  • So are you saying if you just use buttermilk you dont have to put lemon in there? And do you taste the lemon?

  • @Cheer2000Allstar If you use buttermilk, you do not need the lemon juice. If you use the lemon juice with regular milk, you will not taste lemon.

    --Betty :)

  • do you have t use thave to use that t ype of flour

  • I made these doughnuts tonight, OH-MY-GOD. The best doughnuts I've ever tasted in my life!! Thanks so much for the recipe Betty!

However I would suggest you let the lemon and milk sit for around 5 mins to let the chemical reaction take place.

  • @rahrahcool Thanks for the great feedback and wonderful tip!

    --Betty :)

  • how can we store leftover uncooked dough?

  • @rahrahcool Just cover it and refrigerate it. You can use it for a few days.

    --Betty :)

  • @craftsfurever Use regular sugar.

    --Betty :)

  • And plz no spices insted of cin

  • @craftsfurever Just leave the spice out--it will still be good tossed in powdered sugar.

    --Betty :)

  • Cn u use no cin in the dough and use regular oil then peanut oil last ?

  • @craftsfurever Yes, omit the cinnamon, and use regular oil. That will be fine!

    --Betty :)

  • Sorry ment to say something else i typed it wrong:(

  • @craftsfurever NP

    --Bettty :)

  • Do you have other things to make or coat the dounut i cant hav cin cuz im allergic and the glazeo dont like or frosting can i coat it with plain sugar or sume thing else

    --Betty :)

  • I assume water can replace milks for those who don't like milks?

  • @stan04 Yes, you may use water.

    --Betty :)

  • Hello Betty and friends! I just wanted to tell everyone that I tried these donuts and they are SUPER! nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Also the cinnamon finish is just right. My family loved these! I would also like to note that I had used an all- purpose flour that seemed to be very finely milled, and I used approx. 1/2 more flour than was suggested because the dough was a little too sticky at first. But these turned out just wonderful! :) Thanks again

  • @karlalana Sorry folks, I meant to say I used 1/2 cup more flour..

  • @karlalana Got it!

    --Betty :)

  • @karlalana Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • If you don't have a thermometer, how can you tell the oil is hot enough to drop the dough in?I'd like to make these for my daughter's birthday weekend in a few days, have everything but the thermometer....

  • @badbabe667 When you have heated the oil until it seems pretty hot, put just a bit of the doughnut mix into the oil. If it immediately bubbles and sizzles, the oil is ready. If it just sink, the oil needs to be hotter. (Be sure not to let the oil get hot enough to smoke.)

    --Betty :)

  • If I were to make an actual circle doughnut, how long would I have to keep the dough in the oil? Would it be roughly the same amount of time?

  • @SpankRamen2 I would say it would be the same amount of time; you will be able to tell by looking when they're done.

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty. Can I make donuts with this dough? Would I roll it out prior to resting or after? Thanks for your video. Peter

  • @MrShrimpy72 Hi Peter! Yes you can make cake-style doughnuts with this recipe. Roll the dough out after it has rested. Cut it into doughnut shapes and continue with the recipe.

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty. Can I make donuts with this dough? Would I roll it out prior to resting or after? Thanks for your video. Peter

  • Oh, that was a delicious recipe.

  • @KBAFourthtime Thanks so much!

    --Betty :)

  • 7:36 What type of thermometer is that?

  • @KBAFourthtime It is for deep-frying or for candy.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Then it must be a candy thermometer.

  • I'm making this for my brother because he LOVES doughnut holes and was wondering if just plain milk would do instead of the buttermilk?

  • @chiuchiutrain92 These should do fine with regular milk, since there is quite a bit of baking powder to insure that they rise properly.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen I just made it! My whole family gobbled them up so fast (and I made 36 of them), I used powdered sugar instead of the cinnamon sugar mix just because I'm not too fond of cinnamon :]

Thank you so much for all your time and recipes! My mom is always amazed at the dishes I make with your recipes!

  • @chiuchiutrain92 Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty! I made this the very day you put up this video and everyone loved it! It would be great if you could take a look at my version at geosceaft.blogspot.com thanks for the great recipe!

  • Hey Betty! I love all your recipes, you are just AMAZING! I had a quick question: I don't have all-purpose flour but I do have self-rising flour. So what should I do?

