

  • poor camera has Parkinson's

  • black ops

  • That was some sweet matchmoving.

  • my dad patrolled this area in the 80's and said when he would try to catch criminals he would lose them because they ran in there and got lost because it was like a maze

  • i absolutely love the history of this structure, too bad they demolished it ¬¬ they should have preserved it as a tourist attraction T_T

  • y este video que putas

  • This video is fucking great.

  • Why the source of information is so important?

If you know this by a book : its OK.

If you know this by black ops : Still OK.

The good thing you are learning something.

  • Bloodsport indeed. I always assumed those alleys were hallways... That was one crazy place, man.

  • THE REAL SIN CITY,BUT NOW SAFETY

  • Fuck Black Ops, I first learned about this in the 90's

  • @riken1 AGREE.fuck black ops.I'm a Hong Kong people,and since black ops came out,whenever I search "Kowloon",and bunch of nooby BO flips came out.FUCK.

  • BLOODSPORT!

  • Wow, incredible.

  • Kinda liked the city

  • @motonagajiro wow did you film this? if the chianese goverment caught you filming that, they would of shot you as a spy. great video though. i find stuff like this facinating.if you havnen't already you might want to check out famagusta (not sure the spelling's wright) on the island of cypress.

  • @graph15 It hasn't existed since the early 90s during British rule, I think it was likely a bit of a tourist attraction... From the outside at least... lol

  • I Stumbled Upon this and as soon as I saw the video I was like "woah, black ops" lol.

  • Only in Asia :P

  • Never played Black Ops and I know of this.

  • I can see why you had your camera in a bag then, that would have been worth decent money back in 1990

  • this is a map in cod?

  • this is very important footage, this no longer exists

  • @Luckyroux40777 I think this is the part that does the rest was destroyed.

  • Heard that the lower levels were inhabitable because of garbage.

  • @Halm55 I think the word you want is "uninhabitable"

  • I heard about it in The Bourne Supremacy (book). But I didn't look into it, I remember ( in jest) I warned my sister (who was travelling to Asia). To stay out of the Walled City, little did I know it had been demolished. Black Ops revived my interest.

  • SHENMUE 2

  • Alright guys, this is kind of complicated:

I played black ops, but I didn't realize that the interrogation mission was in the walled city - I just thought it was somewhere in kowloon. Then, I was just reading about enclaves and exclaves, and learned of the walled city since it was an exclave of China back during British controlled Hong Kong. So I didn't learn about it from black ops - yay!

  • Nice job on the vidio stabilizing effect! i could imagine how complete shit this video would have looked like without it. it wouldnt be worth watching

oh and FYI, IP man brought me here

  • What is this awesome stabilising effect?

  • 1,200,000 people / km² .... maaaaaan

  • i'd heard of Kowloon from Black Ops, but searched "abandoned cities in the world" and found out it was real, and really fucked up. opium, prostitutes, dog meat, and a really unsanitary place. incredibly interesting though.

  • i kill people there BLACK OPS

  • shenmue 2 brought me here

  • fuck you call of duty i searched "kowloon" and i found bunch of black ops videos

  • I learned about this place from the anime series Street Fighter 2V.

  • what does this have to do with COD???

  • @HollandandJasper

    Have you played Black ops?

  • @jawz117 no.

  • @HollandandJasper

Kowloon is a level on black ops,the CIA are looking for a scientist here.

  • Man, what an eyesore

  • what is that camera steadying technique? thats awesome

  • Thumbs up if you hate hipsters (I.E. TheCaDoosh)

  • I know this from the famous airport Kay tak! was one of the most difficult approaches! :)

  • camera inside a bag. :D

  • Can somebody explain me, why the the date in the camera is moving? I thought he was filming out of a box. But then the date would need to stand still..

    Looks weird to me..

  • @LuisPrise In 1990, the date moves with the camera focus

  • @LuisPrise

    kids... or maybe you're high

  • @LuisPrise

Because the movie is actually unstable as hell, but it's been stabilized later. So if the edges of the screen stood still, the picture would shake instead.

  • @LawlietJP

    that sounds right, thanks

  • Before Black Ops=50 000 views... After Black Ops 290 600 views. .D.D.D (I know Walled city BEFORE black ops)

  • Who cares about CoD Black Ops?

I knew about this city from Shenmue II

  • @xxxruitecxxx All the people who know about Kowloon from Shenmue 2 rock, all the people who know about it from Black Ops are losers.

