  • There are other, better examples on You Tube of The Lyres in more optimum live performances. Regrettably, there are none earlier than the late 1980s.

The best live shows of the band were performed at such Boston venues as Cantone's, The Rat, and The Underground, and at Maxwell's in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Between 1979-84, The Lyres were at their absolute peak, Conolly a sight to behold, as a journalist once scribed, "with the face of an angel and a demeanor to disprove it."

  • Conolly is bloated and off-key here, a blond, later Vegas "Elvis sans white jumpsuit, but mit Vox.

  • So-so video of a bad live performance, from a garage band with a history of inconsistency in live venues, from the absolutely riveting and thrilling to a sloppy mess, all at the wont of their charismatic and infuriating front man, Jeff "Monoman" Conolly.

The Lyres, in their prime, were one of the most exciting and fun bands to hear & see (and by which to dance) in a music club, although their recordings were always even better than their live gigs.

  • Holy Crap!!

  • what year is that from ??

  • that drummer was crap

  • Great clip of a great band. Thanks.
