Ooh I like this one J! Can't think how I missed seeing this before. What a very clever and thoughtful premise for a music vid. And yet again, your meaningful putting together of image and lyric. Great song to use. Thank you.
Thank you! I went totally arty on this one in a kind of german expressionist manner egged on by the rather Kurt Weill-esque tone of the music--and then I sort of entered a fugue state with Helen during the instrumental break with its arabian flavor and went a bit mad with the visuals and fx. But I think it works quite well and I was pleased with the way it turned out.
You jolly well should be pleased. I would be; I'd love to have a bash at doing this but wouldn't have a clue as to where to begin. So p'raps as well I just stick to relishing the efforts of others eh?
I loved the arty feel that you put in this Bacchae2. It gives the video some depth and I enjoyed the way you froze then zoomed in. The seeing Helen obscured by prison bars was good too. I can't wait til I learn how to do this editing and uploading stuff.
this is really great - much more interesting and thought-provoking than the average fanvid, imho. like witchlesbian i also hadn't realized how often helen was shot from nikki's side of the bars. nice use of fx and pacing in the editing, too. great stuff!
Who better to handle this song--& this particular character. Freed's musical expansiveness is balanced by the emotional constraint that's its subject. In a complementary way, the Kurt Weill-y sound of the verses (tempered here w/your black & whites) adds to the chorus's lavishly despairing punch. Given how loaded the song is, seemed beyond apt for Helen--& yr skills. In short, you rock, I effin' adore this, & I'm gonna have to start a blog just to analyze these if you keep this up, innit. ekny.
Have to agree, great work. Fits in nicely with a Mandana Jones interview where she says the couple struggle because they're both incarcerated in a way.
Thank You!!! I never realized until this video how often they shot Helen from Nikki's side of the bars...it really does relay just how trapped Helen is by her life...it makes you realize that even thought she wasn't behind, she wasn't free either...freedom is a state of mind!!! Thanks again...Great Video!!!
Excellent work. Love the special fxs. They were used very wisely, especially the blinds fx with the cell bars. Loved the song and how you synched it with the video when it slowed down. Great work! Keep 'em coming, J.