  • Shenmue 2 FTW

  • 95% of the people who play Call of Duty Black Ops don;t even know what this place was

  • 33 people have never played black ops

  • Shenmue 2. I wish I could of went before getting destroyed.

  • I was born in the east section of the walled city

  • wow did people really live in there??

  • @migselv16896 yes 30,000+

  • Wow, I knew about the place but didn't think it was really like they depicted it in Black Ops

  • it looks like the future our generation wil live in after WW3

  • these buildings remember me shenmue 2, it's amazing how perfect in the game they are.

  • stupid black ops been around for what? 3 months?

kowloon was there hundreds of years.

  • Although they have totally taken down the place, it is now a great park and monument to what it used to be. I think it's one of the best free attractions in Hong Kong. I always take tourists there.

  • thumps up if you knew about this, without the help from black ops...

  • @TheCaDoosh I knew about Walled City through Shenmue 2, do I still get to thumb-up?

  • @TheCaDoosh i had been here bfore 2 kowloon but not to these parts tho

  • @TheCaDoosh SHENMUE 2 !!!

  • @TheCaDoosh

yes, but I knew it today lol, wikipedia it´s full of surprises

  • @TheCaDoosh hitman codename 47 counts then? :)

  • @klonekollector walking luggage

  • this gives me the same headache as when i watched cloverfeild

  • +100000 after black ops

  • How does one pronounce it? It's Koh-Loon, correct?

  • It's like going through the freakin catacombs!

  • Kowloon is my FAVORITE MAP! I wish i couldve visited kowloon!? :(

  • @ericown Shenmue II. Black Ops wasn't the first.

  • @ericown COD as well? I was only aware of Shenmue 2 doing Kowloon.

  • @ericown Fuck off.

  • amazing video. really has a sinister edge to it, probably added by the camera movement.

  • there making a map on black ops of this city :P

  • what year was the city demolished?

  • @rawfflecakes 1993

  • haha that city was a free anarchist city. until the motherfucking commies fucked it up in 93

  • @MrWootman10 In 93 HK was still British governed, get your facts right before you open your mouth.

  • @devilhunterred even though kowloon was a part of hong kong, the brits didn't have shit to say there... the chinese mafia ran this city, there was no police, no law, nothing, so the other guy is halfway right

  • @MrWootman10 Yeah, right, anarchist paradise... working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and sleep in a damp room at night, without seeing daylight - all for the profit of someone living in comfortable houses. I wonder why everybody doesn't want to live like that.... (or maybe you live in the suburbs?)

  • I hope this place have some improvement from now.

  • that was an amazing place... really. Crazy stuff. i would loved to be there at least once

  • It's hidden in a bag

  • one of the most beautiful city's in the world...in my standards

  • I went there once when I was 9 to visit some family friends who had a HK style convenient stores there. All I can remember now is going through those funny many alleyways apparently inside a building. It was quite an experience.

  • why the camera is moving like this?

  • wtf??is that guys i dont understand

  • Great stuff. many thanks for sharing

  • gta kowloon...

  • Kowloon should've been preserved for the ages.

  • @wiimax5138 Oh I guess that was only a few months after I was born, that was a long while ago it seemed like a real part of hong kong history

  • To all newly recruited mailmen: your duty from now on is KWC. Good Luck!

  • I wish I couldve visited this city, or even hong kong in general, but I was wondering, when exactly was it torn down?

  • @NewNorthshore April 1994

  • It's bouncing around, so i guess he's trying to conceal it. Why'd he hide the camera? Was he scared that if he held the camera out it would get stolen?

  • Damn shame they tore it down, the few people i have spoken to that have been there lived there or had family that has, said while it did have some criminal element, they kept to them selves and the city was not the cesspool the local government portrayed it to be.

Such urban treasures being demolished is a shame all about keeping up with appearances.

  • this video show what my mother worked in the mall of the cacanuts.

it small and i dont understand how josue lived there.

    are you talking to me?

  • interesting sad and incredible

  • Who else is watching this because of Shenmue II ?

  • @TheTSina me

  • Almost shocking that part of it did not collapse in I'm sure it was under tons of stress the way it was built. To bad they did not leave some buildings left for the park that was made in it's spot.

  • Sega we wan`t Shenmue 3 :P

  • @gustoThegangsta that game was way ahead of its time

  • @armreyn You`re right. i always want to play Shenmue 2 when thinking about Hong Knog :)

  • Thanks for posting this rare and historical insight into such a cultural anomaly. This city fascinates me to no end.

