I'm not concerned about the plants and creatures of this world, what I am concerned about is humanity.

The earth can regenerate itself even if species are lost to time. Inhumane killing of animals only proves how much one cares for the living. If one can torture and kill a creature without giving some thought to respect and understanding, then one can also do the same to another human being.

I give respect to the plants and creatures that I eat as to not take it for granted.

If meat is murder - so is lynching. Absolutely don't agree with you! I'm glad to say we still have the freedom to choose what we eat or don't. If you, as I did for 20 years, want to avoid eating meat & dairy, avoid using leather etc. that's fine by me. Give animals the best possible conditions to live in, avoid transports, kill them as painlessly as poss. and treat the end product with the respect it deserves. There's enough hatred in the world. J.O. is the wrong target.

You cant compare meat to lynching, humans have a certain degree of autonomy, they do something wrong, they deserve what they get in some circumstances but animals have been forced into the most horrific situation i could conceive of, they have done nothing wrong and lack the means to avoid the horrendous lifes they have to live. You misunderstand. You, who have free will, say farmers deserve to be hanged - THAT IS A CALL FOR LYNCH MOBS FOR FARMERS. I have friends who are farmers. They are good people. Their animals live outdoors and are well cared for. When the time comes, the animals are WALKED round the corner for slaughter. I see nothing exceptionally cruel in their lives. Most farms are different but this is how livestock farming should be IMHO. That is what J.O. is trying to make us think about.

Well im an idiot, im not sure why i called for all farmers to be hung, i think i was in a bit of a bad mood after watching a video called 'Meet your Meat' on here. Maybe that video has hazed my view slightly as to how animals are actualy treated in the UK today, im not sure

That's a very gracious posting. We should be very angry about the way most animals are treated and do our best to change it. Part of that needs to be through legislation but we should also support those that do free range/organic farming. The farmers I referred to are something of an exception, I know. I would prefer it if they were the norm so I support them. Thanks for the lively discussion!

I love jamie oliver and after watching this programme i couldnt believe how nasty they can treat poor pigs! it was soo horrible when the little piglets had their tails chopped off and all the other stuff without any anasthetic! i think its just wrong, if people saw this they should only be buying pork from britain! not the EU! especially not denmark either! (N) lets all help the pigs :)

The solution is quite simple. BAN EU pork until they change their ways. Then put tariffs on imports so that British farmers can compete. British farmers should ALWAYS come first. FUCK THE EU! :-)
