  • simply awesome love this guy

  • "I am cruising currently, right now. Heh heh heh heh heh!!!" :D

  • bullshit cheap philosophy... hipsters are developing into this?... white people are so empty they need people like this! ... another Jew rapping without music its just what the world need now! jaja

  • @hombremonja What's bullshit or cheap about it? Doesn't everyone have their own unique view of the world, and their own unique way of expressing it? And there's no need to be racist, man, all that does is put up walls.

  • @andpyramids come on... this guy in the video is putting up the walls! dont be ridiculous about unique view of the world!.if he was asian with acne in the streets of L.A or mexico nobody would care about his opinions of the world..you dont care about the opinion of a lot of people way more geniune that this guy... just because he had the money and some dude follow him with a camera... and he make money with the sellings for drugs (probably) or cigarretes or pbr.. (whatever white americans does)

  • @hombremonja Wow, your racism, prejudice and close-mindedness is astounding. How can you say him or I don't care about other people's problems, or wouldn't listen if it was someone else talking?? You're making unfounded assumptions about people you don't even know, and judging them based on that. And the Jews, like a lot of other races, have had to suffer immensely throughout history, and have been persecuted many times for their beliefs.

  • @andpyramids and im sure he like a lot of new yorkers doesn't care about the opinions of all the mother that have been rape, kill or abuse just from bring him his everyday quimicals.... come on look at your laptop ... do you give a shitt about those120 kids in asia who build it for 1 dollar and 25 cents a day? ... please lets be awesome and listen to a jew taking! cause make think... cause i need to think with my white people problems! jaja

  • @hombremonja And who are you to judge and act like a saint about the people who had to assemble our computers? What are you doing to do any good? I believe Speed definitely cares about such issues, and he's trying to open minds with his discussions which is a fuck of a lot more than I see you doing, by spreading your hate and prejudice. You need to wake the fuck up man. EVERYONE has problems, just in varying degrees. Nobody should have to feel like they can't have a voice!!

  • @andpyramids this year 2011 3 times more people died in africa than the jews (and russians and polish cause its not only the jews the victims) in second ww2 but of course you dont get afected by that cause thy are black and they dont write history. and they dont have internet to express or cable to escape reality... and by the way there is a differens between a racist and a dscriminator.. i may be a discriminator and i react of the behabior of the people. no matter how "history " portrayed them

  • @hombremonja You are once again making assumptions about me, without ever knowing me, asking me, or getting to know me. First of all, I care about ANYONE'S problems, I don't care what race they are. My heart bleeds for the state of the world. Everything is fucked, right now. Secondly, I am not a bottled-water buying, frivolously money-spending, shopaholic, white fascist. And I don't celebrate Christmas, thank you very much. In fact, I'm against it and all the corrupt consumerism it stands for.

  • @andpyramids and im not "spreading my hate" i just saying how it is. everybod have problems its true but there are problems and white people problems... like "first world problems"... come on did you bought your bottle of water already?... do you know what you want for Xmas?... how much its going to cost to make that people you love smile... for you guys its cost money, paper and plastic but somebody else is paying for that with blood my friend

  • @hombremonja Get off your high horse, quit trying to act like you're more compassionate than anyone else. And I apologize to the rest of this video's viewers for this ridiculous string of arguments. But it angers me that you would dismiss me (or Speed) and my point of view or opinion, based on the fact that I am white and from a first world nation. I understand that I don't suffer as much as a lot of other people, but to pass it off as "white people/first world problems" is incredibly ignorant.

  • @hombremonja No one can discern what "it is" you're actually "telling", because you only managed to manifest a whiny diatribe about the perils of people living in third world countries, desperately trying to make it relevant to this video, when in fact it isn't. Nothing about this video attempts to argue against your sentiments toward the plight of lesser fortunate people. It is interesting because this dude is eloquent, and his contemplations on existentialism are interesting.

  • @hombremonja

I am the living whispered warning in the roman generals ear 'glory is fleeting'. How can you not find that funny.

  • If only people had the intellectual ability to have a conversation like this where I live.