  • Awesome document. I was in Hong Kong in 2006, too late to see the Walled City...

  • I first heard of Kowloon Walled City on the documentary "Dangerous Days: Making of Blade Runner". At some point someone said it was a really Blade Runner like place. Gotta say I never thought it would be possible to go back in time and walk on Kowloon Walled City again...amazing document indeed. Thank you, motonagajiro! =)

  • its like the berlin wall, not knowing what it signifies

  • i grew up in a slum similar to a place like this. i tell you it is one of the most gloomiest places in the world. rats, cockroaches lurking in the dark, drug addicts and weird wierd people in the deep alleyways, there is nothing good about a slum

  • this is great, im fascinated by this place...now theres a park there.

  • excelente, solo hay un fallo: EL MOVIMIENTO DE LA CAMARA!

  • Amazing.

  • Why did you have to hide the camera?

  • @dxarmy94

because having a camera means you have money,

and having money means your gonna get mugged.

  • Thanks to Dark Roasted Blend . com for educating me on this city. Outstanding!

  • I guess many of you think this is amazing footage but it doesn't really show anything. You could probably get the same thing walking down any Hong Kong street.

  • Anyone wanna try a game of lucky hit?

How bout a game of lucky hit?

  • It seems so peaceful :p

  • @diego81990 well it was already quiet there at 1990 because people abandoned the city ...in 1987, it was already decided that it would be removed and eviction started.

  • damn, this place must've smelt like shit!

  • The KWC is gone but the Chungking Mansion is going strong. If you want a taste of how the KWC may have been to walk through, try one of the alleys on either side of the Chungking Mansion on Nathan Road.

  • @gilil

Yes, I did notice that...But didn't coment on it because...well...what where the chances?

It sure is a bit creepy...Poor woman must have had an horrible life...Sitting there everyday surrounded by hell, literaly.

    @bluevelvet

Chicago does seem an interesting place to visit. I'd be sure to go there on a cold season.

  • Haha..anyone else notice 6:54..the same woman is sitting there at the same spot as shown in the Japanese document Kowloon walled city 九龍城砦 (at 1:24)??? Guess she always sits at the same spot!!

  • Wow this place looked so interesting. Would've been a great place to explore as long as you didn't get mugged!

  • scary.............brave person the one who was with the camera walking its streets..............

  • @pablotjob

Wasn't it hidden ? low near the ground? shaky video ?

  • That's a cool place! Reminds me of Jabba's Palace.

  • To outsiders, this place seems like a nightmarish dystopia where no light ever comes through. To the residents of the Kowloon Walled City, it's a life as normal as anyone in Hong Kong.

There's not much crime in this city since the 80's, and it's a gigantic community that people got used to. It's pretty sad it's gone, it's been home to so many people.

  • @MrKasachstan

I would have loved to have gone there. Whenever we went on vacation, I would slip away, and explore this town in Mexico at night. Armed with only a flashlight, and a sense of adventure. There were risks. I could easily have encountered scorpions, rattlers, and hoodlums who roamed the streets. Still, I consider those times, the best years of my life. The payoff was looking up at the night sky, and see the countless stars shining back down.

  • I love the night, urban environments, exploring every inch of the human mind, especially it's flaws... This city had it all , and in a vast quantity...

I do believe big cities in the future are going to be just like that...lawless,everyone on their on, aglommerations of tall buildings making it impossible for the sunlight to reach the ground, the constant feeling of sadness... And yet I'd be damn pleased if I still lived when that happened.

  • bro, if you really wanna live in those places you should move in with me, lol. I live in a similar place, although not as massive as kowloon, but I love it

  • @16Vagabond

that kind of intrigue and nostalgia is the most intens and beautiful feeling of life I can experience... I can't explain why, but it just does something to me

  • The eerie aspect to it is just so...it really brings tears to my eyes, I wish this place still existed, I would have given anything to live there.

You can hear the wind whistling on the background...is just so beautiful.. It calms me down greatly, the best part is that it must have been like that all day and night long, because of the overly extended narrow paths...

  • @16Vagabond

    come to Chicago

nice and windy aaaaaall the damn time.

    enjoy.

  • Woah, I would have given anything to visit Kowloon, it's so strange to such things right in the middle of the city, pity I wasn't even born when it was demolished...
