@tqb43 A lot of it is just zooming in, and then setting the f-stop as open as possible. That'll usually do the trick, if there's enough distance between your foreground subject and the background.
@tqb43 Not with the DVX or similar camera. You kind of need a 35mm Lense adapter for that OR a different camera, like a Digital SLR with a fast lense. I wouldn't worry too much about shallow DOF, though. If the content is there, people won't bemoan a crisp image.
@CircleofShit of course. I'm having a DVX100 AE and i'm ONLY working with Vegas and the upscaling works without any problems. You can either load your DV material into a SD timeline or a HD timeline and render a HD Videofile. All you need to do is selecting a HD profile for the destination video file-
@KRAFTWERK2K6 Hey man thanks for your comment. Can you explain how you render your SD videos into HD? I usually render using the Sony AVC and 25p Internet 16:9. Is that what you do?
@CircleofShit Yes, that's the way to go. I'm doing the same. Sometimes i even chose WMV but normaly i use AVC HD 720p profile. The framerate of your videofile should be the same like your soucematerial. Make sure the bitrate is not loo low since youtube is compressing the uploaded video again into Flashvideo with a very low bitrate.
@CircleofShit@CircleofShit usually at least 8 Mbits for uprezed SD Material (and mostly constant bitrate) since i don't use much jumpcuts or fast cameramovements. You shouldn't go further than 17 Mbits when exporting uprezed SD material since the videos would only get bigger and bigger without any further important quality benefit. At least not for simple web presentations. ;)
@CircleofShit The shutter speed changed as you can tell from the side-tracking shot of the fence. It started at 1/60, and for that shot (the fence) it was, I believe, at 1/1000.
please help me, i also have the dvx and im new to using it, can you do a tutprial on how u got your camera llooking like this, and also what sftware used to render and edit thanks!!
Thanks for sharing the technical information. Video looks great; frame rate, gamma curve and color depth win out over resolution when going for a film look, any day. I'm going to buy a camera (again) soon, and think I might go with this one.
Been all over youtube looking at test footage, and this looks the most film-like for sub-$5k units.
Yeah, it takes some finagling, but it's very possible to get quality "HD" footage from a standard definition camera. The DVX has given me a couple pleasant surprises along the way, and this was certainly one of them.
wow... i just got this camera a few weeks ago. and i am absolutely amazed with what you've done with it. i hope to achieve what you;ve done just with a "test"
again...nice music...and colours. just beautiful. even though its only a test. can't imagen what u do with a final project. plz let us see some more :)
I have the same video camera. Could you please tell me how you made this transfer full widescreen? it looks great. I mean what conversion method did you use?
If you look at the info for this video, I've included a link that'll tell you how to set up FCP to handle this stuff.
Basically, shoot it in 24p Advanced. Capture it using the 2:3:3:2 pull down, and make sure your sequence is set to edit in 23.98. Export it using an HD format, such as 720p, or, if you plan on going to YouTube, export using H.264, resized for 16:9 HD.
haha. Actually, I wrote it. It doesn't have a name yet, because - as you may have noticed - it isn't finished. But it seemed to go well with the visuals.
I don't know why 24p always looks more like a "professional" video than 30 but it really does. My brother-in-law switched to it when he upgraded to HD in his video business and he says its because big-screen movies are shot in it and your eye associates the quality of the image with that and 30 fps with camcorders.
Cool shots. It doesnt come up with the View in HD button but it was definately HQ and probably just too early for the HD since you recently uploaded. The focal changes were cool.

@machelli so theres not a good way to get shallow DOF in close quarters?

Hey machelli, what program did you use to upres from SD to HD?
DarwinMendioro 1 year ago
@DarwinMendioro We edit in Final Cut Pro. And we compressed it afterward with Apple's Compressor.

How did you shoot the first shot from 0:00 to 0:20 ? Very well done :)

@bigfrmrb I used a Glidecam. It's a cheap version of a steadicam. I picked it up waay back in High School for the short "the Lesson."

How did you make it focus on different things?
cenacrazed544 2 years ago
The dvx100b has a very sensitive DOF when the aperture is open...just like film. That's how I was able to be "selective" in what I focused on.
