  • I have this game on Atari 2600 :D

  • Asteroids is one of the first shooters

  • I'm now developing asteroid game my self :D I came here just to exam how ship physics work... But you didn't move most the time lol.

    Nice review thought...

  • WTF? Why don't you move at all? :D

  • I notice that you can shoot faster in this version of asteroids and the sound is different. Yars Revenge aint worth the lint between my toes.

  • @john17972 Actually... the Arcade version is faster. This version does look faster than versions I've seen ported to other consoles though. The Original Pew-Pew Game :)

  • this game takes me back

  • PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew!

  • When he said it came on a game cartridge with yars revenge and pong i thought it sounded familiar so i opened up my glasses case full of GBA games and oh crap there it was.

  • FUNFACT=gay.

  • dont spose anyone knows. in late 80's in a fairground there was an arcade game. the style was a bit like a futuristic g-lock. had a 'firefox' style plane (not the browser) and flew through real landscapes. the main thing was every time you blew something up, it had footage of a real explosion. it was amazing :)

  • 0:21 Is that Asteroids in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

  • LOL - I ALMOST went to hit the start play button.....LOL...cant believe I did that!

  • wtf GBA?!?!?!?!?!

This could have been done on the original gameboy WTF

  • SHUT THE FUKK UP AND PLAY!

  • Awesome game!

  • quit smoking, buy pong, yar's revenge and astroids for GBA.

  • 0:23 - ASS

    Awesome, Mark. :D

  • I agree with you on the camera thing. GBA cartridge is hours more fun than a camera.

  • lol, CGR probably only played the game once to review it, then never touched it again...

  • I love the soundtrack of the game. :3

  • i dont

  • WTH! i had this game for 5 years now and never knew you could teleport! are you serious!?!?!? what button???

  • They should make a sequel to Asteroids and call it Hemarrhoids.

    You'd play as a tube of pile-cream.

  • i got the tree game thing from the bargain bin today, i youtubed it and it came up with this

  • good thing I have the gameboy advance

  • My dad was only 9 years old when this game came out :D.

  • lol, ass score huh?

  • i like your style and love your comments and analogies! camera in pancakes lol

  • aah i like your analogies and jokes lmfao

  • thats funny shit. keep it up

  • i have it too found it in the same sec of target too u frgot about the select butten during the game

  • Yeah, having no BC is bullshit, but i might just buy a dsi just to download the three Shantae games i just read about in the new NP mag. Damn, i'm so psyched!

  • is astroids one of the first video games?, i mean is it like the frst one?

  • no its computer space, it sucked they made it into pong

  • I'd rather have backwards compatibility over a pointless camera anyday. Oh well, at least I still have my SP.

  • FUNFACT: Asteroids racked up so much sales in the arcades that they had to put in a bigger coin box in the machines.

  • @crazyzach5 no you are thinking of pong

  • @crazyzach5 FUNFACT: Pong became so succesful that when the arcade machine filled up with coins it stopped working

  • He wrote ASS!

  • going to the bar and ordering water. lol

  • But a pancake camera would be awesome.

  • @rewindfrog I can see it now.....CAM-CAKES!

  • Haha. "The gift that when shot breaks into smaller gifts..."

  • wow. thats a helpful comment.

  • u may wish to move

  • I have never heard you say you don't like a game except for pac man on the atari 2600. Spice it up man.

  • yea, the DSi cant play gba games, but it doesnt bother me because i always have my gameboy micro with me.

  • i have asteroids on my phone:D i used to play in the arcade way back but cant seem to run across a machine anymore...sad D,:

  • The arcades have died out in America my friend.

  • i kno but we can still hope that they will bring them back i meen mame is cool but just not the same.

  • Five.

    Five dolla.

    Five dolla Ass-teroooiiiiiiids!

    At RockWay!

  • I remember queing up to play on this in the arcades.Pockets full of change.I just love the sounds in this game,so distinctive.

