  • Should be more YTPs of this.

  • If you like beefheart ,take a listen to avant rock band Red Square.

They have carried on where The captain and Hendrix left off, and added a bit of Jazz, also they pre-date Sonic Youth, I found out about them on Wiki.Well worth a listen.

  • Umm funny the post I wrote NOT here. Guess I mentioned the Media + that MTV would not play THIS vid on that show. Beefheart appears to be the grass roots of Videos in 1972. A true WOW. I mentioned about why IN MY PERSONAL OPINION<---FREE SPEECH forum; Hummm "Look at Beefheart looking up at those Electromagnetic towers that are know to cause cancer in Humans and animals." SO Bet this is why it did not post. I try once more. YEP. TRUTH hidden-in-plain sight as the TV Predictive Program tool does.

  • ice cream for show? NO!!! Ice cream for crow!!

    hahaha

  • This man was a inspiration because his music was and is a psychedelic montage of madness and music..love him.He is a artist not just a musician or painter , he ia poet and a subversive ...

    RIP Don maaan!!

  • all you brand new hipsters who think you invented it, check him out on wikipedia. nothing new under the sun.

  • Awesome guitar tribute to the captain by ian staples on redsquare 33

  • Man, Zappa and van Vliet gone. The bottom has fallen out.

  • RIP Cap'n

  • RIP Captain Beefheart.

  • R.I.P. Captain

  • R.I.P. Legend.

  • RIP Captain Beefheart!

  • I agree, this is a award winning video , and the lyrics to this song are award winning also. There is so much deep meaning to it all, it has changed my life. BEEFHEART = THE KING OF SONGWRITERS AND LYRICISTS.

  • he studied howlin' wolf's vocal chops and took that down some avenues of brilliance. rare artist; and people listen to jay-z.

  • funny, freaky, groovy shit. love it when dude falls on the ground at 4:03. would that be gary lucas?

  • greatness amongst the unknowing ☮ timeless.

  • Hey,

    Usa, why advertise yer dumbness.

    Turn up the speakers.

    MTV's for Coke

Cut the cake, we'll all get well,

    Groetjes tot Don,

    Allerbeste onze beste,

    Viva Magick.

  • great work .......Don van vliet

    I`m greeting the captain

    pm...austria

  • long live don van vliet and his music. very solid video and brilliant music. this is another example

of music and art without compromises.

all the best wishes for you

    captain

    pm (austria)

  • I really don't see what's so bizarre about this that MTV wouldn't play it. And yet Devo videos were in heavy rotation.

  • i agree with you.; i like the video. it seems to me that mtv was pretty conservative in the early 80`s, too........greetings ....pm.

  • Ah, yes, Devo.

Maybe it had something to do with the music? This particular tune's peculiarly catchy - no prizes though for guessing which would be more bizarre between his band and Devo's.

  • Just Perfect !

  • The Captain Rules...

  • I scream by night & Day

    cream for Quo `▼`

  • i'm surprised no songs of beefhearts have been used for guitar hero. strange that.....

  • hey whats wrong with journey? :( lol

  • hmmm, for some, everything must be splendidly pretty to the eye and devoid of depth...so they totally miss the point of eveerrrrything...,

  • I had no idea Captain Beefheart actually existed. I just thought he was a character created from the magical mind of Mr. John Allison and his comic Scary Go Round. Cool-ness. Awesome-ness. Fun-ness.

  • If you searched up the name, then you would've known he existed. I liked the whole comic background of the man, a good parody of his life so far.

I've heard of him since I was a youngster with the Joan Osborne Relish album (one song was the riff of Clear Spot), but never heard the name until 6th grade.

  • I saw him in the 70's a few times opening for other acts in Philly at The Spectrum.

  • sorry but... where's the talent here? the instrument are simple and repetitive, he isn't a great singer, the lyrics are mad ramblings devoid of any tune or melody.

PLEASE explain why this became so popular, somebody

  • Nevermind, friend. For you there are Journey videos

  • dont you get it? ice cream.......for crows! ingenious

  • it's like when a woman get's on a harley. IF YOU DON'T KNOW I CAN'T TELL YOU.

  • I agree, it isn't brilliant is it!

