what do you guys think, is this good for a beginner? i mean i am a great pianist, and i know a good amount of things about making music using DAW's (ive used reason and fl studio) but i am completely new to hardware. how is this compared to say a good midi keyboard, an apc 40 and sampler like the mpc 5000/ maschine? and what are the different components of a music production studio? i know the following: synth, sampler, drum machine, sequencer, effects, mixer, midi keyboard & DAW.
@nokia3210fuck that's a great tool if u want your music to have that 70s retro vibe. youtube a music producer name Benny Blanco. He uses that type of vintage equipment for his productions. that's I'm what I'm doing as well for my work. I'm using outdated equipment.
@neojunhao Just get the Kronos from Korg. Has layering functions and can even assign sounds to keys. Much better sound quality and much more versatile and professional instrument.
I like reading viewers' comments, but it's hard for me to take seriously the opinions of people who can barely spell, much less form legible sentences. It's not cute and it wastes everyone's time, especially when we have to decipher the majority of the post like foreign language specialists or detectives.
@Tempo2010 Thank you, Grammar Nazi. In the future, try adding an apostrophe in the word "isnt". Also, "grammar" isn't spelled with an "e". Furthermore, a comma should have been placed after "grammar", followed by a period after the word "buddy" (which probably should have been capitalized). The word "try" should have been capitalized since you were forming a new sentence, with a period placed at the end of the sentence. If I were you, I wouldn't correct others' grammar; work on your own.
Hey @AnalogX1 good job on showing @Tempo2010 how to use proper Grammar and Punctuation. Tempo2010 is one of those kids who probably never picks up a pen and tries to write something on his own. That's what happens when everything at school is computer based or multiple choices where no one gets to practice to write things on their own.
@alphasxsignal Almost nothing, The only thing is that a XF is made for music production and a Tyros is made for live performance(i have a tyros 2 check my vids) Hope it helped you

what an annoying key again.... cmon yamaha *rolleyes* it's always the same...
Guys theres no need to buy the new one, the old is even as good as this one.
With some tricks u can easily avoid the memory problems... but ok nvm.
To control cutoff reso and attack ...etc. und rly dont need to pay such an expensive one. Ever thought about playing with: PC/Notebook/Mac + interface + keys?
The key advantage of a software based setup is you can start small, with a simple PC, keyboard controller, and with easily affordable freeware (see kvraudio.com) and grow your collection over time.
Option 3 - Workstations, and Digital Pianos/Organs are really for professional performing musicians who cannot afford to carry around heavy instruments like the keyboard giants (Hammond B3's, Rhodes and acoustic pianos). You lose a very small amount of ultimate sound quality but gain portability.
Option 2, software instruments is probably the most cost effective, and as technology changes, probably protects your previous investments the most. However you will need to sift from the large number of substandard products that are published and constantly have to update software with patches, upgrades, and manage occasional incompatibilities, from the mix of products from disparate manufacturers. Unless you have invested in expensive products such as Muse Receptor, you lose portability.
Of course to create a sound or a piece of music you could combine the various 3 approaches.
Option 1,. high end instruments, acoustic or electronic is the most expensive, but yields the highest quality of expression and authenticity and of course requires the highest investment, and takes a lifetime to achieve. - Think Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Greg Phillanganes
3. A workstation such as a Motif or Fantom or Triton Extreme or the new Korg M3 or Korg Kronos. whose main advantages over the PC are the excellent support for automatically generated sequences/autoaccompaniment. i.e Instant gratification if that's what floats your boat.
2. A top end software instrument - e.g products from Spectrasonics, or similar producers who never compromise on the quality (i.e no duff sounds). Unfortunately to build up a good collection of instruments, you will need to choose carefully from more than one supplier, as Spectrasonics alone may not have all the instrument sounds you need.
As someone who has searched for a long while for an excellent keyboard, I conclude there are three choices.
1. An expensive acoustic or electro acoustic - rhodes, and expensive microphones and expensive recording environment and the chops (keyboard skills), which need natural talent, musical exposure, and a good teacher.
Just tested the motif xf in the music store. Nice WS...however it seems quit cheap & anoying only to be able to buy "FW16E FIREWIRE EXPANSION IEEE1394 S-400 (393Mbit/s)" which is slower than USB2 (480 Mbit/s). Imagen that every Apple LapTop is now days supplyied with Firewire S-800. Is S-400(the stone age) enough? Do we need S-800?
I would say No & Yes..fuk'n..yes. Yamaha customers need a new Firewire Expansion supporting S-800 in motif xf. Simple as that!
@prei94 The video is on the Motif XF What the hell does it matter if its the 6, 7, or 8. Its all the same in regards to sound. And further more, if you can't tell just by looking at it than what do you care.
@epgloreus Typically the sounds aren't backward compatible. XS files (particularly the ALL file type) can be loaded into an XF with relatively few corrections for waveform/filter/effects differences.
@freekninjinc I use a wx5 myself, checked it with VL70m and the VL-board on Motif ES. I loved the "modern" sounds...but a realistic sax? hm, not really, but of course better ;)
@marekarnold Seems odd they didnt just incorporate the plg boards into the xs/xf.I understand if they didnt want the modular approach, but going backwards doesnt sense make haha!
great performance! And really great sounds (but still terrible saxes ) - can`t wait for my XF6 end of this week... :-) anyone in need of a one year old XS6? ;)
you have the sweetest feeling on the keyboard ..you are the best of all who made videos for motif xf...if you produce songs or music generally.. send me a link which i can hear your music.thank you
I really hate the Sound Saxs, Flutes, Brass, Guitars and Drum as well. Personally I think Yamaha save the best sound for their own Real Products. Beside the Electronic Keyboard, they also sell Drum, Brass, Guitar..( I mean the real stuff).
@james2ue hey man thats the new survival trend .i just wish i had known roland was coming out with a v piano a year after the fantom g.these guys have to decide if they want to be oasis expensive and ignorant or not.these are computers and computers are relatively cheap. c mon big 3 its over!stick your heads in the techno guilletine. as far as programs go there is nothing on a keyboard[oasis -open labs], that can make a 2010 laptop yawn much less breathe hard.youre not fucking autodesk bitches
I've got a very basic question. Are there any differences in sounds (i.e. instrument banks, arpeggios, any anything else), between the 6, 7, and 8? Having the budget that I have, and with very little experience with a workstation as beautiful as this, I'm looking to get the 6.
