Recuerdo este doble album LP cuando lo compré .....cada vez que lo tocaba y miraba los graficos me daba una sensacion de miedo y a la vez gozo por la buena musica....aquellos buenos tiempos... YEAH !!!
Ozzy Osbourne will probably outlive all of us. 100 years in the future he'll be more machine than man, kept alive far longer than anyone else... and he'll still be the king of metal.
@TheMik1974 uhhh randy rhoads play it?? well bob daisley plays bass unless im wrong, but im pretty positive he does. And btw this is Brad Gillis on guitar and he is pretty good IMO. Im a drummer and I just love tommy aldridge he fucking kicks ass on this album!
I wish Randy could've played this along with Black Sabbath, The Wizard, NIB, War Pigs, Sweet Leaf, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Am I going Insane (Radio), Gypsy, and Never Say Die. Otherwise about every song on this album...
@302zman Thanks you for mentioning that!! You can plainly hear punch-ins on his voice throughout the entire album and even though I love all of these songs and the musicians involved in making it, this album is completely dull and lifeless compared to the original versions and Brad Gillis' style doesn't fit these songs AT ALL!!! .......just sayin'.
@302zman How do you know? Even if he dubbed more vocals over his live performance it's in perfect pitch relation to it, which would be a tedious and fruitless process. It actually wouldn't make a difference in tone, unless they edited them out somehow. Besides the vocals are obviously differen't in rhythm than the studio version.
I could never figure out why Nightranger's Brad Gillis didn't drop the soft rock stuff and stay with this heavy stuff. He used a Fender Stratocaster on this tour with Ozzy and demonstrated what kind of a prodigy he was back in the day. I think he was probably as unique and talented as any of Ozzy's other "henchmen" he acqured over the years.
@usblues100 agreed..Brad adds a nice feel to it all..btw i didn't know he toured with ozzy...u guessed it..not a huge ozzy fan..listened to Sabbath in the 70s and went on to Mr Crowley and then lost touch with the whole scene..
@usblues100 Gillis was my favorite of all Ozzy's guitar players. I recognize that Jake was his best but there is something about Gillis playing that resonates with me to this day
Snowblind was always my favorite Sabbath song, and I was always particularly impressed with Brad Gillis's guitar treatment of this recording. Thanks for the post- it brings me back to a time when things were a lot better, at least for me..God Bless
I agree, Brad did a fantastic job filling in for the irreplaceable Mr. Rhoads. Even NOT under the tragic circumstances, he was a fabulous guitarist for Ozzy, though sadly nowhere near the level of Rhoads. Even so, listen to those heavy, beautiful Sabbath lines...and he learned 'em in how much time? A month or two? Wow. Love Ozzy, Randy...and even Brad:)
coca, novacoca, cocain at 3:18 when he sings dont you think i dont know what im doing makes me feal good about how I run my life i like the poetic sound of the song
This was my greatest Ozzy memory when this double lp came out in 1983. He played all the Sabbath songs with Brad Gillis on guitar as Randy Rhoades passed away on March 19,1982. Ozzy did this cuz Black Sabbath was rleasing Live Evil with Ronnie james Dio singing on his classic Black Sabbath songs - so they both released the double lps that year. :LOL!
Is that correct? I belive this was an album OZZY didnt wanted to see at all. But a result of a old contract the record company demanded wich i belive is the reason we cant find the videorec Ozzy talk about within the album.
The Speak of the devil video is with OZZY solo songs.
But... maybe ive heard the wrong story or misunderstood it all.
Anyway Im 40yrs and will never get tired of Gillis fantastic sound who give these songs a new dimension.
Ozzy didnt want to release it but pressure by Don Arden, Who owned Jet Records, pushed Ozzy as Blak Sabbath was releasing Live Evil at the time and Ozzy wanted to make sure since Dio was singuing on that LP that he got his Sabbath "due" singing those classic Black Sabbath metal anthems! Brad Gillis did a fabulous job on the Speak of the Devil double live lp.
@75milhouse75 well, he was still gettin his shit back together when the record co wanted another album just right after randy died, and so he thought making an entire sabbath album live would fail, but it was a huge sucsess.
I just heard a cover of this by system of a down and damn did it suck. I had to find this one to cleanse my eardrums. This is the way it was meant to be played. Today's three chord posers don't have what it takes to play these tunes. Modern rock sucks.
@lazrokit1 SOAD is a good band man.. I agree though it wasn't a good cover. However, I don't know what you mean by "three chords" it has all of the same chords the original does, just played differently at a different tempo.
@lazrokit1 There was an even better way to play this song and that was how the original writers of that riff did. The band behind Ozzy here are all great players but they loose the original feeling somewhat in this tune. That happened I think with a lot of the songs on this album.
@lazrokit1 SOAD cover was pretty badass IMO. Look around at the other losers putting out "rock" albums and tell me one that have the ability of SOAD. Not many cant stand up to those guys.
@lazrokit1 whilst i do prefer the sabbath and ozzy versions, system of a down are not 3 chord posers. their version is far more technical than the original, riff wise.
I remember buying this album when I was 9 years old....my first purchase and one of my best....ever.....immediatley started purchasing all the sabbath albums after...vol 4 being my favorite.
I grew up on this album. My parents hated me listening to this song, I really didn't even understand the lyrics till I got older. I was a little kid jammin out to a kick ass song.
Brad Gillis's idea of hammering the fifth note in the main riff adds immeasurably to this version of the song. It's funny how such a minor thing can make such a big improvement. It almost makes up for him being in Night Ranger.
Back in the early 80's was a big Ozzy/Randy and Sabbath fan. Still remember the day I found out about Randy's death. Sitting in 9th grade algebra when friend told me.
I know Ozzy hates this lp and he did the honorable thing by holding off the Tribute lp and not prostituting Randy, but I love this recording. Brad Gillis just kills. This is 10 times better than the live dvd doing Randy's stuff. brad Gillis made alot of fans with this recording!
Because Ozzy has said it repeatedly in print. He said he has never even listened to the lp and does'nt even consider an actual release. It was just a contractual release. He owed the record company a live album and did'nt want to take advantage of Randy's passing. All that being said, Brad made this double lp rock!
That's 100% true. This and Ultimate Sin both; Ozzy hates them and neither one came out with the most recent set of remasters. The discs are actually slightly more difficult to get. I was lucky to get a brand new "Ultimate Sin" disc at Best Buy (of all places), but I've never seen this disc in any store. I do have a burned copy though. Good post...Brad Gillis plays exceptional throughout.
This album came to be because Randy Rhodes had just died and Brad Gillis of Night Ranger was chosen to finish out the tour. Ozzy owed CBS records a live album on his contract, but He wasn't ready to release any recorded tracks with Randy on them. IMHO Brad kicked ass and should have stayed with Ozzy.
It was just a couple of weeks. He was VERY uncomfortable replacing Randy and out of his element doing big arena venues. He hung around until Brad did his 1st gig and seemed to have the material down and then asked Ozzy if it was cool to take off. From what Bernie said, Brad hung around for a few days before he got a chance to audition with the band as nobody seemed to want to work with ANOTHER guitar player! I'm sure the whole band was still in shock. In 3 weeks, Randy dead and 2 replacements!
Leave it to Sharon to keep the money train a moving! All kidding aside I know that must have been a terrible dark time for the whole band. I know Don Airey said he spent some time in therepy. Of course Ozzy found his therapy at the bottom of bottle, that's Ozzy for you. If he wasn,nt under the influence of something he would be somebody else.
