The gameplay is incredibly different, the challenge is different, there are completely different levels, some levels are removed, the ability to play as Maria, the gore levels are different, the music isn't as good as this version, and the game is lacking cutscenes.

Yeah, Itshard to tell just by looking at a short video, but if you played this, then snes, you just fell.. This sucks! Several snes games that look good are like that. A lot of games my friends used to have on snes, and I had amiga versions. Amiga rocked. Ahhh.

I tried mednafen and magic engine, but I heard you have to play from a CD for it to work.

Well I also need to add ths game to my collection, besides the PSP version I need as well. Try google info on the PSP version I think that if you beat it, then you can play the original but I don't remember if its this awesome version (this game) or the bland snes version, and ofcourse depends if you have a PSP. In the meantime I'm going to do some research myself, there has got to be a way to play this without owning the PCengine, I'll keep you posted if I do find something.

I don't own a PSP unfortunately. There is a Windows version floating around but I was turned off by the low quality audio included with it. The SNES version is almost completely different (I've played this one already, most people dislike it because it's not an exact port, the levels were redesigned).

Yeah I know, the only good thing out of the SNES version was that Ricther's theme BloodLines sounded better and faster paced yet it was just horrible in terms of comparing it with Rondo X. I'm going to check some Japanese sites in search of it, I didn't know of the Windows version but I too am quite "iffy" when it comes to audio quality being a Castlevania music lover and just want the best sound and effects when playing this excellent game.

Actually, I think this Windows version is just a "port" made using Magic Engine and the ROM.

Call me crazy but I looking into replaying every Castlevania game yet in chronological order (even the 3d ones for N64/PS2), and being that this game is a pivitol point in the timeline (Castlevania 3, Curse of Darkness, SOTN and Rondo X are tightly knit to each other), its important I play the best version I can get.

PC Engine (version) wins in the graphics and effects dept but the SNES version always won in the music department. -This debate goes the same with the PC/Saturn version Man X3 compared to the SNES version. Simplicity goes a long way.

snes version is not the same... youre better off getting the pcengine cd rip and using mednafen or similar emulator. otherwise youll get the watered down version of the game.

This game uses about 160 megabits (20 megabytes) without the redbook soundtrack.

The soundtrack needs to be compressed for the VC.

I actually have this game, and for those who haven't ever played it, it's definitely one of the top 3 Castlevania games ever made. The soundtrack rocks, the animation and gameplay are top notch, and it has good replay value (many ways to do each stage, secret areas, etc). A must play for any Castlevania fan.
