she SO wants him!! haha, the way she is biting her lip all the time, touches him a few times through the song, the way she looks at him, and how she smiles and raises her eyebrows when he sings the line 'she tied him to her kitchen chair' yeah, she wants to tie him to her kitchen chair, lolol. not saying that i wouldnt, cause i totally would ;P
Every now and then I poke my head over hear for a bit of a listen. Periodically I read the comments after I've been uplifted and amazed. Every time I look I'm bought back down to earth by the whiny posts about Geraldine Quinn. Can all of you whiners get a grip and enjoy the experience. Someone managed to capture a beautiful moment on camera: revel in it.
Not many things make me cry.....except anything that involves bee's....but this, lets just say my 3 year old cousin looks like a hard-ass compared to me after I watched this.
Dudes what are you talking about?! Chick sucks? She has a great voice, and she sings it very well! Both of them are, and i think this is a great duet!
beautiful is the best way I know how to describe this one, nothing better than a pub setting with patrons, fans and friends surrounding you and oh yea a good pint of ale helps to set the stage even better. way to go guys, you should do more together
To me, this song doesn't sound right with a woman's voice. I think it only sounds good if a guy sings it. In this case it wasn't great because the both of them were just having a little fun and yea, they probably were a little drunk.
It's just like there are songs that should only be sung by women.
I'll repeat the fact that I'm NOT sexist, although I won't defend myself any further with you. If it doesn't sound good, it doesn't sound good...
@rock1rock2rock Are you a regular chick? or one of those running across the Country every year, going to Auditions for "talent"-shows, gettin' rejected every time and STILL going to be returning the following year? "well there obviously must have been a mistake, how could they possibly think I suck??" just stick to beeing a Legend in your own mind, at least you seem to be great at that.
*Yes that is a sexist comment, wheather or not she sang it well or whatever
u just Generalised that all womencan't sing that song Properly. Yes she might or ruined this song but thats exactly the point SHE as in geraldine quinn might of ruined this songnot all women
tim was purely angelic in his melancholy tones....his facial expressions added a level of brilliance....she needed to shut the hell up....i get you have a voice but what song was she singing, she excluded any macabre emotion from her singing....
I loved how Tim did this, it was magical. Then she started singing, and it seemed like she wanted to show off her voice calethenics than actualy get into the song. Kinda broke the mood. (yes you're an awesone singer, but you actualy have to feel the song, not preform an octave any chance you get.)
This is NOT sexist comment: Women should not sing this song.
When guys sing a meaningful song like this, they mostly don't go all over the place with their voices - in this case, Tim was having fun, so fair play to him.
But woman ruin these kinda songs by insisting they have to "add" to the song with stupidly holding a work for longer and then going all over the place with the pitch.
In my eyes, it ruins the feel of the song. And doesn't sound like it was MEANT to sound.
@Sophix0mp Yes that is a sexist comment, wheather or not she sang it well or whatever
u just Generalised that all womencan't sing that song Properly. Yes she might or ruined this song but thats exactly the point SHE as in geraldine quinn might of ruined this song all women.
I think the reason the comment sounds sexist is 1.) you said "[women] have to "add" to the song." Guys do too, I'm sure. 2.) you said "when guys sing ... this, they mostly don't." By generalizing like that, yeah, that's sexist.
I think the reason it sounds good to u w/only a guy singing is bc it was originally sung by a guy, and the song is nostalgic. The memories and feelings that u and many others have w/classics like this blind u 2 other artistic possibilities.
@Sophix0mp But I want to say that I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Either you like it or you don't; your feelings can't be wrong, I don't think. I do think it's wrong to prescribe a sex into a singing style, though. Regardless of what trends you've noticed, saying that someone will do something a certain way based on their sex is the definition of sexism, barring biological differences, of course. There's no way around that.
I don't think Geraldine Quinn has much of a perception for this song. It's meant to be heartfelt and then a lift. She just shouts it throughout. I would have liked to hear Tim Minchin on his own with this one.
It is so depressing... i sooo so so much want to go and see this guy live but i live in the middle of nowhere and my parents and friends don't exactly share my obsession for tim so thats me stuffed:'( mas
2of2 2. Yes I would love to here just Tim sing this song... BIG BIG fan, On the other hand I would love to here Geraldine Quinn sing this song as well, she put a spin on her part that was so incredible, she made it sound like the blues, her voice was so full of soul just amazing! More than anything would love to have Geraldine and Tim record this song and release it!!! Oh and yes Tim singing gave me chills and week at the knees!!!
1of2 This is to all the people who did not listen to this clip very well. 1. To quote Tim " this is a song written by Lenard Cohen, ripped off by Jeff Buckley"... (sarcastically stated)( laughter in back ground... ) "who drowned prematurely cuz he's a wanker" Listen again people, it sounds to me that he liked the man
I treasure every harmony, lyric, emotion, and awkward moment of this video. Words cannot describe how immaculate this version of Hallelujah is. Best one. By far. No doubts.
Tim Minchin IS a music God. But Gerry Quinn is the revelation here. Just such a powerful voice - so much so that Tim has to (very amusingly) cheat to compte at one point. And so much stage charisma. AND the sex appeal - though I suspect that is a side effect of her having a raging clit-boner for Tim...
this is one of the most amazing versions of this song i have ever heard! i am a die hard tim fan, but i have to say i disagree with all the haters for geraldine quinn, i think she has an amazing voice! it's quite an unusual tone, she has a great range and both their styles compliment each other so well in this piece. plus you can see how passionate they both are about the music (esp when they grab each other at the end lol), so i think they're an amazing duet, hope to see more of them together!
Listen to the guitar intro, it sounds a lot like a song I once heard. Up to like 00:21. Could anybody tell me what it is, i've been wracking my brain for ages and cannot figure it out.
just great, one of the best performances of any song i've everer heard. i dicovered tim recently and the more i see the more i like and apreciate what he does
also he's kinda hot in a mad hatter tim burtonish way
I had the privilege of seeing Tim do this song solo during an encore at his June 2011 Portland, Oregon show. If you ever, ever, ever have the opportunity to see Tim live, do. He's phenomenal, and he will leave you with goosebumps with his mere presence.
@ANDREW007CZ : She's singing a second voice. And I think it's awesome. He's really well performing the first one so she took on the second one and so their performances are incomparable. You can only tell it works together in pretty awesome way.
No one touches this world 'cause of god. He could sing anything and it would have the same impact. This song is only made more special 'cause he's atheist. =)
Too bad there isn't a studio version of this duet. Of all the great covers and takes on this song.... these two take it. And thats coming from a Buckley fan.
@XxBtsyxX It's Rufus Wainright in the soundtrack but the actual version in the film is John Cale. You can tell if you watch that scene and then listen to both versions.
I saw Tim live in DC a few weeks ago, and this song was his second encore, and it was amazing. And as he said, he likes making an audience of 95% atheists finish the night by singing Hallelujah.
I love this performance, but I don't know what's up with all those people commenting on how awesome it is for an atheist to sing such an amazing version of this song. Did anyone ever claim this was a religious song in any way?
@daretodreamdaretofly I thought I'd already replied to your comment, but I guess I didn't get around to it and then forgot... I noticed the biblical references, as they seemed pretty obvious to me. But in my opinion, religious references alone don't make this a religious song. I guess it depends on your definition of "religious". I'm sorry if my previous comment came across as sounding arrogant or anything like that.
I think the fact that both of them are pissed out of their heads makes this performance so much better since they both appear to be really enjoying it
Tim Minchin awesome as always but whats up with this other chick....I hate it when ppl with really powerful voices sing covers because it never sounds like the actual song. If it wasnt for Tim I would of been like wtf....
@hypeer12 the point of a cover is to make it seem like your own, rather than creating a carbon copy of the original. The reason I (and many others) like this version of this track so much is because they made it sound so unique.
It's kinda funny how the second most "thumbed up" comment is about playing Tim Minchin's songs in heaven... when he's an atheist who dislikes anything to do with religion or God... I can TOTALLY see God playing 10 foot C**k and a few hundred Virgins day and night >.<
The best version of this was when he played in Chicago on the 18th of June, 2011. No joke. It was the second encore, and it had the entire venue quiet and listening intently. He poured so much more emotion into it. I'll admit a couple tears cos he knocked it out of the park!!
FINALLY someone gets it right about John Cale!

