  • you need to re-submit this so the sound & video are actually in sync.

  • It seems too cruel to me to replace two words with one, especially when the second word is "of." I probably would have written that one as "leaning SLICE of Pisa."

  • REDO!

  • The Video is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of sync.

  • @MegastarLV tell me about it

  • Way out of sync.

  • This is excellent quality in this clip; so rare to have game show from the past to be restored like that!!!

  • Daphne from "Scooby-Doo"

  • lolz fail

  • I remember back when this was on one day in school the classroom seating assignments were being rearranged and each time I dodged the bullet (i.e. didn't get put next to someone I didn't want to sit next to) I said "Whew!" and then one girl said "Would you please stop whewing, you sound just like that game show!!"

  • Alright. CBS announced yesterday that As the World Turns is to be cancelled in September. They're looking at game shows to replace it. This is the greatest 30 minutes of awesome to ever be lost and forgotten. It's been due for a revival for more than a few years. We need to make a move and let them know about this treasure of a format and get it back on the air! Who else agrees?

  • @whammy850 I agree with you on that. Bring this one back.

  • Once again, the announcer is none other than the late Rod Roddy. Wow he did so many shows between 1980 and 1987.

  • If I were to revive it, I'd multiply all dollar amounts from the original by 10.

  • The quality of this is AMAZING!

  • Don't forget Beat the Clock '79!

  • This was a very short lived show it was on A 10:30 am just B4 TPIR where i lived. But it was shown on a Canadian TV station we used to get (Ch. 6 CJOH in kingston ONT.) at 3 pm. so if got home in time 4 school i could wach it. The show was only on 1979-1980 season. i loved it!!!

  • WOOOW what a game. Steven was really playing there & probably nerves just got to Tammy; I wonder how she won her first game. Steven's blocking strategy was very clear & it worked well in it's execution. Tammy seemed like she just gave up after the weird judging here; I agree with the judges here because under the circumstances of the bloppers they needed an exact phrasing. She got really lucky though with the longshot! unlike Pat Aiello. Good game but Steven my youtube friend you rocked.

  • or was that the 1st (and only????) round? I've never watched whew! on cbs before!! :)

  • there must have been some intricate editing here. did i just see *only* the 2nd round?

  • The previous round was played on the preceding show, this show picks up where the previous show left off because there wasn't enough time to finish the match during the previous show. Whew! was one of many shows that had its games straddled. To see the previous game, see the YouTube clip "Man rocks the Whew! gauntlet".

  • v=3MXpaTyRCkA is the first round

  • This is great. Of all the Main Game clips I've viewed, I've seen Villains 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and now thanks to recent submissions, 3, 8, and 10 holding up blocks. Just need Villains 5 and 9 and we got 'em all! So if anybody has Main Game clips with said blocks, you know what to do. Oh, and let's look for secret "Long Shot" block reveals, too.

  • Or better yet, ask GSN to bring this show back!

  • Yeah! The board would have monitors instead of trilons. Bloopers on Levels 1-5 would be worth $50, $100, $150, $200 and $250, while bloopers on Level 6 would be worth $1,000, $1,750 and $2,500. And the villains in the gauntlet would be animatronic mannequins instead of wooden cut-outs. Not sure who'd make a good host, though.

  • I thought he said GSN. You're talking about syndication.

  • Comment removed

  • I hope they put more episodes of "Whew" on YouTube. I use to love watching this show when I was young. Even my brother likes watching it as well.

  • I used to watch this too, as an 8-9 year old. If someone were able to post a celebrity episode I would fall over. And then get up and watch it.

Seeing John Saxon (who has played a villian himself many times over) battling against villians via either the blooper board or the Guantlet would REALLY be a stitch.

  • My thoughts:

Celebrity episodes pretty much seemed to be an act of desperation, which never worked.

That was lame that they wouldn't accept "Tower" in lieu of "Tower Of". Her mouth just hung open in disbelief, poor gal.

I would have a hard time on this show, keeping from laughing at the ridiculous mock answers.