  • @texasgirl519 The self-rising flour will be great! You may leave out the baking powder and salt and keep the rest of the recipe the same!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thanks Betty! I made the dough last night but it was kind of sticky and softer than I expected. I'm not sure what went wrong, any ideas?

  • @texasgirl519 It should be pretty hard to stir. I would add more flour.

    --Betty :)

  • I'm definitely wanting to try this, though I have a question. Would these fair well, if they were filled with a pudding, cream or jelly filling or are these strictly for outside flavoring only?

  • @Dark0Malkavian You could fill them with a small amount of pudding, cream, or jelly, but you would have to make sure the dough totally encloses the filling (which would probably be hard to do). I would make the (larger) ball first, and then make an opening to insert the filling and close the opening after it is filled. It would taste wonderful.

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty, could you freeze part of the dough and use later?

  • @jmaprins Yes, no problem--just thaw it and continue as before.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty you're awsome :)

  • @sparklescuzishine Thanks for your sweet thought.

    --Betty :)

  • Betty...can I use canola oil rather than peanut oil?

Thanks for posting all these awesome videos!!

  • @angelatheangel2 Yes, canola oil will work fine!

    --Betty :)

  • oh my...they look so good !! Thank you Betty for another great recipe !

  • @admireme899 You are very welcome! I appreciate your great comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty-Can I make the dough a few days ahead to actually frying the donuts do you think?

  • @frecklefacesue Yes, the dough can sit in the refrigerator (covered) for a couple of days.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thanks for responding!! I'm making these for a volunteer "thank-you" tea at my school. Can't wait to see how they turn out

  • They look so good, would they still be good with plain milk?

  • @apachebutterfly Yes, they do have baking powder, so the buttermilk is not essential.

    --Betty :)

  • Such a great recipe and so simple! I confess that I 'cheat' by buying a tube of buttermilk biscuits, poking a hole in the center of each with a straw, then deep fry them in oil for instant donuts. ( I got the idea from Paula Deen) But your donut holes look good too!

  • @ccwhit55 That sounds great!

    --Betty :)

  • i had a guy ive been interested in being with, i mad3e him this donuts and he finally asked me to be his girlfriend lol thanks betty!!

  • @stephany1800 That's great!

    --Betty :)

    --Betty :)

  • @KEetsy134 Thanks for commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • Look yum!

Can you use vegetable oil instead of peanut oil as I am allergic to peanuts?

    -3

  • @KEetsy134 Yes, vegetable oil is fine!

    --Betty :)

  • thanks for the recipe , but do you have recipes for baking doughnuts not fried

  • @umkoki I don't have a recipe for baking doughnuts; I haven't seen one of those.

    --Betty :)

  • That looks very good:)

  • @Punchdrunk86 Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • i can eat them all lol

  • @potyunbe Actually, they are very filling! Thanks for your nice comment!

    --Betty :)

  • If you wanted to make chocolate donut holes what would you have to change? or just add a chocolate mix?

  • @orckiller91 Just add chocolate to the mix. You may leave out the cinnamon. Also, roll them in confectioner's sugar or use a glaze (chocolate or vanilla) on them.

    --Betty :)

  • you never disappoint me with your videos! i love them <3

  • @cupcaaakeLOVE You are so sweet! Thank you!

    --Betty :)

  • I shouldn't watch your video's befor bed time you make me hungry ..lol... I love your recipes thanks for sharing :)

  • @whitecrow255 Thanks for your sweet comment! I hope you like the doughnut holes!

    --Betty :)

  • oh wow, awesome!

  • @GregsKitchen Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • Ymmmmm.....luvin' these donut holes alot! Hmm....i notice this dough doesn't take any yeast, so would this dough be the one used in cake donuts? I definitely luv cake doughnuts, the yeast doughnuts are too fluffy, not as tasty,...well, according to me,...hehe....thumbs up to ya dear Betty and thankin' ya for another savory, MOUTHWATERIN' recipe!! =D

  • @qualqui Thanks for your lovely comment! I appreciate it! Yes, these are cake doughnuts.

    --Betty :)

  • is there an alternative to peanut oil? for people with a peanut allergy (:

  • @koolkat618 Yes, use any oil that you like to deep-fry with.

    --Betty :)

  • Looks lovely - I love anything with cinnamon!

  • @iLikeCookie88 Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • yummy :-)

  • @Duygubella Thanks for the nice comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Comment removed

  • the recipe looks great! but can you use self rising flour instead of adding the baking soda & powder & the all purpose flower??

