dont be hatin on him, its a good video and if your gonna talk shit dont be watching the video dumb shit.. thanks alot it helped me very much. im gonna do it to my 2000 gmc sierra.
I would DEFINITELY sand!! paint is not going to grab on smooth surfaces!!! this is why you can wipe mostly paint off glass and non porous metals, SAND!!
hey i painted my tail lights with spraypaint and made some lines on it. but i want to change it up and smoked them out... will they still look good if i sand them down and take the paint off then smoke them out?
THE WHITE FILM IS FROM SANDING. U HAVE TO USE THE MAQUIRES ULTIMATE COMPOUND , NOT JUST PLAIN RUBBING COMPOUND. I HOPE U SANDED WITH 1500 OR 2000 GRIT WET SAND PAPER
I followed this video, but when it came to the final step i cant get my lights to look glassy. they have a white film on them and the scratches from sanding them appear very clearly. How do i get the glassy look?
Thanks for the vid, I'm gonna use this for a project I'm workin on, you really spelled everything out, idk how someone could screw up. I might cite this video in my blog if you don't mind.
Great video. I did this with a pair of tail lights but after my clear coat I got white speckles. Do you know if that would be a sanding problem or maybe bad clear coat?
@Nosnibor Maybe just not a clean surface or dust in the air. I did mine last night, got a few specks of dust. I didn't worry. They all sanded out with 1000grit, and they hand buffed used Turtle Wax: Premium Rubbing Compound, followed by Plastx by Meguiars. I did end up setting a lot of orange peel on the surface, probably due to the warm temperature in my garage.
@teagardenm After the problem came back after sanding real hard and reapplying the clear with a different clear coat brand I don't know what to do. I still got some white and it doesn't go away with sanding.
@Nosnibor is it within the headlight itself? Maybe you have some wax or something built up on the lens. I am not sure what it could be. Just make sure when you spray that you have a clean surface. Other than that I don't know what could cause it. Use alcohol or Naphtha to clean the surface. (I found Naphtha works best are removing oil and wax, and leaves no minerals behind, never heard of it until I ask a professional painter)
@burtonair114 Any thing acrylic should be fine. Just as shown. I was lucky to find a can of Krylon in my flammable cabinet. It said it was "non-yellowing" which I would look for. Just get a good name brand paint.
@CivicSportInjected If you sand with a 2000 grit and apply the nite-shade, grab yourself some good rubbing compound or plastx when you get the nite-shade. What you do is sand off the nite-shade then and buff the lens after sanding with the 2000 grit. This is the same process as "restoring your headlights." will look facorty or better. I have sanded and buffed many cars with amazing effects.
@CivicSportInjected I stayed up last night and did my taillights. I just wanted a tint, not black-out like others (and this video), for the fact that I like them to still be slightly red. I did one coat with the VHT and they came out great with a few coats of clear. Its almost like a cherry color, I like em. After working on sanding them out last night I realize It'll be a lot of work to get them back to original but it is very possible. Good luck!
@Miguelkenia6910 VHT and clear coat you can get at most checker auto parts depending on where you live I bought mine at checker for 11.99 or so also with the clear coat sand paper and compound cost around $32
Hey Thanks for the video I did 3 coats on my 07 Duramax And Taped the Reverse lights and it came out perfect. I put a little to thick of coats on my 3rd Brake light and the paint cracked by the 3rd coat but i spent some time sanding it back to orginal once it dried and it came out good the second time. Great video thou looks alot better than those cheap plastic covers.
hey if we want to still use out reverse light how would we do this and still black out the tailights? would we just have to tape over the reverse lights?
ONE COAT MAKES IT LOOK SLIGHTLY DARKER, TWO COATS MAKES IT DARK BUT DEPENDING ON THE LIGHT YOU CAN STILL SEE THROUGH IT AND THREE COATS BLACKS IT OUT BUT STILL ALLOWS THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO BE SEEN EASILY BUT WILL BLOCK OUT UR REVERSE LIGHTS ENOUGH SO THAT IT WONT PRODUCE ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE WHERE UR GOIN.
WHEN DOIN EYE BROWS U WANT TO 100% BLOCK OUT LIGHT WHICH THE PAINT WILL DO. NITE SHADES (3 COATS) WILL BLOCK THE LIGHT OUTPUT SO U WONT BE ABLE TO PRODUCE ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE ON THE ROAD BUT U CAN SEE IT WHEN LOOKING AT THE TAIL LIGHT. THE MORE COATS U USE THE LESS LIGHT IT WILL PRODUCE
@johnsn10 why did you use the krylon for plastic on the eye brows but not on your headlights.? are they different surfaces.? and can you really not see your backup lights when you tint the reverse lights.? I have a 99 BMW 328i E46, will it completly mask mine aswell.?

I took my truck to my friends body shop they used the same prosses but different . they spraid it with a paint gun just like a real car pain job.
