What would happen if a leftist brought guns to a protest of a right-wing president's policies?
My guess is, some right wing pundit would have posted a video just like this wondering what a left wing pundit would have done if right-wing protester showed up with fire arms at an event such as this one.
My point is simply that the right-wing shuts you up and shuts you out if you disagree, whereas the left-wing is tolerant to the point of allowing assault rifles into a protest crowd.
Which is more dangerous? I suppose that's debatable but we might find out soon enough...
Never have I said that I agree with Obama's ability to endlessly extend Bush-era policies.
Main-stream media is a joke, and as such bringing up its' ability to 'report' news is a joke.
I'm all for protesting, but the Constitution says that we have a right to peaceably assemble. Bringing guns DRAMATICALLY changes things. I'm not against the 2nd Amendment, but if you're going to Peaceably assemble then leave you're guns home. That goes for the Right as well as the Left (remember that Black Panthers often brought guns to protests as well)
Well done Gil. Thanks for bringing this one up. We often forget. I strongly suspect had the Smoke Town Six showed packing heat at the Bush venue they would have been branded terrorists then mowed down and riddled with bullets from the Secret Service.
anti-bush protesters could even have a freakin' shirt. But remember they were called 'un-American' for not supporting Bush or his war. Now the democrats are doing the same thing, labeling their opposition as 'un-American'. The more things change.....The more they stay the same.
Okay, the ones being labeled "unamerican" are the ones who are shouting and drowning out debate. You know, those who are going against the 1st amendment. Then there are the idiots who lie about the bill, same people as the first group.
Then there are the people with the guns.
There is no comparison between the people wearing shirts and the people with fucking guns. But I shouldn't expect much from a Fark Independent*.
Oh please, it is no fucking different. The Anti-war protest were nothing but shouting matches as well. Leave it for someone like you to say those who use their 1st amendment rights are supposedly are the ones suppressing it. Give me a break. Granted, they are a bunch of fuck-nuts but that does not change the fact that calling someone 'un-American' is absolutely stupid. If this administration has to mirror the last in its tactics, it has to make you wonder what he is any good at all.
No, fuck you for you willful ignorance and trying to change the fucking subject. So right-wing fuck-nuts carry fucking guns. Who fucking cares? Those who do not support the current bill are not suppressing anybodies right to free speech, the town hall meeting IS EXACTLY FOR THEM! So a democrat can't sell the current bill, boo hoo, cry me a river.
/sarcasm
You know what? I change my mind. It is 'un-American' to disagree with our dictator...errr I mean... president.
Town hall meetings are for "debates" not "shouting matches". You are right, it is for them, but your missing out on the point of the meetings. They are set up to further things along, in either passing or denying a bill, and when it becomes a shouting match as you so support, nothing gets furthered, everything, in fact, comes to a stand still.
Need I remind you not all of them are shouting matches. But that is effectively ignored by all news organization except Fox. If Fox news has to show that you are being biased, what the fuck does that say about you? Especially since they are king of being biased.
"You support getting nothing done?"
Fuck you and your high horse you rode in on for even suggesting that. It never ends to amaze me no matter how emphatic I agree that reform is need, I am still label for the status quo.
Your labelled by what you say, and you mentioned support for the shouting matches. You never mentioned how they werent all like that and i never said they were. You also assume i watch fox news, which i dont. I usually stay away from any and all tv news channels unless its for weather reports in my area.
I dont think calling them unamerican is right but i dont think what they are doing is right for america either. You can disagree with something all you want its your right, but when you hinder progression, especially with something like this, its wrong. Again i say your labelled by what you say, because you are, for the most part, closer to their side.
"but when you hinder progression, especially with something like this, its wrong"
You honestly think the law is going to change because of something that happens in town hall meetings? No, it nothing but a game to get every to accept what is coming down the line. It isn't about "debate" or "progress" at all. So don't blame them if nothing gets done. You forget who makes the laws. If we cannot count for congress to do what is right, then they are of no use to us.
And Again, where did I say I am for the status quo? So, CLEARLY you are not labeling me by what I say but merely because I oppose the bill and nothing more. It is just easier for you strawman what I say than to actually deal with it. I want reform, but this bill is a step in the WRONG direction. It is neither a reform for a capitalistic system nor a Universal Health care. At least commit to one or the other.
I remember how people were labeled as unpatriotic if they didn't back President Bush. The either you're with us or against us mentality. Can anyone say double standard?
Apparently it isn't legal. Yes, Arizona state law dictates that open carry is legal. But federal law doesn't, and when the president of the United States enters Arizona, the law becomes overwritten to be federal.
I also love how they complain about their rights being taken away as they practice an extreme version of the 2nd Amendment (As if there are only 2 amendments in total).
I have to respect Obama for not playing the persecution card with these kinds of crazies and just go on with his life.

A box of worms has been opened. You can be sure that liberals will bring guns to Republican presidential town halls.
Stupidity begets stupidity.

When Bush was president, if you disagreed with him and his policies and showed up with signs and t-shirts, you were harassed and/or arrested!
Now that Obama is president, the right wing is bringing loaded guns to a FORUM. And nothing happens to them? WTH?

This argument shows the clear difference between tactics of the right-wing and the left-wing.
The right-wing shuts you down, and shuts you up.
The left-wing allows you to express your rights, but is drowned out by the bullshit.

Yeah, great argument you've got there.

Bush was criticized and protested non stop for years and the media loved it.
Granted he had it coming but Obama is not only keeping Bush's policies in place but he's spending 4X as much and nothing is any better.
Cindy Sheehan protested Bush and the media covered it wall to wall... Cindy Sheehan protests Obama recently and we hear crickets on the topic.
ACLU, Fairness Doctrine, FCC, etc represent which side of the isle?
Watch your Olbermann or whatever but dont pretend youre informed.

Reverse the roles here, what would have happened a few years ago if this was a left-winger protesting against Bush? Yeh, I already know the answer.
Bush's policy would have been to arrest the people with the guns and infringe on their 2nd amendment rights.
While I think it's scary to have people with guns in protest crowds, it is their right.
The double standard is very clear between the last administration and this one. However, both are pretty terrible at policy.
