He lost everything once b4 (before) and at that current time he was weak. He didnt want to loose everything he held dear to him again, so he left to go to Orochimaru and gain power so that he could kill Itachi and make him feel all the pain that he felt as a child. He also wanted to become stronger

To protect Naruto and Sakura and everyone else he held dear. Later on he wants to kill Naruto and turns his back on Konoha because well, he has spent so much time with Orochimaru. But once he kills Itachi and Madara I think he's going to plead fo forgiveness towards NAruto (though its almost impossible for that to happen)! SO DIS!