  • Anyone who has gotten lost in a foreign city with no right angles has to appreciate New York city's grid plan.

  • Blow up the grid plan..

  • he works at a bar in kansas city, mo called the gusto lounge... its awesome to sit and hangout with speed over a beer and whiskey... so much soul and wisdom in him

  • SPEED WORKS @ DIS BAR 'GUSTO' IN KANSAS CITY???

  • Yeah Speed! I wanna cruise with you, rock star :)

  • Amazing.

  • is it this me or this man douds like a cantoon character

  • i love it!

  • why does this only have 40000 views

  • what a weak communicator

  • i met a girl with which i have more deep conversation with her than this guy had with the camera.. I'm the most lucky guy in the world. -self observation-

  • @mk0frosty id say your conversation was boring and stupid

  • @Marawanasmok we had sex before that :))

  • Does this guy make money at doing this?

I'm not discounting his arguments, but, is this his job?

  • @webgeek6

    He's a tour guide

  • "although I'd be into that too"

  • please . . . we should make a world with people who understand how incredible this guys is and how important are people like him are this world ! !

  • someone should upload the clip from the end, where he tells the story about the Baal Shem Tov

  • how much air conditioning did I have to transcend...brilliant.

  • waking life!

  • Hoop FTW! XD

  • I spent all of last Wednesday afternoon trying to become a flower.

  • wow, he speaks better fluently then most educated write with passion. those are some heavy layers of metaphores and simiilies he's pouring out through his intrinsic language. Good for him

  • That's more than I ever wanted know about a grid plan

  • Undoudtedly.

  • Comment removed

  • "although i'd be into that too"

    haha i love this man

  • Those video errors that blend scene to scene work in this particular case. Happy accidents.

  • i hate the gridplan.

  • i'm as good as this when really stoned...Speed Levitch, awesome, he makes me think

  • Is he gay....? Just out of curiosity, I have nothing against homosexuals

  • @Xxd3cayxX Who cares?

  • @CompletelyIrrelevant

    you must be an idiot

  • @penguinthecat1 What a strong argument. Your justifications and supporting statements add all your intellectual weight to your claim. You have displayed beyond all shadow of a doubt the exact measure of your unparalleled genius, the full extent of your analytic wisdom.

    You feckless tool.

  • It's Puggler! The punk rock juggler! Personified.

  • yo i have a thirteen year old friend with the exact same last name as you (levitch)

  • any second I thought he was going to break into a chorus of "Kumm Bi Yaa, M Lord"

  • The flower is not just nature, its unrestricted existence.

Once we can appreciate freedom and start integrating it into our lives,

It is indeed this relationship that is so psychotic and riveting.

Because we are so meant for this 90 degree exasperation, it allows for efficiency.

It prevents us from looking past what ultimately of us, thinking to far ahead. pondering to deeply. In the effort to see past these buildings and perfect cut bisections, we ask the muralist for his dispensary.

  • @Fruscianteistheman No thesaurus?

  • I wish I could speak like him.

    What's the "cruise"???

  • @Ewokfrost

the cruise = you + time

  • Hoop....?

  • @drewskione thats effin hoop!!!!awesome

  • What a beautiful way to live.

I'll never be able to do the same. But so long as SOMEONE does, I don't mind.

  • Fucking amazing. I love all of it but from 5:00 on his analysis of what that woman said and so on is just incredible. Everyones so caught in meeting celebrities and all the fakeness but to meet someone like this man, an individual- to have a conversation would be liberating and there wouldn't words to describe it.

  • The cruise is code for vagina.

  • @turntapzap really??? I don't get it..

  • "...she was a fastidious, Judaic-type woman in very sexual slacks..." ROFL

  • hey does anyone know what the "cruise" is?

im thinking he mean his life or whatever it means to be alive or even exist in matter and space and everything, but does he every specifically what he means by the cruise and what hes describing when he said that he was currently cruising?