But a tad camp and kooky \, hehe

  • Where's the talent? Ok, hack, tell me where's the talent in fucking NIGHTWISH? Bunch psuedo operatic clowns with some of the worst and derivative shit, I could ever deign to listen to. "Symphonic Metal" HA HA. About as irritating as EVANUISANCE. Celtic Frost still does it better than any of the imitators.

  • @DJSparkyA Your ears may be open, but your mind is closed. Sadly. And don´t worry, this never became ´popular´, except among a very select number of people who were able to vaguely grasp what the man was all about.

  • Insanely wonderful.

  • I love the Good Captain and would follow him to the ends of the blue million miles.

  • Dear SDChargersForever

you don't know what you're talking about.

  • I don't care for this.

  • Lol who cares if MTV banns something. I ban MTV!

  • The last Magic Band, great song !!!!

  • he clearly a lunatic..

  • Yes, my dour sir, and you are clearly a douche.

Anything else ye might wanna add?

  • I disagree. MTV needs more music like this !

  • Excellent! Thank you for posting this unclevernon.

  • Its Strange, I'm lovin' it.

  • lol i don't blame mtv. it's shit.

  • I can't believe MTV banned this video/song for being 'Too weird'. I would have banned it for being utter shite!

  • Prefer the Osmonds ?

  • Magnificent music, brilliant video, a Genius!

Gary Lucas is also special on slide.

  • Does anyone know where i can get the tab for it?

  • "MTV refused to air [the video], feeling it was too bizarre"

    i love you, captain beefheart!

  • Agonizing to listen to and watch. Extremely confused.

  • why dont you go agonize somewhere else ?

  • i don't get it

why do people listen to this?

    it's unlistenable

  • you listen to Gogol Bordello, and dismiss this? he's not exactly easy listening at first, but like C.B. he grows on ya.

  • When i first saw this vid i couldn't believe it was meant to be serious. Few people are going to be able to understand this style of music. If this is art and poetic, then anything goes.

  • ... and then you read Beefheart's life after Ice Cream, and ye think: maybe he really is making a point?

Well, as one said in my face: There are multiple facets of reality, dude. It does us an injustice not to explore them all.

  • And oh how they dance, those little children of Stone Henge!

  • this video is great

  • wowsome!

  • haha you're complete shit.

  • I think we are the crows and Beefhearts music is the ice cream. Not very easy for us dessert crows to get a desert like this.

  • Just go through the Mike Barnes Beefheart biog last night. Great story behind vid, great vid. Sorry, kids, but your copyist indie bands of the last 25 years would be crushed to dust under Van Vliet's floppy boot. When Beefheart retired, whatever was remotely interesting about rock music died..

  • this is good, but you have to remember to keep searching. your statement is a bit generic.

  • its a sad thing but your so right my friend. what the hell happend to music. i guess th drugs got bad and the ideas and originality ran out. there are a few otuer bands that are good but the cpt was the most original.

  • Hey hey, cheer up gloomy little man. So maybe rock is dead, but maybe something new is coming. Something bigger, better. When the blues started coughing up blood on the mainstream, what came along? Rock and roll.

Something even better will happen, eventually. And if this man inspires it, well, it HAS to be great.

  • I love ye.

Nah - but yer optimism works wonders.

  • @dysonlaz yeah, system of a down sucks me ass. Your comment is soooooooo wrong

  • I like the song it bads.

  • This Video is on rock hallowed ground. It surpasses mere "AWESOME" it is "CROWSOME-MORESOME"

  • I scream for Yo,sweet Captainio

    no scream for Quo though

How Magic can you get óóóóóóóhhh

  • Captain Beefheart is Downright UP-LIFTING!

"The Cult of the Amateur. How today's internet is Killing Our culture." by Andrew Keen. Beefheart hates the internet, youtube, google, myspace, itunes, ipod, AND YOU SHOULD TOO! They'd be no Web, brother, if nobody played! Yeeeeah!!!!

  • love this

icecream byy night suncream by daaay

  • Can't thank you enough for posting this!

  • That looks like fun.

  • yo this music stomps a mudhole in your ass and walks it dry!

  • i love icecream...good post.

  • "i have a beef in my heart against this society." "I feel like acid, even the postman looks groovy" And the floppy boot stomped down!!!! beefheart you are a f'kin god!!!! i luv your schizoid brain!!!! Fast and extremely bulbous! "and the mice played in it's airholes and valves"

  • Yeah, Beefheart is the King Of STOMP! And anything else thrown in for fun... (from A capella to Zydeco AND anything else in between) Got your Floppy Boots on?

