  • Ask an honest Evinrude techs about E-tec. Hasn't Doo stopped using E-TEC and gone back to carbs on some models? Some of you are right 4s are heavier, So what, from what I hear real men can handle a little extra weight.

    Ride one, I dare you, thats all it took to convince me. 3 years now same belt, same plugs, nothing broke (the same can't be said about any of the 2s I ride with now). I don't ever want one of those oil burners again.

  • i wasn't really talking about modded sleds, cause the people i ride with dont turbo thier sleds, all i've done to my sled is change the pipes and seat.

  • last year me and 3 of my buddies went riding cause we had just gotten 3 feet of pow. they were all riding 2-strokes, 1 melted down, 1 blew up, and the other hit a tree coming down a hill and ripped and a arm off. we spent the night in a warming hut that we were nearby, until search and rescue found us. ahhh...2-stroke reliabilty

  • Sounds like operator error. Alot of the stock 4-strokes I rode with had problems with thier clutches and had to be hauled off the mountian because they snapped 1 of the bolts securing it to the bottom end. The 2's had problems with carbs which might be why they blew up. As for the one that hit a tree well you tell me if the sled steered to the tree.

  • nah the one that hit the tree was just kind of a moron, and that might be why the 2's had problems, i wasn't worried about it cause it wasn't mine. i've never heard about orhad problems w/ my clutch, bolts or otherwise.

  • I have a modded to the max 2003 RMK 800 151" and a 2008 Polaris Dragon RMK 800 on the way and my dad just bought an M1000 that will be sporting a boondocker stage 3 turbo which is rated for 300+ HP.

  • those r all pretty sweet. i don't really care much for the m 1000, cause we usually have to ride a few miles on a rough trail before we can get to the hills unless it has recently snowed alot. i rode a friend of mines who ownes a dealership in orofino, and it was really rough on the trails. i don't know much about the polaris's tho, but they look nice from what i've seen.

  • the 2-stoke has more power with same amount of mods. A 4-stroke 1000cc 4-cylinder makes 150Hp a 2-stroke 1000cc 2 cylinder makes 165 HP. 2-strokes are 100 lbs lighter give or take 10 lbs. They are less money to fix and you can fix it yourself to save more money. Need I say more?

I've never changed a plug cause of fouling and oil? That takes 5 min for the 5 sleds so go back and wait at the lodge cause you can't keep up.

  • I have to sit there and look at it in the barn. Makes me mad that I can't ride it. We just sold a 2003 600 H.O. X model today. Hard sled to watch go. But last year I rode around a 1999 MXZ 600. Which is the same engine the 500ss has. All I could think was I wish I had this in a Rev Chassis. And now I've got it in a Rev Xp.. =] I can't wait till it snows.

  • i have driven both 2 and 4 stroke sleds. when it comes to trail riding and cornering 4-strokes lack handleing with all the added weight. when it comes to hp and getting up the side of a mountain a 4 string is the way to go.

  • their are advantages to each a 2 stroke engine is a lot lighter because it doesent need the components a 4 stroke engine does you can also mount a 2 stroke engine upside down which helps with displacement in some 2 stroke sleds however a 4 stroke lasts alot longer then a 2 stroke engine and it burns fuel at a much slower rate giving the rider better fuel mileage.

  • Bikes and sleds are way different. They will come down but it still takes 2 times the engine size for a four stroke to make eqaul power as a 2-smoker. I like 4-stroke bikes and I have a YZ250 and I have ridden big bore four strokes mainly a KTM 2004 MXC 450 and they have there ups and downs. With lots of money you can make a 4 have insane power.

I have raced an Apex up the mountian on my old RMK 600 that is piped and clutched and I made it up easy. He was having problems.   • Those 4s are turboed 1000s=300. Those 2s 200-250 w/ no turbo. And they were making it up the same hills. The wieght of the 4-stroke is 657w/gas. The wieght of a Summit X 2007 is 597lbs- same as the dry wieght of the yami with the same engine size and and track length. By the way 4s last a lot longer before rebuild but cost like 4g. A 2-stroke. Like 1g. But in the end they come out as exactly the same.A phazer is about 80 says the maker. The Apex puts out 150. The Summit puts out 172stock.

  • wow you guys sound like broken records... 4 strokes weigh more blah blah blah yah so what they have a genesis engine that will last at least 50,000 miles thats about 5 of the 2-stroke motors and with a 4-stroke you only need an oil change every 5,000 miles etc. i know when i hae enough money im getting a new yamaha phazer with 130hp STOCK!! and its light. i will give it no more than 10 years and all 2-strokes will be out of the picture... GO 4-STROKES!