  • @DuppyBruh I think it's a double-meaning. He works as a tour guide so cruising is part of his job. At the same time, it refers to his approach to the life. Instead of taking a tense mechanic approach, he let's the flow of life decide his decision-making, in a way floating like a cruise on the tides of life. So it's a way of improvising I think. So in simpler terms... yes living is cruising for him.

The cruise is I think the title of the documentary about Levitch from which this is taken.

  • the flower does appreciate the beauty in you.

  • This is normal conversation for me, though I rarely find people to talk like this with. It is a form of sincerity as he posits. I wonder if he he listens to someone who can speak on his level. He might interrupt you. It would be cool if he was a good listener too. Who knows? If he is a good listener, he would be the perfect friend.

  • i wonder if he still does tours? if so id love to take one

  • A lot of the people commenting this definately haven't re-read what they wrote; if they did they'd think "I am talking shit"

  • brilliant, peaceful, amazing and beautiful.

  • I was introduced to this guy in one of my English classes and my God is he amazing. Most people will look at him and think he's crazy, but's so lucid and able to really articulate what I think everyone feels. Why can't everyone be like this?

  • what a wonderful man.

  • He is so good at articulating thoughts, it's endearing.

  • i love u speed

  • dracanic...perhaps A+B does = X...

what do you think people who were not well versed in physics thought of Einsteins E=MC'2??

just because we are not as versed in metaphysics does not give us the authority to discredit this man

  • @Dracanic shut the fuck up. Think outside the box you square piece of shit

  • Comment removed

  • very poetic

  • ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

  • this was meant as a reply to a comment, not as a comment on the video. I find the video VERY enlightening.

  • @soran27 Ignorance is the root cause of whatever problems you have ever had, have, and will ever have.

  • um ancientcian...it's really not that hard to understand...he's talking about life...why don't people have more conversations like this guy does...me and my friends have these conversations all the time.

  • imagen if everyone had conversations like this

  • I wish people would be more open and express their inner selves to others, there's a lot of interesting folks that we can learn from. So I back you up! :)

  • @berma051 Find an informal aspergers support group where "social lubricants" are acceptable. Just be warned that some like us are less patient than others.

  • @berma051 I don't know about you, but me and a few of my friends do all the time.

  • @berma051 it can happen, if people stopped doing drugs and started meditating

  • @dualnature69 i agree i also feel that people who do drugs would like meditation and wat it brings alot more if they knew wat it really was. drugs played a big part in my life or i should say the counter culture it made me see the world from an outsider perspective and came to a lot of realizations and i felt that was a positive of drugs (casual use) meditation however made me see myself from another perspective and also gave me many realizations

  • @berma051 imagine if everyone could spell imagine

  • "I've dedicated myself to the idiom 'I don't know,' and am in love with the frantic chaos of this limitless universe." (7:26)

This might be the point most worth understanding, in this or any other video...

  • i wish i understood whatever the hell he's saying...

  • don't underestimate yourself.

  • @ancientcian Thank you for wanting to understand rather than just writing it off as gibberish like some of these people :)

  • Lashing out against "the grid plan" is like lashing out against the wheel, both physically and metaphorically. There is no escaping the need for structure and there is no escaping the human condition. If society started over from scratch, there would be more grid plans and things like, music structure, math... and the wheel. People would inherit the same neurosies.

  • @Ironchefpizza Absolutely, it pisses me off when idiots tag anarchy symbols, with the mindset "fuck the police, I wanna [insert self-serving illegal activity here]." Our ancestors have worked hard to set these systems and rules up, and they exist because they work as best as possible in a greedy world. We would be fucked without them. Timothy is actually lashing out against those who think "everything's fine, this is the way things always should be, who cares what else is possible" in general.

  • Tim Levitch is so pretentious. Jesus. In his philosophical raps, he's so plainly the result of a lifetime spent talking instead of listening.

He's a pretty fantastic tourguide, though.

  • LOL!

    Comment of the year.

  • this puts me in a peculiar mood.

