You can't judge their ability to perform it live based on mad tv, almost all tv performances are garbage because their sound men have no clue how to set up right for a musical performance. They're used to setting up one a few microphones and a PA. Not to mention the studios they are held in are way to tiny to have any where near the type of acoustic performance a venue needs for live music to sound right.