Too bad there isn't a studio version of this duet. Of all the great covers and takes on this song.... these two take it. And thats coming from a Buckley fan.

Shiver down my spine. I'll never have too many listens to this song, in whatever version.
Tim he seems to have it all going for him -- musicality, voice, humor, and a sharp wit. Awesome to hear him do this one.

@gtp77 I wasn't talking about the original. I was talking about the version in Shrek.

I love the way this song has so many ways to be sung and be able to convey a range of emotions.
But this version by Tim is by far my favourite
Cocotte123321 5 months ago
uh it was rufus wainright
XxBtsyxX 5 months ago
@XxBtsyxX It's Rufus Wainright in the soundtrack but the actual version in the film is John Cale. You can tell if you watch that scene and then listen to both versions.

I saw Tim live in DC a few weeks ago, and this song was his second encore, and it was amazing. And as he said, he likes making an audience of 95% atheists finish the night by singing Hallelujah.

@Colbhi I was there too. He is absolutely fantastic!!!

I love this performance, but I don't know what's up with all those people commenting on how awesome it is for an atheist to sing such an amazing version of this song. Did anyone ever claim this was a religious song in any way?
AnnaParva 6 months ago
@AnnaParva its a little obvious, if you look up the lyrics, you'll see that there are a lot of biblical references
daretodreamdaretofly 6 months ago 3
@daretodreamdaretofly I thought I'd already replied to your comment, but I guess I didn't get around to it and then forgot... I noticed the biblical references, as they seemed pretty obvious to me. But in my opinion, religious references alone don't make this a religious song. I guess it depends on your definition of "religious". I'm sorry if my previous comment came across as sounding arrogant or anything like that.
Let's just all enjoy the music. ;)

I think the fact that both of them are pissed out of their heads makes this performance so much better since they both appear to be really enjoying it

Tim Minchin awesome as always but whats up with this other chick....I hate it when ppl with really powerful voices sing covers because it never sounds like the actual song. If it wasnt for Tim I would of been like wtf....
hypeer12 6 months ago