  • @annastasiababy Yes, self-rising flour is great--just omit the baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

    --Betty :)

  • how long do you think these could be stored before having to be thrown out? thinking about making some at the same time immaking dinner..and then they would get eaten for breakfast tomorrow...

    Thanks Betty!

  • @HappyDayMom They will easily keep for a couple of days in the refrigerator--longer in the freezer.

    --Betty :)

  • Awesome recipe!

  • @christy406 Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • Can you put the rest of the dough in the freezer to fry up later ?

  • @kbya Yes, it freezes well.

    --Betty :)

  • Truly a winner here great doughnut holes, thank you for sharing Betty.

  • I've just made these! I bought some American cup measures a few weeks ago and I've finally managed to use them :) Mine didn't turn out like yours though. I had to use strong white bread flour instead of all purpose, I didn't have baking soda or peanut oil either so I just added more baking powder and used rapeseed oil instead.

They still turned out great! I am surprised that I managed to make them and they're nearly all gone thanks to my mum who hates cinnamon but loves these, weird right?! lol

  • @samgower Thanks for your wonderful feedback! I really do appreciate it! I'm so glad the doughnut holes came out well for you.

    --Betty :)

  • Can you maybe upload a video on how to glaze or ice the doughnuts please?

  • @110cottoncandy I have a glaze in bettyskitchen for fruit pies (apple turnovers) that would be perfect.

    --Betty :)

  • Goodness...love cinnamon doughnuts. Yummm

  • There's a very similar but simpler recipe that uses Pillbury biscuit dough instead of making your own :3 Maybe try doing a video on it since it's so simple and making the video wouldn't take very long :D

  • @xchamorrobrox That's how I make mine. My niece loves them because they tastes great and they're very quick to do. I Just tear a whole in the middle of the biscuit right before dropping it in the hot hot veg or safflower oil. Then heat up chocolate icing until thin, dip the top in it, give it a shake and dip into sprinkles. Takes about 10 mins if that. =~D Paula Deen taught me that!

  • lol I seriously wonder how much of you food you eat, since nothing goes to waste =]

  • Betty, first can I say that I LOVE your shirt. Also, these look delicious. My mom taught me to use like biscuit dough out of a can, but I will definitely try it this way and possibly share your recipe on my channel (and I will give you credit f0r it). Thanks Betty!

  • Wonderfully presented as always and they look fantastic.

  • @Supportahol Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • Yes, thanks Betty...I look forward to your videos..and I love your clothes...

  • thanks again Betty, it's a joy to watch you. I've been cooking/baking for over 50 years and my hubby loves cinn/sugar donut holes so I'm going to make this recipe and see what he thinks. thanks for sharing your God-given talents

  • These doughnut holes look delicious Betty, you are such an inspiration to myself and many others on here. I look forward to buying the ingredients for these and trying them out. Thanks for sharing another straight forward recipe with your friends....Richard ;-)

  • Looks so good! :D Yum! I can't find baking soda where I live, only baking powder. What should I do?

  • @imle0is0me Hi! In European supermarkets you can find baking soda under its chemical name: Natron. Baking powder actually contains natron and some acid to help it react when it gets in contact with the liquids of the dough. The baking soda on its own works in this recipe because there is buttermilk in the recipe which contains lactic acid. You'll be perfectly fine with baking powder.

  • Great little snack!!

  • Oh yum! When I was a kid we would use refrigerated biscuits to make donuts similar to this. We would kind of tear a hole in the middle, fry them up and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.

  • oh wow! homemade doughnuts! betty, u are my hero... lol =)

  • mmmmmm

  • love the memories that came flooding back to me - re: thanks to you!

in regards to having this kind of treat at rural summer fairs!

either a mini paper sack filled with six or twelve holes helped to satisfy the growls!

  • A friend turned me on to your videos..gonna try these donut holes! :))

  • Betty, iv been watching you now exactly for one year now, because i remember i started watching you on May bank holiday weekend last year here in Ireland.I try to make one of your recipes every month. This is again another stunner of your recipes.

ill be sure to make these, i'm out the door now to get Buttermilk :)

    thank you betty =)

  • Third!! I love you Betty

  • I think i might just have to try this recipe, thanks once again Betty !!! :)

  • i'm in love with this recipe!!!