  • Unklphat: Humanity needs a 'grid plan' language like they need a shopping mall. Spoken language is but one of many forms of communication. We have fallen into learning to rely on the physical so much that we have fallen out of touch with anything outside this material world. Animals are MORE aware than humans are and do you think they even conceive the thought of requiring a 'grid plan?'

  • And for those who think that this clip is just words without meaning, listen closely O_o

  • my father had no problem emoting

we can all be unsatisfied with things but that is what everyone does

fear is a common tie that binds us together

  • what dude? you are kind of lame.

  • His point would make sense if he himself were the final culmination of everything before him, the ultimate resolve point of existance, but the world goes on and on - and humanity needs a "grid plan" to pass along a message.

  • By describing "The Cruise," he is using a set of words and me a set of letters to communicate and share. It's an underlying structure and organization that we all rely on to do more together. By Levitch slamming the city's grid plan, he needs to recognize that words and letters are themselves a "grid plan," so are the pixels and bits that make up this film.

  • You make a good point Unklphat, however although words and letters are similar to the grid plan, in that they are a structure within which we work. Think of streets that are windy, natural and that have evolved naturally. They are not homogenous, rigid, and restrictive. This is similar to language. Language unlike the grid plan, is a natural, evolving 'structure' within which we can define ourselves and celebrate our individuality. We don't sound the same or end up at the same destination do we?

  • i would argue that his denunciation of the grid plan is not contingent on his physical being transcending the grid plan, but his own essence. he acknowledges the fatalism behind this grid plan and the deterministic pathways underlying all human behavior and interaction. so while he may not be able to physically transcend the ubiquitous grid plans around him, he can denounce the physical and salsa dance with his own essence.

  • okay. so i had to search this guy after seeing him in waking life.

after watching this, i love him.

  • i keep listening to this and the more i listen to it the more i keep discovering new things :)

  • "I'd further would love it, on the cruise, if I could look at the flower, appreciate the beauty of the flower, and then have the flower appreciate the beauty of me."

One of the most poignant things I have EVER had the pleasure to hear.

  • "How much rebellion did I have to experience, how much fighting did I do. How many times did I have to ignore my father's inability to emote, how we all ignore our father's inability to emote in our presence. [...] I mean how much daily fighting, infighting, strategizing, evading and running did I have to do for the ability to feel. For the ability to emote. For the simple moment when I feel actual passion."

  • I hate the grid plan!

  • What a beautiful man.

  • Thank you.

I have the same (lack of) haircut (along with size, etc).. I'm glad I don't speak through my nose like he do, but he's infact more experienced or smarter or deeper or more poetic or all of the above, than me, which I greatly respect; there are not many.

  • come the weekend god dammit i'm gonna appreciate the beauty of the flower haha

  • awesome. just don't get why they need to shoot this at landmarks ... it makes it cheesy ... I'd rather see dude in some unknown alleyway where there's unknown beauties ...

  • There are no alleyways in Manhattan and everything is a landmark.

  • Comment removed

  • Genius. Beautiful. Pure love. This man is sadly so sadly misunderstood. Please people. T

  • "To be able to exhibit, that I am thrilled to alive, and to be stilled respected."

    That is the cruise.

  • passion is not to know, not to be aware!

  • That's your opinion of the cruise.

  • He's commenting on the conditioning of our minds, the frailty of the human experience, and what inspires the human soul at its core (which is, to say- exuberance through nature and reality).

Speed is on to something, and we can all learn something from dude.

  • 0:39

    ignore what??

  • a "point" would mean that there is an answer, that there was a plan, meaning that there was a definitive construction of what IS and WILL BE and i believe he, so eloquently in fact, is simply asking questions and refusing to accept that there is a "point" to any of this.. or that requiring a point is a prerequisite for the pointless. if your mode of emotion right now is to listen as if only to speak, then you are not being spoken through, as in wanting to BE THE FLOWER, not the flower wanting u

  • yo kryl88

what exactly is the enticing philosophical point that he's making throughout the movie?

