Ok here is an explanation for how trigger can make you faster. It is not about speed but with the power of the strike. you can speed up but it won't be heard anymore. Triggers on the other hand helps your strikes to be heard and eliminates the problem of keeping the same kick power while speeding up. Without triggers nobody will hear your "great" bass drums in a gig.

Hellhammer is better. He plays approximativly ~242bpms, Hellhammer 250 max. But with a trig, it's not very very hard, that's not tiring ^^. Dave Lombardo plays 230 max, but without trig. This guy is good, but with a trig, that's not very hard

Kollias slams out some 270bpm on the Nile record which is quite impressive. On the new Dimmu Borgir record, Hellhammer manages somewhere around 290 on 'The Chosen Legacy'. Whether this 290 is legit powerful single strokes is yet to be seen.

Also, Kollias has a rule about playing with power. He has stated himself that he thinks tapping is cheating (there's a vid of it floating around here somewhere) so it's not like he just taps the heads. He plays with some serious beater distance.

Ok he is fucking crazy fast. but being really really fast with a double pedal doesn't make you a good drummer. id like to se that guy play a Dave weckl song or like a fucking jazz song. I am really impressed by his skills with a double pedal but if he had put half as much time practising on becoming a good drummer as he spends becoming really fast with a double pedal he'd been a fucking great drummer. instead hes just fast.

I think that's what he meant. The dynamic is very consistent, and the sound is somewhat always the same. It definately sounds as though he is using triggers.