Rod Roddy sounded MUCH different when he narrated "Soap". You just can't tell it's him.

I miss this show like crazy! Excellent quality clips!!!

  • "Leaning Tower Pisa" makes no sense, though.

  • TLEberle,

True, but that's still b.s. picky.

Tic Tac Dough was kinda unfair like that; they'd often nick you for not saying "The" in the title of a movie or show, or something.

  • No, it's not 'b.s. picky.' It's a wrong answer. there's a difference between an appended article and being grammatically correct.

  • I think it's close enough, but we'll just have to agree to disagree. No big. I really miss this show.

  • I can't say I miss it, since I think I was born after it was canned. But from what I've seen, it's an awesome format.

  • Correct.

    "Celebrity Whew!"? Tanked.

    "Celebrity Hot Potato"? Tanked.

    "Celebrity Bullseye"? Tanked.

Imagine how badly TPIR would have tanked if they had turned it into "Celebrity Price Is Right".

  • I've heard that they even made a pilot for "Celebrity Double Dare", based on the stunt show that was hosted by Marc Summers. It's posted somewhere on YouTube. See if you can find it.

  • Unfortunatly the celebrity week episodes is what did the show in!!!!!

  • Yeah, they extended celebrity week to over 6 months before the show tanked.

  • They could just bring it back without having the celebrities muddle it up. Also, an easier-to-pronounce title would be nice, for example: "This Statement Is False"

  • Er, what is so hard to pronounce about WHEW!? :p

  • Funny thing about this show was that Whew! host Tom Kennedy didn't really have to pronounce the show's title name. Jack Narz who was the announcer of The All-New Beat the Clock 1979-Feb. '80, (which aired before Whew! on CBS at the time) was forced to pronounce Whew's! title name during the closing credits of The All-New Beat the Clock '79 each and every episode.

  • Why didn't Jack ask his brother (Tom) how to pronounce it?

  • Yep, this show ("Whew"), "Bullseye," "Hot Potato," "Password" (1971-75 version), and "Millionaire" (ABC 1999-2002 version) went to all-celebrity formats and all off them bombed.

  • But Password did return to civilians, right?

  • They did, but the damage was already done by the time PW went back to the civvies and the change was too little, too late to save the show.

  • Interesting rewrite of history. If the shows weren't already in ratings trouble, they wouldn't have changed to celebrity versions to begin with. Although stars didn't help, they aren't the cause of the shows' failures.

  • In fact I didn't see anyone get through the Gauntlet of Villians until after they added celebs. And unlike the others, "Whew" did not make it all-celebrity. Instead, it they made in a sort of like "Pyramid"

  • First they added celebritys. After CBS gave them cancellation notice, they changed to a "pyramid" format.

  • Add the Weakest Link to this list. I have no idea what NBC was thinking. The Weakest Link needs to be revived.

  • To be fair, only 'Password' went to an ALL-celebrity format ("Password All-Stars') -- the other show you mentioned had stars and civilians.

And it doesn't take long to wreck a show using an 'all-star' format, PA-S went down in less than 6 mos. By the time they changed it back, it was too late.

  • Celebrity mole would be an exception, since all the networks today are run by crack heads.

  • But the difference is that "Celebrity Mole" was a SPECIAL EDITION of the regular show. They had "All-Star WEEKS" on Password Plus and Super Password -- for, that matter they STILL do it on Jeopardy!. But, that's not the same thing as changing to a permanent all-star format.

Nonetheless, I agree with you about the network heads. For example, who green lighted "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!" to run 3-5 nights a WEEK? (We won't talk about how it got green lighted AT ALL, it's depressing.)

  • That's not True!

There are tons of good, even great shows on networks today! The Networks are NOT run by crack heads! Just because you don't approve of a Celebrity show, for GOD's Sake!

  • Great clips!! Hope you have MORE on the way!!! GSN need to air that show!!!

  • Not gonna happen as long as Burt Sugarman keeps trying to charge an arm and a leg for the use of the show.