  • I like how the thrusters on the the space ship come on when you move the space ship around.

  • This is NOT arcade asteroids!! Look at the pixlization of the ship, asteroids, everything. This sucks! You can only play this game on a real vector machine like the arcade or Vectrex...

  • Hey I love Asteroids and I order water at the bar :)

  • why did they have to kill Game Boy off, they should have just called it Game Boy DS

  • The original DS had a diet and turned into the DS lite that couldn't get much smaller so they did lipo suction then the fat mutated and turned into the Gameboy micro

  • whats that music in the begging with the cheering

  • i remember this, i played it when i was REAL young

  • im 14 and im going to go play astroids

  • i agree this camera thing is getting old and too late people dont care about cameras we all already have them let alone Nintendo feels the need to put two cameras in the ds it was much better with a gba dont get me wrong i realize Nintendo is trying to get past gba these days i accept that but the cameras just are not needed let alone two not that im knockin g the dsi i love the idea of the bigger screens but i think ill stick with my old black and red ds lite

  • He connects all his consoles to his huge AV rack. Thats why you don't see the DS screen. It's a direct line to the video recorder. Watch some of his earlier vids, you will see his AV rack which I envy LOL.

  • never played is what i meant of course

  • played asteroids...nah, thats impossible

  • man i miss playing that... that alone will make me get another DS since my last one got crushed.. I think i played it on the atari 2600 or something like that... when i was 6-7...

  • I like my GBA SP and Micro. The micro is amazing cause its not bigger than an ipod and you can get flash things for your music and play your gba games.

  • If you like this, you should look into the Retro Atari game for the DS

  • Not playing asteroids is like drinking water at a bar when you aren't the designated driver...

  • i have bot played any game conlse but ps2 and xbox

  • i have not played ASTEROIDS haver

  • I remember "borrowing" change from my parents to get my Asteroids fix, great review as always!

  • they are adding old school games to the DSi shop channel soon

  • where can i find out about that?

  • google it or think wii released NES-N64

and others so maybe the DSi will to

  • i was pretty sure they were going to do that or maybe release gameboy and gameboy color games like "links awakening" and the first pokemon games.... i just never heard anything official.

  • the DSi camara is laughable

  • at best

  • why list these games as DS, just because of the backwards compatibility, its like labelling every ps1 game PS1/PS2/PS3 and so on

  • cause there are more DS around than GBA these days, so chances are you're going to play it on the DS.

  • asteroids is one of those games everyone should play at least once in there life.

  • the dsi you can down load games like this i bought pong :D

  • ehh, a little too primitive for me, i prefer it when the ship is able to move around. 1979 sure, 2009...not so much

  • You're able to move around in this this arcade version >_>

  • i don't mean pointing in different directions :o

  • You can move and transport yourself to a random spot.(masteriansun )

  • What if Meteors were heading your way and were going to crash into you? If you played this awesome game you would have practice in dodging and shooting them but you didn't, so you die.

  • umm, then i would use my awesome dodging skills i learned from max payne and f.e.a.r.

  • the camera in toiletpaper is just a matter of time

  • and then we will see shit

  • I have an exellent version of Asteroids on my cell phone.

  • i love asteroids, but river raid is my thing.

  • Am I the only one who prefers the A2600 version to the vector-graphics arcade version?

And a camera in pancakes? Mmm... crunchy...

  • Bah, Asteroids has always been boring to me. It is one of the arcade games that I would play if it was the only one to play lol.

  • its inpossible somebody never playing asteroids its so cool game

  • I know my target had a few of those.. I'll stop by and see if I can get one at the $5 mark.

I know I've played asteroids and a lot of asteroid clones on the pc in the 90s when windowed desktop games were trendy.

  • You should review Atari Classics Evolved on the PSP. It has the best version of Astroids.

  • I like Astroids a little bit

  • "And who doesn't like Asteroids, come on!?"