  • Not the movie, as I've not seen it, but taken from these select clips I'd have to say that Levitch is a firm believer in existentialism, and as such he really pushes people to actually go out from their computers and experience -life-. He makes a point, in my view, that people should go and embrace their passions and creativity, that they should create and display their work to the world and that a life lived sincerely with passion and married in the embrace of one's creativity is a proper life.

  • Also, I could just be an idiot, but hey, what I said about existentialism and Levitch's ideas on it is what I take from these clips.

  • i have no idea what he's talking about..

  • He's probably just slightly demented or outside of the realm of what we would call sanity from the way he anthropomorphises flowers and the like, but he still makes an extremely enticing philosophical point with what he says throughout the whole thing.

  • i hate walking in straight lines 2! lol....

  • Wow, I just went through almost this whole clip without realizing it was in black and white. If that isn't a good example of deep reflective thought, what is?

  • It could simultaneously be a good example of you being incredibly unobservant.

  • True. haha

  • Comment removed

  • "i think having an intimate "love affair" with a flower is far more psychotic and riveting than having a "love affair" with some of the banal creatures of the human race... although i'd be into that too!" gotta love him!

  • AMAZING

  • pretty provocative.. he had a hell of a monologue in waking life man. Oh my god that was a great part. "I like to go salsa dancing with my confusion" is the quote i use everywhere.

  • nice one on uploading this great mind to youtube!

  • I first saw this guy in Waking Life

    He struck me as amazing

I love this and have The Cruise on my NETFLIX Queue, CAN NOT WAIT

    thanks TIM

  • does it matter?

  • I wouldn't have asked if it was not

  • no he's not. if you watch "the cruise" he says that the main reason why he does his job is to meet women.

  • What's the "cruise"???

  • Its intentionally left ambiguous throughout the film. I suggest you make what you want about it

  • good question

    The way I see it:

    He begins explaining "the cruise"

at 1:30 and kinda ends at 3:20 here.

However "the cruise" is the theme

of Speed's life story as well.

  • This shit is too fuckin complicated for me, I feel soo inferior lol!

  • wow, quite powerful stuff

  • so nonchalantly poetic : o

  • Does Tim have any history of mild autism? I'm not mocking...just truly curious. He seems to see the world in the a unique way.

  • i doubt it, he's far too social a person

  • doesn't particularly mean anything. i have asperger's syndrome myself, and i'm a fairly social person. many of his mannerisms do suggest that he may have some form of high-functioning autism

  • Russia Just NUKE us NOW PLEEAASSE, We do need a new Beginning, Too may R-Tards in this said world of ours LMFAO Seriously tho =)

  • when's Stroker and Hoop gettin renewed?? its obviously gonna come bacc.. "Die Stroker & Jermaine!!"

  • Cool guy

  • i love the way he talks

  • The ongoing WOW is happening right now..we are the authors of ourselves, co-authoring a Dostoyevski novel starring clowns..

  • haha waking life all the way. it introduced me to a lot of new ways of thinking.

  • That was interesting.

  • what's "cruising"??

  • Living, not just surviving.

  • Every time I watch Stroker and Hoop, I watch these videos to remind me that Speed Levitch isn't completely insane.

  • when's Stroker and Hoop gettin renewed?? its obviously gonna come bacc.. "Die Stroker & Jermaine!!"

  • I didn't realize how much I missed Speed Levitch. Thank you sir.

  • if you're into the grid plan thing, get into will self's psychogeography

  • Hoop!

  • the NY city grid plan IS "a self portrait of the city's own personal struggles", yet it IS also and more directly the struggle of "some real estate broker's wet dream form 1807" i think you and speed would both agree, but just because art has a point, doesn't mean you have to treat it like an opinion, in order for you to keep an identity that doesn't contradict other identity's... do you do real estate jacintho10?

  • the weird thing is, he is obviously very clever and it kinda makes me feel a bit thick.....but if you recognise all that he is saying, has he just thought about things too much and what will it gain him and then if i recognise all he is saying what will i gain from it if anything? this comment is not meant to start an argument but someone disscuss it

  • he got understanding, you may get understanding of your own. live inside your brain and at the same time outside it to? lol philosophy
