Aw...a carbon-copy of my Theo...It was because of him I learned how to do the little chitter-sound this one's doing, how to speak kitteh, and how to really get through to a cat.
cats are beautiful creatures, and in my opinion, they are the best animals to have as pets, but let's be honest, they can sometimes be psychos!!!!! 0_o
That's the nicest looking MC I've seen!...I so wanted to buy one, but all the one's that look the best to me, are already sold!....Yours is purrfection!:)
we have a maine coon, his name is pistol, a couple months ago he attacked a bird and ate it.. but we all love him, and he had a sister she was mine her name was bunny but she died when she was 5 weeks old.:((
@chhhhhhhhhhhhhhase13 I feel you on that, same here. ): I'm sorry for your loss. I can relate (you can see the video dedication I have of a cat like this one). Maine coons are amazing!
@chhhhhhhhhhhhhhase13 Just lost my baby too. It's incredibly hard to go through it. There really isn't anything you can do to make it hurt less. My heart goes out to everyone who goes through it, and not just with cats. Any pets.
My former roommates had a Maine Coon named Lovey, who used to do this same thing. You could tell how close the birds were to the house by how chatty he was and how fast his tail was wagging!
My cat is a Maine Coon too and he does that too! Every morning, he and his brother sit by the window that faces the bird feeder and they both do that for at least a half hour. It's so cute, I always call it "birdy meowing"
my cat does that too but she is a tabby she is soooooooo cute and i love her sooo much watch her in one of my videos it is called my cute kitty cat go to my channel and watch it(only if you want to of course)but it would be nice to have some more veiws(i dont even have 50 veiws)
Cats are natural born predators and still like to hunt even if it's an indoor cat. When they chatter their teeth like that while watching birds or any other natural prey, they are frustrated and want to go catch the bird but can't get to it. Also when doing this they are gnashing their teeth with the same amount of force they would use to kill the bird. Hope that's helpful :3
Mine does that too, but he also makes this sound that sounds like "Mac Mac Mac" (his name is Mac, so we figure he's "introducing" himself to the birds rofl)
Anyone with a Main coon has your cat's voice changed at all as it got older?? My cat Mr. Missy, he sound like he is mowing with something in his mouth when there is nothing in it.
I have a cat which I got from the local cat shelter as a kitten...
Looking at YT videos of Main Coons and reading all the details on Main Coon websites, I think that she is a pedigree Main Coon...
Her physical characteristics, vocalisations, intelligence, and behaviour are all perfectly Main Coon-like. She doesn't have one un-Main Coon characteristic...

The discription to the viseo is actually the explanation for why your cat does that. Felines, for some odd reason, do that when they want something or get frustrated. My childhood babysitter's cat did that when he hunted in the trees.
~~~
Dad used to run a lazer pointer across a wall and my Grandma's cat would watch it. Cat's brains calculate the object's path and look ahead where it will be. When May Sue did that he'd move the lazer on a different path. Then she'd do the mouth thing! xD
Looks like my cat except it's a girl. Don't know how old she is because I found her as a stray in November 2 years ago but we all reckon she's about 6-8 years old now. She loves to look outside the window which I think is a hint she wants to go outside but we never let her because theres a large street outisde and we think she would never come back.
I have had several cat in my past including a Maine Coon and I have never seen a cat do this until recently. I have three Maine Coon kittens that I am going to breed once or twice and they have been such an experience. One of the females saw a squirrel out the window and did this same movement with a lot more noise. It was the strangest thing that I have ever seen.
my cat looks just like urs!!! he even dose that with his mouth and chatters!!! he also rubs his nose on the window making a squeaking sound ...me luvs me cats!!!
always wondered why cats do that - i have had many cats and each one of them would do this at some point !! - its like they are trying to talk to what they are thinking about hunting
Thanx for the video. My MC mix Dexter does this all the time. I've owned about 10 cats in my life and only Dex who is part MC has been doing that. He does it sometimes when I eat to. He mimics my speaking to.
That's very interesting! When my MC male was chirping Blue Kays and Cardinals down from the trees *and then eating them!*, my other cats would watch him intently and "try" to imitate the behavior, but they just couldn't pull it off. Most cat owners, I've tried to describe the behavior, have never seen it. I have 2 females right now that are also VERY successful at catching food this way =)
@spokanetrish that is not true. i have had many cats and at least two of them, that weren't maine coon, did this. any time a little bird would come and sit on the fence and every time i tied something on a string and swung it before them like a pendulum. such cuteness!
My female cat looks just like this male cat, except she doesn't have the classic Maine Coon thick tail. But, she loves water. Every morning, when I take a shower, she hops in the tub. She loves to play in the water, and though not every day, taking into consideration her coat, there are times when she lets me shower her completely down from head to tail with my hand held shower cord. She loves it. Then she licks herself dry. She always comes back for more. Maine Coons do love water, don't they?
That behavior is called "chirping". It is kinda gross, but your cat is anticipating catching the bird. Once they catch their prey in their mouth, they make a sawing motion with their teeth to decapitate their prey. I have a female maine coon mix who does this all the time.
awesome maine coon, iI have one that looks extremely similar and does the same things to the city Pigeons around here. She even makes this chattering noise while she does it, like she is mimicking a bird call or something. I love Maine Coons.
My cat used to do this when he was playing with one of his toys. He would chirp when he would open his mouth like that. So it's probably them trying to lure them in or something.
That is exactly what it is. When cats want birds to come to them, they start chittering. lol It's very cute, but I always make sure to bring my cats in when they star
awesome maine coon, iI have one that looks extremely similar and does the same things to the city Pigeons around here. She even makes this chattering noise while she does it, like she is mimicking a bird call or something. I love Maine Coons.
He is beautiful. I have a male Maine coon (Duncan) that looks just like your cat that weighs 14 pounds and he's almost 2 years old. He's a beast!
My cat used to do this when he was playing with one of his toys. He would chirp when he would open his mouth like that. So it's probably them trying to lure them in or something.