    ~half raises his hand~

  • I don't like asteroids.Sorry.

  • god I haven't played asteroids since i had an atari st

  • Meh... I just got a nintendo dsi... But my PSP is modded so I got a GBA emulater and a ps1 emualter on it. So it's all good.

  • i need a camera in my pancaces >:(

  • U guys are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • there are soooo many options to play gba games on i really dont think we needed another one if you cant fork out the 20 bucks to buy a gba on ebay you have chose the wrong path in life as for the camera im sure they will come up with something more creative to do with it other then warp your pics this is nintendo after all give them some credit

  • Agreed! Why does everything have a camera? You cant even get a mobile phone these days without a camera, i mean come on! And now the handheld systems?! Serioysly!

  • The DSI doesn't have the GBA slot, it has an SD card slot, but one of these days it may be possible to download old Gameboy and GBA games to the DSI. Are you using the GameBoy Player for the GameCube to record the video footage? You're not recording the DS screen with a camera, the video footage is far too clear for that.

  • He's actually recording the DS screen with a camera, Lachlant1984.

  • OK, but I find that hard to believe as I don't see the DS during the video, nor do I see light reflecting off the screens.

  • In some videos you can actually see the camera's reflecting. Not here though. Guess he found a way to completely stabilize the recording process.

  • He IS recording the screen directly with the camera. If you've seen the video, he does show off some of his equipment and the general idea of what he does pretty much every day, to make these reviews. He has great equipment. Mark loves and cares for us, that's why.

  • Yeah, I don't get why they're sticking a camera in the DS either. I'd rather have the GBA games ability. Mind you, this probably means when this new DS comes out, the ones that play GBA games will be a helluva lot cheaper :D

  • yo mark, do you run the InecomCompany channel on youtube? or are you part of an actual company?

  • I see that ASS guy who always gets hi-scores on every machine I played got 2nd on yours. Man, he gets around.

  • thats me. Alexander Smith Stewart

  • I see. Well allow me to say to you, Mr. Stewart, that you are an excellent video gamer. Almost as good as that POO character. You wouldn't happen to know him too, would you?

  • I might be a bit biased because I like the GBA a lot more than the DS but why? Why would you take that option out?

  • Great choices. i actually just purchased everyday shooter. That game is Hard! but its really cool too with the visuals and music rhythm.

  • I always found Asteroids mediocre. Now Bosconian, that is an awesome game.

  • You are becoming quite the master of filling time.

  • That's disappointing that the dsi gets rid of gba capabilities for a camera. I only want one because of the online store and the memory potential as a previous person posted.

  • 4:25

Ouch... Did you shake your fist?

  • Just played it on a site. Too nerve wracking like Pac-man

  • i got the dsi because of the potential in the sd memory card slot not because of the camera

  • I loved this game back in the day. Black & White vector graphics still look great. It really is so fitting for a game set in space.

  • Comment removed

  • lol its been done.

  • those already exist.

  • yo every time i go on my computa my cat comes down an i move ha and off da desk ands she gets annoyed she cant watch clasic game room

  • I agree, the DSI is such a disappointment, why would you take out the GBA slot? I'll stick to my DSLite and GBA.

  • Damn, i always check for marks new posts, and like every the views are in the 300s. grrr u ppl are fast

  • actually he does have a couple of PSP reviews. im not sure if he even has any more games for it though....time will tell. he's actually kinda picky about games but so am i

  • he has done 1. and the psp kicks the ds ass!

  • in my opinion, yes i agree with you. but it seems like mark favors the DS. which is ok, thats why we have the choice. some will like the DS more than the PSP. so be it i guess..haha

  • he just got the psp not that long ago gotta give him some time to grab some games

  • oh, the gameboy advanced slot was replaced not with a camera but with a SD-memory card slot. the system already has built in memory that can take something like 1000 or 3000 pictures. you can have music on the SD card too but why use that when you can have an ipod. i'm prity pissed about the lake of GBadvanced game play on the system as well.