  • This is so damn wierd!

  • but utterly cool

  • tubemeok..sorry you're way off on your facts. Besides, if you can't appreciate Don's genius in and of itself, and need some kind of relationship with Zappa to measure it, you're already too far gone. RIP

  • Is there a video for ink mathematics does anyone know?

  • Ice Cream For Crow is the only Beefheart video clip, alas!

Personally I would have loved it if he had been able to make videos for all his songs!!!

  • Oh that's quite upsetting! I haven't heard ink mathematics for so long :(

  • I think there was another video for "lick my decals off, baby".

  • There is a video for "lick my decals" but that is not a real music video: it's an advertisement. It is on Youtube. Actually, I uploaded it so you can find it by looking at my videos...

    Cheers!

  • I would have loved to see tom waits and the captain work together, but it would have been near indistinguishable

  • LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!!!!

  • Beefheart still has a lot of fans cos he's brilliant. Open your ears.

  • Okay I have to comment - my older sister was head of the Capt's fan club in Lancaster, CA back in the 1960s. He used to party with my cousins. I never liked the loud music-thought he was wierd. I can't believe that he still has so many fans out there.

  • i like his glasses ,morrisey had a hearing aid as well beat that pop star poseurs

  • Frank was good, but Don`s a genius.

  • LOL!!! Don learned everything from Frank and Frank kept the guy from starveing to death for years. You need to get the storys straight, Frank WAS the smart one...And Don after changeing his name to VAN , was the imposter...read a few books...The real Frank Zappa would do for a start.

  • like the fire piano...he had to paint cause his words only painted amazing imagist pictures!!! god *DON* why dont ppl understand the coming and exit of the king of the rythm combo surrealist nonsense logic! Guru of gorganzola strength ear cheese!

Seriously the only choice if you drop a tab or two!

  • THIS IS THE CHRIST! I LOVE BEEF!

  • Is that Adrian Belew on guitar?

  • Belew is excellent, but it's the equally superb Gary Lucas.

  • great

  • Its no surprise that Bongo Fury was such a fantastic album....having Zappa & Beefheart together....fucking priceless!!

  • Filligreedy pockmarket boonacre-upon-the-syrup with

hardly a ho-dad insight. Supplies! Day only glow

win over dare cast a nettle and only den when wig warm.

Whee! Wise hollow body always pickin' honor knee.

Who once upon a timebone? You do.In a muddy holler.

  • Captain Beefheart must have taken 10,000 hits of acid in his days!!!

  • only 10,000?

    this video is great

  • Had to of, on Letterman, the guy is near incoherent and poeple call this guy that Zappa supported was called a genoius??? Unbelieveable!!

  • Sober facts, anyone?

Beefheart, like his buddy Zappa, didn't take drugs. What's more, he disallowed his fellow bandmates to take 'em.

  • most of the time they would have been too damn broke anway to afford drugs anyway. but it destroys the myth that you have to take drugs to be this brilliant. some people are blessed/cursed with the ability to see the world the way only other people would be able to realize by taking drugs.

  • The man was a total genius, but we need to think again about his intake of substances other than coffee!! Have a read of Drumbo's 'Through the Eyes of Magic'. He was there from school days.

  • @Israfvel I'm sure you can understand why I don't believe you.

  • Sweet!!! Anything videotic ever done from "Doc At The Radar Station"? (Doubt it severely.) SNL had C.B. on! I saw it in rerun. (Maybe YouTube is too law-suit conscious.)

  • Beneath the symbol, We'll all assemble... Counts for our Canadian dolts in Afghanada right now. Wish that we were more clever by half!

  • Ice Cream by night...suncream by day. Find a better lyric than THAT. Classic Beefheart.

  • THE BEST

    holy cow

  • ultimate swansong & curtaincall.

  • The guy's completely off his trolley! We need more like him, Zappa, Alex Harvey etc . Great stuff

  • great song cool video

  • crj6551, get specs!

  • A decent video, a worthless copy. So lo-fi and lo-res

    it's totally unviewable.

  • Try cleaning your glasses.

  • Awesome.

  • Name just one better music video. I thought so.

  • Schweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

    Thank you Captain.

    Where are you?

    We need more.

    We need more.
