does anybody remember the days when there were cool bands like this and when they put an album out EVERY single track was a hit , like, the whole album didn't have a single bad song on it? oh for those days to return...
Always thought NGD was their last great album, still sounds great today.I remember Jim Kerr saying at the time that he listened to Diana Ross ,and not Joy Division as everyone presumed. This song certainly has a hint of Upside Down to it-shame JK became too obsessed with U2 and Bono after this.
dear lord, can't you guys get over yourself with all this about past music bla bla nowadays music bla bla. also there is nothing more annoying than those teenagers trying to feed their ego telling how young they are for the amazingly good taste in music they have..... bunch of assholes. can't people simple enjoy the music and leave the rest of the world alone?
@RomancerSweet sorry disagree. There isn't any modern music worth talking about. It all maunfactured sh1te so why not talk about music when it WAS great and you associated it with happy memories. Nothing wrong with that
Summer breeze and brilliant light......Oh,how much this reminds me of my beloved 80's when my generation was happy, young and free to do whatever we want, cheers from Macedonia!
I remember buying this 12" ...hated it straight away! (What the fuck is this?! ;-))
I love Simple Minds up to this point (still do).... astonishing band of that time. (I mean really cutting edge!)
I guess they decided to change their audience. I don't know what happened to them after this, but they certainly sold lots of records and became very famous!
If I may share a memory of, promises, promises, summer at 16, Disco.Summer music personified in Scottish way. I just can't get enough...all those promises were fufilled...so ohohohahahahahahahah.goanyerselfJimsaybabyKerr.
This song and Catwalk are my hands down faves by these guys. Great music you could dance to yet wasn't empty, unsatisfying "dance music". Ahhhh yeah, great stuff, great times! I'd just gone from 70s died in the wool rocker to devoted New Wave convert! A lot of pretty girls, a lot of great parties...being young rocked! Those nights'd probably kill my ass now! Thanks for sharing, peace out!
Yeah, but its not as good as N Dubz is it? - Nah, I'm only joking! In fact the world changes shape doesnt it! It's me who left my heart in my headphones in 1981, 82, 83, 84!
This was damn good song at the time it came out but it is wishful thinking and nostalgia to claim that insipid pop crap didn't exist back then or have we forgotten about Wham! already?
@bigreed43 - Yes, I remember Club Tropicana like I was listening to it yesterday. It was a likeable song but it doesn't take away from the fact that Wham was regarded in much the same light as Justin Bieber is today. Wham was the music that put me off pop music for life.
yes, back when music had emotion and feeling.