  • the dsi itself is a waste of time. it is pretty much the illigitimate bastard child of the psp and iphone. not at all necessary

  • cool

  • Awesome.

  • For me it didn't matter if DSi had a GBA slot or not cause i already have all except for Game Boy, Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player, if i need to play GB or GBC games i just play them on my GBA SP every GBA game on my Micro and transfer or add on games like Guitar Hero On Tour and Pokemon Pearl on my DS lite and every DS game on my DSi plus SD card slot is more then about putting Photo's it can put your songs to plus DSiware and hopefully DS Virtual Console already are worthy to get a DSi.

  • That was a mouthful. Also, it was only in one sentence! You get a cookie! :3

  • The problem with not moving is you can't play very agresive. I like to chase the big ones when you get close you can let out a big volly of lots of shots and that'll help you take down the chunks with out acidentaly hitting another rock. Also your be less likely to get turned over by the small suacer.

Learn to thrust gentaly. Tap the button instead of holding it. The game will be so much easier.

  • There is an updated version of asteroids for the Iphone. I have not played this game yet. I have it for PC with other great arcade games on one disc.

  • One of the best classics.. Old school.. Back in the day, this WAS one of the best games. I had it on the 2600 (in color), and played until the rubber boot/cover came off the joystick. I later used that on my first girlfriend :D

    Good times lolz

  • He's right about the camera thing. the companies are straying away from what the consoles are meant for: PLAYING GAMES!

  • The asteroids don't spin like in the original?

  • Wait, wait, wait...they took out reverse compatibility for a very popular system with loads of great games...and put a camera there instead? That is such an amazingly backwards-brained move that I cannot comprehend what the designers were thinking. People are stupid, eh?

  • thats nintendo for ya.... not all bad, i'll stick with my ds lol

  • but you know what they also did? some ds games will be dsi excusives, which means that big titles might only be playable on the dsi... so you allmost have to sell your old ds to get a dsi =/

  • They should have had Battlezone instead of Pong as the third game. Round it out nicely. ;) (or maybe Missile Command)

  • most of the time he likes the games he reviews and i really enjoy that. I don't know why,but it really is a relief to see him reviewing games and showing his personal opinion, rather than being a critic and hating on every game that isn't made by big companies like rockstar, bungie etc.

  • well i didnt say that he shud hate on them.... btw i dont like most of the new games that are made by big companies and i think we shud be alot more critick to them...

  • That really is too bad they removed the GBA slot. At first I though it was in part due to the SD card slot replacing the GBA one, but that located on the side...

First they remove GB/GBC compatibility form the Micro and DS, and now this! (which was rediculous in the first place as the hardware is still there -the GBA games need it- it's just missing the switch in the cart slot... (and the propper shape to fit in the slot)

  • The DSi will incukde downloadable classic games too :)

  • you got better score than ASS!!! Gratz :D

  • lol, "ASS"? I think seeing that on a scoreboard has more of a nostalgic feel than Asteroids itself XD

On a side note, the DSi meets my needs since I'm behind on those rather novel technologies. My cell phone is old enough such that the camera is almost as bad as the GameBoy Color Camera. And my digital camera is also old and cheap enough to be on that same level. So the DSi's camera is a much needed upgrade. Furthermore, I need a portable music player. I lack that too.

  • Aha. Sounds like a classic.

  • i know!

  • Man, we have cameras all the time. Why? Do we need another camera? Who does not have a camera on them anymore? Even if we forget a camera, we still have something with a built-in camera. So, why the fuck do we need on ein the DSi?!? I'd rather play my Mario vs. Donkey Kong GBA game than take a fucking picture of something that I already just took a picture of on my phone, actual camera, and any other fucking portable thing I have on me.

  • mmm............... PANCAKES!!

  • I agree with you on the DSI Camera thing
