I live and travel all over USA and have never heard of either of those recipes. Im not saying they don't exist, just never saw that.  You wont see people putting mayonnaise on french fries around here either, but its popular in some civilized countries. I like both catchup and mayo! I remember when they tried changing the name from french fries to freedom fries. The lunch ladies at my middle school started calling them that and the lunch menu even read freedom fries of what you could buy for the day. I never called them that though it seemed over patriotic and a bit snobby like we were too good to call something by the name that's been used for years and years.

Yep, it's actually Belgium that is known for its fries. So they should be called Belgian fries... I've tasted fries in France and they're really not that good. But that's a matter of taste I guess :D

Belgium is bilingual. We're supposed to speak Dutch and French, but there's a French part (called Wallonia) and a Dutch part (called Flanders). I live in Flanders, so I was brought up speaking Dutch. But we all learn French from elementary school onwards.
