That's a great question. I would speculate a few reasons. 1. This happened during Bloomberg's first term, and we already had an election after that. 2. Many New Yorkers' just don't care. New York has become immunized to the gestapo style police tactics. Many actually believe that the police can do no wrong. The police union is extremely powerful, politicians are terrified to criticize them. 3. Thompson was outspent by a hundred millions dollars, had very little money, and had to pick his fights.
