the only reason i watched this movie was b/c of donnie yen but man he would have been better suited for liu bei. Well, there is a speculation that liu bei must have been pretty good warrior since he could wield dual blade on horse.

Just watched i, it was quite a bad movie. Fight scenes, choreography and acting were good, but I totally didn't know who played liu bei. The character and storyline development was weak. If you watch it without reading any online summaries or wikipedia, you will be quite lost until mid movie, so it was sorta like watching pointless fight scenes. The introduction was very weak. Don't recommend this movie for the story line, but the fight scenes were fine.

@jiyefuuu This movie is so freaking shit that my father smashed his head on the seat and went sleeping. It seriously sucked as it changes the original content by A LOT. The movie made Cao Cao potrayed as though he was the hero in the Three Kingdoms, but in fact he is a tyrant. The movie was too based on the part '过五关，斩六将' , which means killing six generals while passing 5 gates. And Donnie Yen was too short. And the freak fact is that THE EMPORER ACTUALLY WENT TO FARM????!!!!!!

You watch the movie online? What a fan. Utterly disappointed. Some movies have to be seen in the big screen, such as this one, i was at the GALA premiere and the response was awesome.

It is BASED on the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms HISTORICAL TEXT, not Romance of the 3 Kingdoms NOVEL! LOL. Do you know that Guan Yu is not sworn brothers with liu bei? Do you know he's not taller than average? Do you know he doesn't have red face? These are all from the novel! The Movie is based on San Guo Zhi, not San Guo Yan Yi

i watched it twice already, in Singapore. It is amazing! Better than Red Cliff 1 and 2, add together! Much more exciting action scenes and the plot is so much more realistic and deeper. Only weird teenagers who only goes in to see PURE action will be disappointed, because this film is about the plot + fighting scenes together, and they compliment each other and made this the best ROTK movie as of today. =)

@DooKNo1 the novel definitely did not portray Guan Yu godlike, he was a strong and capable general and known for his loyalty, but the book did point out many of his flaws, like his arrogance and his poor judgement that lead to his death. And most Chinese don't view Guan Yu godlike (unless in religion), even in regular Chinese mind if you ask them what do you know about Guan Yu, most likely you will get an answer of "loyalty" or "righteousness"...but won't get a "Godlike" answer

@lvcivs11 well technically to be exact, in legends Guan was made into a God after his death and was glorified after the Jin Dynasty. In fiction and in history never mentioned his religion for Buddhism was not widely practiced during the Han but instead in the Tang. And no, Guan Yu did not take a risk, he was too arrogant and overconfident which led to his death. If he just stayed put in Jing Province like he was ordered, he would not have died for his army stationed is too big to be messed with

@DooKNo1 no it is not a realistic portrayal of Guan Yu, Juustbeopen2010 is right, the style you see in the trailer is all wushu and not the actual fighting style back in the day, the spinning of the Guan Dao in the movie is purely for eye-candy, to look good on screen

Guan Yu is said to be 9 span (equivalent to be around 6'8" +/- 2 inches), beard was at least 4 spans long.

Good : starred DY, modern fighting style n settings about the great GY
