  • how did you get such good quality and depth of field?

  • @tqb43 A lot of it is just zooming in, and then setting the f-stop as open as possible. That'll usually do the trick, if there's enough distance between your foreground subject and the background.

  • @machelli so theres not a good way to get shallow DOF in close quarters?

  • @tqb43 Not with the DVX or similar camera. You kind of need a 35mm Lense adapter for that OR a different camera, like a Digital SLR with a fast lense. I wouldn't worry too much about shallow DOF, though. If the content is there, people won't bemoan a crisp image.

  • PANASONIC DVX100 4 SALE - 750 OBO COMES WITH EVERYTHING NEEDED MINT CONDITION MESSAGE ME

  • i thought this was the RED one camera at first i rented that camera and fell in love with the thing

  • @bugsbunny159 Nope...just a regular, ol', standard definition Panasonic DVX. Glad you're enjoying the RED, though!

  • @machelli if you ever get your hands on a RED you will want to buy one... im going to upload a video soon from it :)

  • Also what shutter speed was this shot with?

  • @CircleofShit This was shot with a shutter angle of 1/60th.

  • Hey dude is it possible to uprezz the DVX100b on Sony Vegas to this standard?

  • @CircleofShit of course. I'm having a DVX100 AE and i'm ONLY working with Vegas and the upscaling works without any problems. You can either load your DV material into a SD timeline or a HD timeline and render a HD Videofile. All you need to do is selecting a HD profile for the destination video file-

  • @KRAFTWERK2K6 Hey man thanks for your comment. Can you explain how you render your SD videos into HD? I usually render using the Sony AVC and 25p Internet 16:9. Is that what you do?

  • @CircleofShit Yes, that's the way to go. I'm doing the same. Sometimes i even chose WMV but normaly i use AVC HD 720p profile. The framerate of your videofile should be the same like your soucematerial. Make sure the bitrate is not loo low since youtube is compressing the uploaded video again into Flashvideo with a very low bitrate.

  • @KRAFTWERK2K6 What do you have your bitrate as?

  • Comment removed

  • @CircleofShit @CircleofShit usually at least 8 Mbits for uprezed SD Material (and mostly constant bitrate) since i don't use much jumpcuts or fast cameramovements. You shouldn't go further than 17 Mbits when exporting uprezed SD material since the videos would only get bigger and bigger without any further important quality benefit. At least not for simple web presentations. ;)

  • @CircleofShit The shutter speed changed as you can tell from the side-tracking shot of the fence. It started at 1/60, and for that shot (the fence) it was, I believe, at 1/1000.

  • @machelli Cool. That was quite cool tat it was a good picture at 1/1000 shutter speed, usually its quite dark!

  • this is not the "squeeze" mode right??

  • @nuclearbroom4649 Actually, it was shot in "Squeeze" mode; why?

  • @machelli i thought squeeze shot would ruin the image quality... idk im still learning

  • How do I achieve this HD look with my PAL DVX100b on Sony Vegas Pro 9?

  • Hey machelli, what program did you use to upres from SD to HD?

  • @DarwinMendioro We edit in Final Cut Pro. And we compressed it afterward with Apple's Compressor.

  • How did you shoot the first shot from 0:00 to 0:20 ? Very well done :)

  • @bigfrmrb I used a Glidecam. It's a cheap version of a steadicam. I picked it up waay back in High School for the short "the Lesson."

  • Hey, this is really good!

  • This video is better than your comedy videos.

  • diggin the edit..whats the song?

  • please help me, i also have the dvx and im new to using it, can you do a tutprial on how u got your camera llooking like this, and also what sftware used to render and edit thanks!!

  • @backyardjibsessions visit the link in the info section for this video.

I shot in 24p Advanced mode, and captured it in final Cut using those settings.

  • Any color correcting? im stunned by the amazing video qaulity.

  • @skateemerica134 no color correcting...just boosted the contrast a wee smidge in some of the shots.

  • what format settings did u use to upload?

  • can you achieve this look using the XL2?

  • fucking gorgeous.

  • Looks great

  • Well, thanks! We thought so too.

  • Nice work!

i love the music, well done pal

  • mmm. HD

  • Thanks for sharing the technical information. Video looks great; frame rate, gamma curve and color depth win out over resolution when going for a film look, any day. I'm going to buy a camera (again) soon, and think I might go with this one.

Been all over youtube looking at test footage, and this looks the most film-like for sub-$5k units.

  • Yeah, it takes some finagling, but it's very possible to get quality "HD" footage from a standard definition camera. The DVX has given me a couple pleasant surprises along the way, and this was certainly one of them.

  • wow... i just got this camera a few weeks ago. and i am absolutely amazed with what you've done with it. i hope to achieve what you;ve done just with a "test"

  • Beautifully shot and uploaded. You do a lot of justice for this camera unlike some people on youtube.

  • again...nice music...and colours. just beautiful. even though its only a test. can't imagen what u do with a final project. plz let us see some more :)

  • Oh, you guys will see more than you care to see once Ben and I finish all the scripts for our webisodes

  • did you shoot using the squeeze mode or letterbox in camera?

  • This was done in squeeze mode. Any particular concern?

  • I have the same video camera. Could you please tell me how you made this transfer full widescreen? it looks great. I mean what conversion method did you use?

  • If you look at the info for this video, I've included a link that'll tell you how to set up FCP to handle this stuff.

Basically, shoot it in 24p Advanced. Capture it using the 2:3:3:2 pull down, and make sure your sequence is set to edit in 23.98. Export it using an HD format, such as 720p, or, if you plan on going to YouTube, export using H.264, resized for 16:9 HD.

  • How did you make it focus on different things?

  • The dvx100b has a very sensitive DOF when the aperture is open...just like film. That's how I was able to be "selective" in what I focused on.

  • like the music. sounds very 'explosions in the sky'.

  • I like the music, what is it?

  • haha. Actually, I wrote it. It doesn't have a name yet, because - as you may have noticed - it isn't finished. But it seemed to go well with the visuals.

  • It really does. Will you post the finished version on youtube for the masses to oogle? =D

  • wow. That makes the world look beautiful...

  • The AG-DVX 100b is amazing, I own it myself. And this camera is a great starter camera if your really serious for filming.

  • Nice fluid motion, not jerky, crisp.

    Nice camera work Matthew. :)

  • Niice

  • well the music is nice and the video picture is crystal clear!

  • cool smooth transicions. a bit slow on the darker tones..but kinds of make it looks so darn cool...but b-lieve me the musik helps a lot!!!

  • This is pretty damn sweet, mate.

  • Oh shit that was delicious. I uprez'd one of my DVX videos to HD and it doesn't look this good I think I should try again.

  • Make sure you read the info on this video...that should help you a little.

  • looks great

  • I don't know why 24p always looks more like a "professional" video than 30 but it really does. My brother-in-law switched to it when he upgraded to HD in his video business and he says its because big-screen movies are shot in it and your eye associates the quality of the image with that and 30 fps with camcorders.

  • the SD is nice quality

  • I can see it in HD and it isn't even laggy like it usually is for me.

  • That's great! Good to know it's working for viewers.

  • Cool shots. It doesnt come up with the View in HD button but it was definately HQ and probably just too early for the HD since you recently uploaded. The focal changes were cool.
